Mega Millions’ May Finale

With the school year wrapping up and Memorial Day being the unofficial start of summer, Mega Millions was revved up and ready to go! Even though it wasn’t the lottery to finish out May (that joint honor belongs to Powerball and Lotto Texas this year), Tuesday night was anything but quiet. An effective use of a Pattern encore pushed the jackpot over the $200 million line. More specifically, the jackpot grew to $203 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore of May 30, 2023 was thanks to 13, 16, 40, 64, 68 and MB 21. This Pattern has now played 371 times. There have now been 884 Mega Millions drawings, and this Pattern has been featured in 42% of them. Recall that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was last seen May 26, 2023.

The [1-1-1-2-1] General Order, now with 86 appearances, has played in 23.2% of the 371 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 884 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 9.73% of the time. April 28, 2023 was the last time we saw the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order.

Now with 21 appearances, the 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order has played in 24.4% of the 86 drawings where the General Order was [1-1-1-2-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 5.66% of the 371 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 2.38% of all 884 drawings. Prior to Tuesday night, the 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order played September 13, 2022.

The 5 0 1 Specific Order, in its 10th appearance, has now played 13.16% of all 76 drawings associated with the {5-1} Pattern and 0.46% of all 2169 Lotto Texas drawings. Like the {5-1} Pattern, the 5 0 1 Specific Order last played on April 19, 2023.

The Diversity of Encores

The night of May 27, 2023 showed that encores can come in a variety of forms! There was the standard “Pattern XYZ appeared back-to-back”, and there was yet another. This other kind of encore followed a similar path that was taken this past Wednesday. Both methods boosted the Lotto Texas and Powerball jackpots to $6 million and $226 million, respectively.

Saturday night saw the return of the {3-2-1} Pattern with 9, 12, 27, 30, 34, and 50. This Pattern has been played 1144 times. There have now been 2168 Lotto Texas drawings, and this Pattern has been played 52.8% of the time.

The {3-2-1} Pattern wasn’t the only one who returned! Now with 198 appearances, the 2 3 1 Specific Order has played in 17.3% of the 1144 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 2168 drawings have been taken into consideration, this Specific Order has played 9.13% of the time.

Saturday night’s numbers had a spread of 14:01:09:08. Similarly, a spread of 08:14:01:09 was present in the September 28, 2016 drawing. That night, the winning numbers were 30, 38, 52, 53, 62 and PB 1. Note that the differences between numbers played were the same but their orders were different. Also note that this past Wednesday night featured a similar spread as well.

Earlier this week, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern came back for a three-peat. How fitting it would have been if this Pattern returned Friday night! Instead, Mega Millions had other plans to start off the Memorial Day weekend. Still, the jackpot climbed to $187 million.

Powerball, blasted Powerball! That lottery was at it again Wednesday night. Being no stranger to grand displays, this lottery featured both a Pattern and a General Order encore! Those, in addition to a similar spread, pushed the jackpot to $211 million.

Meanwhile, ever-classy Lotto Texas saw the jackpot grow to $5.75 million.

Mega Millions is no stranger to the {3-2-1} Pattern. Although far more common in Lotto Texas, this Pattern shows up from time to time. However, this isn’t the type of 3-2-1 we mean. Not this time.

Powerball’s Double-Up

Long-time readers of our blog know about Powerball’s fondness for going big. Billion-dollar jackpots are one thing, but those don’t come easy! Besides, the jackpot needs to build up to that point. Though it’ll be a while yet before a billion-dollar jackpot looms over the horizon, Saturday night’s results brought the jackpot closer! A {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore raised the jackpot to $179 million.

Lotto Texas was no slouch, either. After being forced to reset this past Wednesday night, its jackpot received a graceful boost to $5.25 million.

In the lottery world, repetition is power. A Pattern encore, or better yet, a Pattern streak, increases a Pattern’s tally and influence. Without Pattern encores and streaks, it’s unlikely that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern would hold the title of most common Pattern in Mega Millions. Even better still is when a Pattern encore makes a large impact, and Friday night did not disappoint.

Friday night’s Pattern encore made two impacts. One such impact was the jackpot rising to $150 million. The other involved Combinations, and Lordy, there were Combinations!

The Mansfield Maneuver and The One That Got Away

The rising jackpot train came to a  stop for Lotto Texas Wednesday night. Thanks to a player from the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, Mansfield, to be precise, the jackpot was reset to $5 million. Meanwhile, Powerball managed to give players the slip, and it grew to $162 million.
