Echoes Through the (Lottery) Void

Ever have those moments where it feels like you’re shouting into a void? That feeling when the only people who hear you are actually your own echoes?

There were echoes and both Lotto Texas and Powerball this past Wednesday. One lottery’s echoes reflected back on the Christmas/New Year’s timeframe, or thereabouts, and its jackpot rose to $6 million. The other had a monstrous jackpot that was slain by an intrepid player from Florida with the combined powers of a Pattern streak and a playback. Naturally, its jackpot reset to $40 million.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

January 28th was a wild night for Powerball. There was far more to winning numbers 9, 12, 15, 31, 60, and PB 2!

The Pattern streak rises. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

For starters, Wednesday night marked the fourth appearance of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, and thus establishing a Pattern streak. There have been 451 Powerball drawings to date and this Pattern has played in 176 of them. Statistically speaking, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 39% of the time.

Next, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order came on the scene with its 49th appearance. This General Order has now played in 27.8% of the 176 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 10.9% of all 451 drawings.

Prior to Wednesday night, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [2-1-1-1-1] General Order, and the 2 1 1 0 1 1 Specific Order were last seen January 25th, 2020. Not only was this a playback, and a Pattern streak clincher, this was an encore for both the General and Specific Orders of the night!

Three-Number Combination(s)

There were also two repeating Three-Number Combinations!

Even with the Powerball jackpot claimed, February doesn’t look to be starting off quietly. The Super Bowl is this weekend: a perfect opportunity for the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak to hold up! Will there also be room for another playback (or two)?

Playback?! Whoever Heard of a Playback?

When we prop up the hood of a lottery, we expect to find a Pattern, a Specific Order, and for Mega Millions and Powerball, a General Order. Sometimes we’ll find Pattern streaks or something wilder, like an Australia Play or maybe a playback. With January about to end, what better send off than one of those wild plays?

Well, folks, it happened again. Mega Millions once again flirted with a playback. This was enough to thwart players and the jackpot went unclaimed. It grew, naturally, to $155 million.

General Lottery Analysis

January 28th, 2020 saw the 235th appearance of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern with 17, 36, 47, 51, 62, and MB 21.

Will Friday night see a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore or maybe a true playback for Mega Millions?

Monstrous and Mischievous Jackpots

The “January lull”, for the most part, didn’t exist for Lotto Texas and Powerball this year. A month that saw a repeating Five-Number Combination and a similar spread saw more madness Saturday night with a Pattern three-peat. Not only was there a three-peat to contend with, a not-so-common Pattern wanted in on the action and one lottery’s (*cough*Powerball’s*cough*) monstrous jackpot grew ever larger to $394 million. Lotto Texas, normally the “classy” one, kept up its mischievous streak with a prize that grew to $5.75 million.

Powerball goes forward with a monster jackpot and a potential Pattern streak. Will either of these hold going into Wednesday night?

Flirting with Playbacks

February is right around the corner and with it comes Valentine’s Day. Regardless of your feelings towards the holiday, it’s a time when lovers and friends send cards and candy. Others try to get their flirt on.

Speaking of flirting, Mega Millions teased the idea of a playback. It was close, but a playback wasn’t meant to be this past Friday night. What we did see was a jackpot that climbed to $141 million.

Encore and Hops

Today’s title means one of two things. Either Lottery Binge has decided to venture into the world of craft beer brewing (and should quit before even getting started) or there was an Australia Play and a Pattern encore. We’re going to go with the latter.

This past Wednesday night was also good for fans of repeating Four-Number and Three-Number Combinations. As busy as the night was, there were no grand prize winners in either lottery. Lotto Texas’s jackpot climbed to $5.5 million while Powerball waltzed into $373 million.

Lotto Texas

Strange and Remarkable 23

On the surface, 23 doesn’t look like a remarkable number. There are 24 hours in a day, not 23. The answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is not 23 (it’s 42), and 23 is so, so…so odd!

Why then is today’s post about 23? That’s the number of times the {3-2-1} Pattern has played in Mega Millions. This Pattern may not play often in this lottery, but when it showed up this past Tuesday, it made an impact. The grand prize went unclaimed yet again and rose to $130 million.

Now with two appearances, the 0 2 3 0 0 1 Specific Order has played in 18.2% of the 11 drawings where the General Order was [2-3-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 8.70% of the 23 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.37% of all 534 drawings. The 0 2 3 0 0 1 Specific Order made its first appearance in the September 12th, 2014 drawing.

It’s not likely that the {3-2-1} Pattern will make an encore in Mega Millions. Still, there’s the matter of the growing jackpot. Will Friday night’s results make the jackpot grow again?

Spreading Lottery-Brand Madness

We’ve all been told (or should have been told) to never judge a book by its cover. That piece of advice must always be considered when performing lottery analysis. On the surface, both Lotto Texas and Powerball’s six numbers are unassuming. After all, they’re just numbers.

Well, this past Saturday saw a monstrous jackpot grow even larger, a Pattern encore, and a similar spread. The jackpot climbed to $5.25 million in Lotto Texas and $343 million in Powerball. Just numbers, indeed!

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

The January 18, 2020 Lotto Texas drawing saw an encore for the {4-1-1} Pattern! This Pattern made its 189th appearance with winning numbers 17, 20, 27, 33, 35, and 45.

This Pattern has now played in 11% of the 1726 drawings and was last seen January 15, 2020.

Now with 63 appearances, the 1 4 1 Specific Order has played in 33.3% of the 189 drawings where {4-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 1726 drawings have been taken into consideration, this Specific Order has played 3.65% of the time. Prior to Saturday night, the 1 4 1 Specific Order played January 4, 2020.

Similar Spread

The {4-1-1} Pattern encore wasn’t the only Lotto Texas highlight. A similar spread was nestled inside! The spread for Saturday night was 03:07:06:02:10. On June 18, 2011, the winning numbers were 22, 29, 35, 37, 40, and 50, and the spread was 07:06:02:03:10. When you see a similar spread remember this sage advice: The differences between drawn numbers are the same, but their orders are different.

Prior to Saturday night, the 0 2 1 1 1 1 Specific Order played March 27, 2019.

Three-Number Combination(s)

There were no repeating Three-Number Combinations this time.

Going into next week, we’ll need to keep an eye out for Powerball. That beast of a jackpot will get toppled sometime, but will it be Wednesday night, and with a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore? Meanwhile, the {4-1-1} Pattern isn’t known to make three-peats in Lotto Texas, but nothing seems too out of the ordinary for these lotteries!

The Cleanest Play

The cleanest play in the lottery world is the playback. This phenomenon occurs in Mega Millions when the Pattern, General Order, and Specific Order, share a date when they previously played together. There is yet another level of playback. In this playback is a special Pattern. When this Pattern plays in Mega Millions, there is but one General Order and one Specific Order that show up alongside it.

That special playback is the Australia Play, and it sent the prize to $116 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The Australia Play made its 17th appearance in the January 17, 2020 drawing. The winning numbers were  3, 25, 30, 54, 70, and MB 9.

One Jackpot Falls. Another Stands

The ride of a jackpot high has to end sometime, and on January 15, 2020, that time came for one lottery. Lotto Texas came into the new year riding on the high of its increasing jackpot. With the $17.5 million prize now won, the jackpot reset itself to $5 million. The Powerball jackpot stood firm, rising to $321 million.

The Great Scaleback

If you partook in Mega Millions last Friday and read our analysis, you’d agree that it was a scorcher! Much like the unseasonable warmth, the onslaught of repeating Three-Number Combinations (half of them thanks to a repeating Four-Number Combination) was relentless. This past Tuesday told a different story: Mega Millions scaled back. An even-tempered play sent the jackpot up to $103 million.
