The {3-2-1} Pattern Strikes Back and Return of the {3-1-1-1} Pattern

Today’s post will begin with a couple of shout-outs.

First, to the class of 2018. Whether you’re a college or high school graduate, you’ve survived at least twelve years of schooling, and now it’s time to make your mark in the world. Go forth!

This next shout-out is a special one to the teachers, parents, and students of the Houston area. When tragedy struck (and boy, did it strike), we came together and said to each other, “I got your back”. And, there were some bright spots, too. All this to say, y’all earned those three months. Take that time to chill, stay sharp, and like the old Discovery Channel motto, “Explore your world.”

“Star Wars” reference aside, the post title only tells you a little bit of what went on May 30, 2018. In the most recent Mega Millions post, I mentioned sequels and how summers tend to be filled with them, especially these days. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they’re a big deal. For lotteries, anyway.

Right now, the jackpots for Lotto Texas and Powerball stand at a respective $6 million and $74 million. Lotto Texas got hit by “sequelitis”. Powerball got bit by something else.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

Fresh from the May 26th drawing, the {3-2-1} Pattern came back for an encore with winning numbers 8, 9, 14, 34, 42, and 44.

This Pattern has now played 810 times. Given that there have been 1555 Lotto Texas drawings, this Pattern has played in 52.1% of them.

The {3-2-1} Pattern wasn’t the only thing that made an encore! Now with 151 appearances, the 3 1 2 Specific Order has played in 18.6% of the 810 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. This Specific Order has also played in 9.71% of all 1555 drawings.

Four-Number Combination(s)

The repeating Four-Number Combination 9, 14, 34, and 42 was the cherry on top.

This Combination made its debut in a summer long past. It was the July 21, 2007 drawing. Ten years may seem like nothing to (older) humans, but it is a long time for lotteries.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

The {3-1-1-1} Pattern made its 57th appearance with winning numbers 17, 23, 26, 46, 68, and PB 20.

Out of 277 Powerball drawings, this Pattern has played in 20.6% of them. This Pattern was last seen on May 19, 2018.

The [3-1-1-1] General Order was also last seen in the earlier-mentioned May 19th drawing. This General Order has now played in 28.1% of the 57 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. When looking at all 277 drawings, this General Order has played 5.78% of the time.

Now with five appearances, the 0 3 0 1 1 1 Specific Order has played in 31.25% of the 16 drawings where the General Order was [3-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 8.77% of the 57 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 1.81% of all 277 drawings. Unlike what we saw with Lotto Texas, there was no playback. The 0 3 0 1 1 1 Specific Order previously played on April 11, 2018.

Three-Number Combination(s)

Repeating Three-Number Combinations were absent.

Will Lotto Texas and Powerball greet June with Pattern streaks/encores, or will other Patterns take the spotlight?

Playback: A Mega Millions Story

With the summer blockbuster season comes sequels, prequels, and “interquels”. Mega Millions borrowed from the Hollywood playbook and released a sequel in the May 29th drawing. As of this post, the jackpot now stands at $97 million. Sequel-itis has also hit the basketball world. Thursday night will be the beginning of the saga known as the NBA finals, a.k.a. “Cavaliers vs. Warriors: Part IV”.  What a way to end the month, eh?

General Lottery Analysis

Right off the heels of this past Friday, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 102nd appearance! The winning numbers this time were 2, 11, 55, 58, 67, and MB 2.

Sequels are a part of life. Source: lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

As of this post, there have been 362 Mega Millions drawings, and this Pattern has played in 28.2% of them.

Next up is the [2-1-2-1] General Order. With 33 appearances, this General Order has played in 32.4% of the 102 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 9.12% of all 362 drawings. Prior to Tuesday night, this General Order was also seen in this past Friday’s drawing.

Why should the {2-2-1-1} Pattern and the [2-1-2-1] General Order have all the fun? The 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order showed up in this past Friday’s drawing, too. Now with seven appearances, this Specific Order has played in 21.2% of the 33 drawings where the [2-1-2-1] General Order appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 6.86% of the 102 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when looking at all 362 drawings, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 1.93% of the time.

With the encore powers of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, the [2-1-2-1] General Order and the 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order combined, we get the playback.

Three Number Combination(s)

The night couldn’t be complete without a repeating Three-Number Combination, right? The lone repeating Combination was 11, 58, and 67.

A less-obvious sequel. Source: lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

This Combination made its debut in the October 31st, 2014 drawing.

Summertime is when Mega Millions likes to go for the big plays, like the playback we just discussed. Pattern streaks are a thing, too. Will June start with a big play?

Playing it “Safe” with the Most Common Patterns

Memorial Day weekend is in full swing.

The NBA Playoffs are heating up (Both Eastern and Western Conferences are going to Game 7!)

Things would’ve heated up even more the night of May 26th if either Lotto Texas or Powerball saw a jackpot winner. The jackpots now stand at $5.75 million and $60 million, respectively. But, the night stayed on the “Hot, but not blazing hot”, side. Both lotteries saw their most common Patterns. For those of you out there who love repeating Four-Number and Three-Number Combinations, the night offered up a treat or two.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 3, 14, 18, 35, 43, and 44, the {3-2-1} Pattern made its 809th appearance.

This Combination had the honor of showing up in the last Lotto Texas drawing of 2014. Would you believe that that drawing fell on December 31st?

Did Powerball get any visits from New Year’s Eves past? Let’s find out.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

Will either the {2-1-1-1-1} or {3-2-1} Pattern end the month with a Pattern encore?

Commemorating {2-2-1-1}

May 25th, or that evening that least, kicked off the Memorial Day weekend. It’s traditionally seen as the start of the summer season here in the U.S. and for some lucky students, it is! What better way to take your mind off the heat than a trip to the beach or chilling by the pool? Heck, win the lottery and you could buy a lake house or two. Thing is, nobody won Friday’s jackpot, and it’s now at $84 million. But, the night wasn’t uneventful.

General Lottery Analysis

Now with six appearances, the 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order has played in 18.75% of the 32 drawings where the General Order was [2-1-2-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 5.94% of the 101 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when looking at all 361 drawings, this Specific Order has played in 1.66% of them. We last saw the 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order on August 23rd, 2016.

Three Number Combination(s)

Will Mega Millions say “Adios” to May with a {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore, or will another Pattern end the month?

The Big Combination Spectacle

It’s that time of year again! Summer isn’t just a time of hot weather and long vacations. It’s full of spectacle, too. Big budget movies and televised talent shows (live, even!) beat reruns for sure. With no winners for either Lotto Texas or Powerball May 23rd, and with smaller jackpots to boot, a quiet night would’ve been expected. Of course, these lotteries had other plans. The biggest spectacle of the evening was with the repeating Combinations, especially those of the Three-Number persuasion.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

Given that there have been 1553 Lotto Texas drawings, this Pattern has played 8.50% of the time. We last saw this Pattern in the May 16th, 2018 drawing. That was exactly one week prior.

Now with 40 appearances, the 3 3 0 Specific Order has played in 30.3% of the 132 drawings where {3-3} was the winning Pattern and in 2.58% of all 1553 drawings. Prior to Wednesday night, this Specific Order played on April 14th, 2018.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

After a crazy Friday night, Powerball settled back down. Sort of.

With winning numbers 20, 54, 56, 61, 64 and PB 7, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 80th appearance.

A Pattern encore wasn’t necessary. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

There have now been 275 Powerball drawings, and this Pattern has played 29.1% of the time. This Pattern was last seen on May 5th, 2018.

With 25 appearances, the [1-2-2-1] General Order has played in 31.25% of the 80 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Additionally, this General Order accompanied said Pattern in the earlier-mentioned May 5th drawing. Finally, when looking at all 275 drawings, the [1-2-2-1] General Order has played in 9.09% of them.

Powerball perked up with the world debut of the 0 1 0 2 2 1 Specific Order. This Specific Order has played in 4% of the 25 drawings where the General Order was [1-2-2-1]. We have now also seen the 0 1 0 2 2 1 Specific Order in 1.25% of the 80 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.36% of all 275 drawings.

Three-Number Combination(s)

Just like we saw this past Saturday, there were four repeating Three-Number Combinations:

Memorial Day is traditionally considered the first weekend of summer. Will either lottery kick off the season with a  Pattern encore?

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern Streak Blocker

Some things seemed inevitable May 22nd. The Rockets were sure to lose against the Warriors (hint: they didn’t), and the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was going to make a fifth consecutive appearance. After all, this Pattern is comfortable with “five-peats”, if you will. “Six-peats”, even. But, the streak was blocked (and the jackpot climbed). Which Pattern knocked the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern off its perch? And were there any repeating Three-Number Combinations?

General Lottery Analysis

The Pattern for May 22, 2018 was {3-1-1-1}. With winning numbers 16, 17, 21, 36, 48, and MB 9, this Pattern has now played 69 times.

Given that there have been 360 Mega Millions drawings, this Pattern has played in 19.2% of them. The {3-1-1-1} Pattern was last seen on April 3, 2018.

The [3-1-1-1] General Order, with 24 appearances, has played in 34.8% of the 69 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also appeared in 6.67% of all 360 drawings. Prior to Tuesday night, this General Order played on February 23, 2018.

Now with five appearances, the 0 3 1 1 0 1 Specific Order has played in 20.8% of the 24 drawings where the General Order was [3-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 7.25% of the 69 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when looking at all 360 drawings, this Specific Order has played 1.39% of the time. We last saw the 0 3 1 1 0 1 Specific Order on June 16, 2017. This was reconfigured from the 0 4 1 0 0 1 Specific Order seen that night.

Three Number Combination(s)

What good is a streak smasher without repeating Three-Number Combinations, right? There were in fact three of them:

  • 16, 17, 36 (Debuted June 9, 2015)
  • 16, 17, 48 (Debuted April 26, 2016)
  • 17, 21, 36 (Debuted March 27, 2015)

Will the {3-1-1-1} Pattern make an encore Friday night, or will the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern try to re-establish a streak?

The Biggest Draw of the Night

Lotto Texas and Powerball are worlds apart, and May 19th proved the point. The Texas lottery had a quiet night, what with there being no jackpot winner. But, the Pattern there was like a boomerang. You’ve tossed it, and you think it’s gone, but it comes right back.

As for Powerball, Saturday night was truly that lottery’s time to shine. A player in New Jersey is now $315 million richer, and five players in Florida, Texas, Minnesota, and New York will have $1 million more. Of course, that wasn’t all Powerball had to offer. We’ll get to that momentarily.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 1, 12, 22, 31, 39, and 46, the {2-2-2} Pattern and the 2 2 2 Specific Order made their 217th appearance.

Given that there have been 1552 Lotto Texas drawings, this special play has occurred 14% of the time. For our long-time readers, the last time we saw an Australia Play was on May 12th, 2018.  This lottery has certainly become fond of Australia lately! With the notoriously hot and brutal Texas summer rearing its head soon, a trip Down Under may not be such a bad idea. Winter’s a comin’ down there.

Four-Number Combination(s)

There were no repeating Four-Number Combinations bounding across the numbers plain.

Powerball

And now for the show-stopper.

The numbers that gave five people the option to quit their day jobs were 3, 6, 9, 17, 56, and PB 25.

These six numbers made up the 56th appearance of the {3-1-1-1} Pattern, which was also last seen on May 12th, 2018. This Pattern has played in 20.4% of the 274 Powerball drawings.

With fifteen appearances, the [3-1-1-1] General Order has played in 26.8% of the 56 drawings where the winning Pattern was {3-1-1-1}. This General Order has also played in 5.47% of all 274 drawings. Prior to Saturday night, we saw the [3-1-1-1] General Order on April 11th, 2018.

Now with three appearances, the 3 1 0 1 0 1 Specific Order has played in 20% of the fifteen drawings where [3-1-1-1] was the General Order. This Specific Order has also played in 5.36% of 56 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when looking at all 274 drawings, this Specific Order has played 1.09% of the time. The 3 1 0 1 0 1 Specific Order was last seen on December 23rd, 2017.

Three-Number Combination(s)

There were also four repeating Three-Number Combinations thrown into the mix!

“Going big” was the way to go.

Summer is almost upon us. Will we continue to see these wild and crazy plays in the week ahead?

The Month of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern is one that does not step aside easily! May isn’t over, and summer hasn’t officially started yet, but that didn’t stop the Pattern from achieving blockbuster returns, even if there was no winner (jackpot now at $60 million). With the May 18, 2018 drawing, it has now played four times in a row. Looking back on the month so far, there has been only one drawing where this Pattern didn’t appear.

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 9, 26, 53, 64, 66, and MB 11, this Pattern has now played 160 times.

With 37 appearances, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played in 23.1% of the 160 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also played in 10.3% of all 359 drawings. We last saw the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order on May 8, 2018.

Now with two appearances, the 1 1 0 1 2 1 Specific Order has played in 5.41% of the 37 drawings where the General Order was [1-1-1-2-1] and in 1.25% of the 160 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when looking at all 359 drawings, this Specific Order has played 0.56% of the time. The 1 1 0 1 2 1 Specific Order made its debut in the November 17, 2017 drawing.

Three Number Combination(s)

Friday night’s drawing made for another first. This is the first drawing with the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern that didn’t feature a repeating Three-Number Combination.

With one week to go before Memorial Day, and with summer vacation countdowns in full-swing, will Tuesday’s Mega Millions see a “five-peat” for {2-1-1-1-1}?

The One Where Uncommonly Seen Patterns Were Unearthed

Two things reached the stratosphere May 16th: The Houston Rockets and the Powerball jackpot. Nobody won the big prize Wednesday night, and as I write this post, the jackpot is now an outstanding $306 million. There was a winner in Lotto Texas, one who is now $30.2 million richer. Regardless of whether a winner came forth, a couple of rarities were unearthed, one for each lottery.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 20, 24, 27, 37, 39, and 41, the uncommonly-seen {3-3} Pattern made its 131st appearance.

The first of two rare Patterns. Source: lotterytrend.com.

Given that there have been 1551 Lotto Texas drawings, this Pattern has played 8.45% of the time and was last seen in the April 14, 2018 drawing.

Now with 42 appearances, the 0 3 3 Specific Order has played in 32.1% of the 131 drawings where {3-3} was the winning Pattern. This Specific Order has also played in 2.71% of all 1551 drawings. Prior to Wednesday’s drawing, this Specific Order was last seen on November 30, 2016.

Four-Number Combination(s)

In addition to a not-so-common Pattern, there were two repeating Four-Number Combinations:

  • 20, 24, 37, 39 (Debuted June 10, 2009)
  • 20, 27, 37, 41 (Debuted March 2, 2016)

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

Even rarer than the {3-3} Pattern in Lotto Texas is Powerball’s {4-1-1}. After Wednesday night’s drawing, the {4-1-1} Pattern has made a grand total of five appearances. The winning numbers were 17, 19, 21, 22, 51, and PB 19.

Fifth time’s the charm. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Given that there have been 273 Powerball drawings, this Pattern has played in 1.83% of them. The {4-1-1} Pattern was last seen on March 17, 2018.

With three appearances, the [4-1-1] General Order has played in 60% of the five drawings where {4-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 1.10% of all 273 drawings. We last saw the [4-1-1] General Order on September 16, 2017.

Wednesday night saw the debut of a new Specific Order! The 0 4 0 1 0 1 Specific Order has now played in 33.3% of the three drawings where the General Order was [4-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 20% of the five drawings where {4-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.37% of all 273 drawings.

Three-Number Combination(s)

What’s a rarely-seen Pattern without a couple of repeating Three-Number Combinations to accompany it?

One on top and one near the bottom. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Will either of these rare Patterns make an encore Saturday night?

Three-Peat Tuesday

Another Tuesday has passed, which also meant another Mega Millions drawing. The 358th, to be exact. There was more to May 15th than just that, however:

And, above all else, there was a Pattern three-peat.

General Lottery Analysis

Mega Millions helped itself to a third serving of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern. Its 159th appearance was thanks to winning numbers 21, 34, 44, 49, 61, and MB 21.

Of the 358 drawings so far, this Pattern has played in 44.4% of them.

With 43 appearances, the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order has played in 27.0% of the 159 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also played in 12.0% of all 358 drawings. Prior to Tuesday night, the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order played on April 24, 2018.

Now with ten appearances, the 0 1 1 2 1 1 Specific Order has played in 23.3% of the 43 drawings where the General Order was [1-1-2-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 6.29% of the 159 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, and in 2.79% of all 358 drawings. We last saw the 0 1 1 2 1 1 Specific Order in the April 6, 2018 drawing.

Three Number Combination(s)

A repeating Three-Number Combination or two would be icing on the three-peat cake. Thing is, there were no such Combinations Tuesday night.

Will the {2-1-1-1-1} finish the week with a four-peat, or will another Pattern take the reins?
