The Ol’ {2-2-1-1} Pattern Back n’ Forth

It’s the very nature of lotteries to have their Patterns take turns with one another. Otherwise, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak would never end! What happens when a Pattern plays, then disappears for a drawing, then shows up again? Other than missed opportunity for a Pattern three-peat, of course.

Mega Millions answered that question this past Friday night with its {2-2-1-1} Pattern. In addition to this Pattern’s back and forth action, there were no grand prize winners. As a result, the jackpot rose to $164 million.

Friday Night Substitution

When you hear “substitute” or “substitution”, what comes to mind? We’ve all had substitute teachers or had to make do with a different brand of peanut butter if the one we wanted was unavailable. A substitute isn’t inherently superior or inferior; it’s just something different.

If you played Mega Millions this past Friday (or not), then you should know that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak was terminated. In fact, you could say a repeating Four-Number Combination and the resulting madness was a substitute for whatever the Pattern five-peat would have brought. Regardless of your feelings towards repeating Four-Number Combinations in Mega Millions, it’s highly doubtful you’d turn your nose up at a jackpot that jumped to $145 million!

General Lottery Analysis

Will Tuesday night see a {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore or another repeating Four-Number Combination?

Twice as Strong, Half as High

Something odd happened the night of April 8, 2020. Thanks to an encore from the {3-2-1} Pattern and a little extra help from the similar spread, the Lotto Texas jackpot rose to $11 million. That’s more than half that of Powerball’s! No, that wasn’t a typo.

An intrepid player from New Jersey picked all six numbers and won the $193 million prize. Naturally, the jackpot reset itself. The floor of Powerball jackpots was once $40 million, but after this past Wednesday night, the new reset point became $20 million.

There Be No Fools

In times like these, we could all use a good laugh. Whether it’s sitcoms or jokes, cartoons or pranks, we’d go nuts if we never stopped to laugh at the absurdities of “real life”.

Lotto Texas and Powerball got in a laugh or two Wednesday night. Neither of them showered us with Pattern encores, but there was a repeating Combination of the Three or Four-Number kind somewhere. Even though the lotteries were taking it easy for the most part, they had enough energy to boost the jackpot to $10.5 million in Lotto Texas and $180 million in Powerball.

Lotteries on Bedrest

The crash was inevitable. After nights of going hog-wild, it was going to catch up to Lotto Texas and Powerball. They didn’t have the energy to party this past Wednesday night, or kick up a stink for that matter. Even though they rested, there was just enough energy for a similar spread and a repeating Three-Number Combination between them. Lotto Texas’s jackpot reached the $10 million mark and Powerball slept to $160 million.

Mega Millions ditched the {3-2-1} Pattern this past Tuesday night. A three-peat for such a Pattern would be more suited to Lotto Texas, anyway. Lotto Texas and Powerball Go Stir Crazy

As toilet paper remains in limited supply and people discover basic hygiene (Seriously, y’all. Wash your hands), Lotto Texas and Powerball are kicking back. They’re above such worries like soap and viruses, since they don’t get sick and all. Even if they can lord it over humans that they’re immune to every disease ever, there is one thing that not even a poised lottery like Lotto Texas is immune to: Going nuts.

Both lotteries thought “Throwing things to a wall and see what sticks” was a fun way to pass the time Wednesday night. Based on our analysis, a lot of things got stuck! During the cleanup process, a couple of jackpot hikes were salvaged. Lotto Texas climbed to $9.5 million while Powerball struck gold at $140 million.

Powerball didn’t see the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern three-peat, although it was close to embracing a playback. A jackpot increasing to $130 million was proof that a “regular” play can be just as effective, all things considered.

Encore Evasion

Some Patterns play more than  others. It’s also true that some Patterns are more prone to making consecutive multiple appearances than others. Take the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern. Part of why this Pattern is the most commonly seen in Mega Millions is its willingness to embrace Pattern streaks. Of course, to have a Pattern streak, one must have a Pattern encore first.

Mega Millions had other plans Friday night. Not only did the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern not come back for an encore, the Pattern that did play is common in its own right. No one picked the six winning numbers, and the jackpot climbed to $75 million.

Will the {2-2-1-1} Pattern do what the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern couldn’t do and make an encore appearance in Tuesday’s drawing?

The Combination Fortification

As a month winds down, there are a few choices a lottery has. It can choose to shake things up or follow suit and cool down. Or, and this is the third choice, the lottery stays its current course.

Mega Millions opted to shake it up a bit this past Tuesday. Although the night was absent of wild plays, there was an interesting development with the Specific Order. That, and a rapturous love of repeating Three-Number Combinations, kept the jackpot from being claimed. The jackpot climbed once again, stopping at $60 million.
