Out Like a Lamb

And so we’ve finally come to the end of August. In contrast to what we saw earlier this month, the August 30th Mega Millions drawing was very calm. Although, we did see a Specific Order that hadn’t played in almost a year.

Tuesday’s winning numbers were 28, 32, 41, 51, 71, and MB 11, making it the 118th appearance of the {2-1-1-1-1} drawing.

Given that there have been 299 Mega Millions drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} has played 39.5% of the time. Last we saw this Pattern was during its sixth consecutive appearance on August 16th, 2016.

The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order made its 35th appearance, its first since August 12th. In the 118 drawings which the {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played 29.7% of the time. This becomes 11.7% of the time when we take all 299 drawings into account.

Finally, the 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order played for the third time. Out of the 35 drawings in which the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played, this Specific Order has played 8.57% of the time. This becomes 2.54% when we look at the 118 drawings in which {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, and 1% when looking at all 299 drawings. Prior to Tuesday’s drawing, the 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order last played September 18th, 2015.

What will September have in store? Will rarely played Patterns get their time in the sun? Will we see a Specific Order that’s never played before?

August Doldrums or The Calm Before the Storm?

Before we begin, we’d like to say “Thank you” to all the commentators out there! There appears to be an issue with our Comments Section. For some reason, a large chunk of comments were sent under one long email on August 23rd and it wound up in our Spam filter. We’re currently looking into this.

And so it’s come to this: the final weekend of August. One would think the August Doldrums are a thing now with no callbacks to the dial-up days in either Lotto Texas or Powerball on Saturday, or watching your favorite (U.S.) football team lose spectacularly during preseason. Nevertheless, there were some rumblings in Powerball. Perhaps {2-2-1-1}’s reign as Most Commonly Played Pattern may be short-lived.

Lotto Texas

On August 27th, 2016, Lotto Texas graced us with the following winning numbers: 5, 30, 37, 42, 45, and 49, marking the 152nd appearance of the {4-1-1} Pattern.

With 1372 drawings to date, the {4-1-1} Pattern has played 11.7% of the time, and was last seen June 18th.

The 1 1 4 Specific Order made its 50th appearance, its first since February 27th, 2016. When we look at the 152 drawings which {4-1-1} was the winning Pattern, this Specific Order has played 32.9% of the time and 3.64% if we look at all 1372 drawings.

Powerball

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made its 33rd appearance thanks to winning numbers 4, 32, 48, 49, 63, and PB 20.

Last time, we watched the {2-2-1-1} Pattern claim the title of Most Commonly Played in Powerball. With the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern making its first appearance since July 20th (link), these Patterns are now tied yet again. With 94 drawings, they have both played 35.1% of the time.

Getting back to the {2-1-1-1-1}, the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order made its sixth appearance, its first since April 27th (link). This General Order has now played in 18.2% of the 33 drawings the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 6.38% of all Powerball drawings.

The 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order made its second appearance, its first since January 20th, 2016. Given the six (6) appearances of the [1-1-2-1-1] General order, the 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order has played 33.3% of the time. This becomes 6.06% of the 33 drawings in which the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 2.13% of all Powerball drawings.

As we come to the end of the month (Psst! It’s Wednesday), will the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern reclaim its title?

Flashbacks and Novelties

August is one of those transition months (September is another, but that’s another story). On the one hand, swim trunks and flip-flops are changed out for football pants and cleats. On the other hand, some Patterns look as if they’re building up a streak only to fizzle out. We’re lookin’ at you, {2-2-1-1}. Nevertheless, seeing a Pattern that hadn’t played since May is a nice Friday night surprise.

The winning Mega Millions numbers for August 26, 2016 were 10, 11, 31, 41, 44, and MB 14.

The {3-2-1} Pattern made its first appearance since May 3rd, and its seventeenth overall. With 298 drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has now played 5.70% of the time.

The [2-3-1] General Order made its ninth appearance, and like the {3-2-1}, this also previously played on May 3rd. When we look at the seventeen (17) drawings in which the {3-2-1} Pattern won, the [2-3-1] General Order has played 52.9% of the time. This becomes 3.02% when taking all 298 drawings into account.

Unlike the Pattern and General Order of the night, the 2 0 3 0 0 1 Specific Order is brand new. With its fresh outlook on things, the stats for the 2 0 3 0 0 1 Specific Order can be summed up like this:

  • 1 out of 9 times (11.1%) the [2-3-1] General Order has played
  • 1 out of 17 times (5.88%) the {3-2-1} Pattern has played
  • 1 out of 298 times (0.34%) of all Mega Millions drawings.

We now come to the Three-Number Combination of the evening: 11, 31, and MB 14.

Not only did this particular Combination make its first appearance on September 11, 2015, it was during the 198th drawing, a.k.a. 100 drawings ago!

As we come upon the final Mega Millions drawing of the month, will {3-2-1} disappear for another three months before making another appearance? Will another Specific Order make its debut?

Lotto Texas Retro Flirt and Powerball’s New Champion

Both Lotto Texas and Powerball saw their Most Commonly Played Patterns on August 24th, 2016. You’re probably thinking “So? Of course the Most Commonly Played Pattern is going to show up the most. That’s no big deal!” Sure it was no big deal for the Lotto Texas drawing; it’s most commonly seen Pattern has a comfortable lead. The upset was in Powerball.

Lotto Texas

Wednesday’s winning numbers were 5, 19, 27, 31, 48, and 51.

Making its 715th appearance, the {3-2-1} has no other Pattern that can even come close to taking its title as Most Commonly Played. With 1371 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played 52.2% of the time. Last we saw this Pattern was about two weeks ago on August 13th.

The 1 3 2 Specific Order played for the 105th time, its first since July 9th, 2016. In the 715 drawings which the {3-2-1} Pattern was the winner, the 1 3 2 Specific Order has played 14.7% of the time. This becomes 7.66% when we take all 1371 drawings into account.

While the Lotto Texas drawing appeared “safe”, there was more to it once we popped the hood. A Four-Number Combination that hadn’t seen the light of day in fifteen years made its second appearance!

This Combination was provided by 5, 19, 27, and 31, having first played August 22nd, 2001.

And to think that dial-up was still a thing. Simpler times indeed!

Powerball

Even though Lotto Texas got to have some fun Wednesday night, Powerball was where all the fireworks were this time around. For starters, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has dethroned the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern as the most commonly played Pattern. How, you ask? By the power of these six numbers: 9, 11, 25, 64, 65 and PB 16.

Powerball's winning numbers. From lotterytrend-powerball.com.
Powerball’s winning numbers. From lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Not only did the {2-2-1-1} make its 33rd appearance, this dethroning was the work of an encore! This Pattern previously played August 20th. With 93 Powerball drawings to date, the {2-2-1-1} has now played 35.5% of the time.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order also made a previous appearance in the August 20th drawing. Now playing for the 10th time, and taking the 33 drawings where {2-2-1-1} has played, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 30.3% of the time. When looking at all 93 drawings, this becomes 10.8%.

Finally, the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order made its 3rd appearance. When looking at the 10 drawings where [2-1-2-1] was the General Order of the night, the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order has played 30% of the time. This becomes 9.09% when looking at the 33 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and 3.23% when looking at all 93 drawings. Just like the winning Pattern and General Order, the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order previously played in the August 20th drawing.

As we enter the last weekend of August, will other Combinations that haven’t played since the dial-up days make an encore? Will the {2-2-1-1} Pattern retain its lead in Powerball or will {2-1-1-1-1} try to reclaim its title?

The Dream Begins for the 2-2-1-1 Pattern

Well, August will be entering the home stretch soon. The Rio Olympics are over (onward to Tokyo!) and schools here in Lottery Trend Country started up Monday. An eventful start to the month means an inevitable cool down, yes? Not necessarily…

It’s not March for one.

Anyway, the August 23rd, 2016 drawing saw a repeat of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, last seen on August 19th, 2016, and then some. Tuesday’s drawing gave us the following winning numbers: 2, 7, 46, 61, 66, and MB 1.

Winning Mega Millions numbers from lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

With its 94th appearance, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern retains its position as the second-most commonly seen Mega Millions Pattern (comfortably, too). With 297 drawings to date, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played 31.6% of the time.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 33rd appearance, its first since June 21st, 2016. Considering the 94 drawings in which the {2-2-1-1} Pattern was the winning Pattern, this General Order has played 35.1% of the time. When we look at all 297 Mega Millions drawings, this becomes 11.1% of the time.

All of this gave way to the 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order making its 4th appearance. We last saw this on April 12th, 2016. Looking at the 33 drawings in which [2-1-2-1] was the General Order of the night, the 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order played 12.1% of the time. This becomes 4.26% when looking at all the 94 times the {2-2-1-1} Pattern played and 1.35% when we look at all 297 drawings.

And now, the “and then some”. Mega Millions saw the encore appearance of two Three-Number Combinations:

  • 7, 46, and MB 1, which first played on June 13th, 2014 and
  • 7, 61, and 66, which first played April 29th, 2014.

Looking ahead to Friday, will the {2-2-1-1} go for a three-peat?

Lotto Texas Fireworks and a Powerball Upset

Things are starting to wind down in the “real world”. The Rio Olympics are wrapping up and more families are putting their school routines into action. Meanwhile, in Lottery World, Lotto Texas saw a Pattern that doesn’t play often and then some. On the national scale, Powerball now has a Pattern that gives the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern a run for its money.

Lotto Texas

The winning numbers in the August 20, 2016 drawing were 9, 10, 12, 17, 41, and 51, giving us the 149th appearance of the {4-2} Pattern.

Winning Texas Lotto numbers from lotterytrend.com.

With 1370 drawings to date, the {4-2} Pattern has now played 10.9% of the time. We last saw this Pattern on August 3, 2016.

The 4 0 2 Specific Order played for the 21st time, making its first appearance since July 16th, 2016. In the 149 drawings in which the {4-2} Pattern won, the 4 0 2 Specific Order has now played 14.1% of the time. This becomes 1.53% of the time when looking at all 1370 drawings.

Saturday’s drawing gave us a repeat appearance of a Five-Number Combination! The lucky numbers were 9, 10, 12, 17, and 51, and they played together for the first time back on November 1, 2008.

Here’s the thing to keep in mind about Five-Number Combinations: When a Five-Number Combination repeats, the natural fallout is five Four-Number Combinations repeating. The following Four-Number Combinations were also seen for the first time since November 1, 2008:

  • 9, 10, 17, 51
  • 9, 12, 17, 51
  • 9, 10, 12, 51
  • 10, 12, 17, 51

Powerball

Powerball may not have seen a repeat play of a Three-Number Combination, but it can brag about something else.

Powerball’s winning numbers were 3, 6, 21, 60, 68, and PB 24.

See, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 32nd appearance, and is now tied with the {2-1-1-1-1} as “Most Commonly Seen Powerball Pattern”. The {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played 34.8% of the time, and we last saw the {2-2-1-1} Pattern on August 6, 2016.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order appeared for the 9th time, its first since August 3, 2016. Out of the 32 drawings in which {2-2-1-1} played, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 28.1% of the time. When we look at all 92 Powerball drawings, this becomes 9.78% of the time.

Finally, the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order made its second appearance, and it too previously played on August 3, 2016. Given this, the stats are now as follows:

  • 2 out of 9 drawings (22.2% of the time) in which the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played
  • 2 out of 32 drawings (6.25% of the time) in which the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played and
  • 2 out of 92 (2.17%) of all Powerball drawings.

What do Wednesday’s drawings have in store? Will Lotto Texas see another Pattern not played often? Will the {2-2-1-1} become the new commonly seen Powerball Pattern?

Another Pattern Takes the Reins

The August 19th, 2016 Mega Millions drawing saw the end of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern’s streak. In fact, the reins were handed over to the second most commonly seen Pattern. Although it may not sound much different, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern retains its comfortable lead.

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern appeared for the 93rd time, and the winning numbers were provided by 22, 37, 45, 65, 73, and MB 13.

Winning numbers from lotterytrend-megamillions.com
Winning numbers from lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

Given that there have been 296 Mega Millions drawings to date, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played 31.4% of the time. Interestingly, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern previously appeared in the July 26th, 2016 drawing, right before the beginning of the {2-1-1-1-1} streak!

The [1-2-2-1] General Order made its 24th appearance, its first since July 5th, 2016. Out of the 93 drawings in which the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played, this General Order has played 25.8% of the time. This becomes approximately 8.1% of the time when we look at all 296 drawings.

Out of the ashes of the broken {2-1-1-1-1} streak we saw not just the {2-2-1-1}, but a brand new Specific Order. For the first time in lottery blogging history, the 0 1 2 0 2 1 Specific Order made its appearance in Mega Millions. With a first-time appearance, it has played in 4.17% of drawings in which the [1-2-2-1] General Order has played (1/24), 1.08% of drawings in which the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played (1/93), and 0.34% of all Mega Millions drawings (1/296).

Friday’s drawing also brought us the repeat appearance of two Three-Number Combinations:

  • 22, 65, and MB 13 which first played December 10th, 2013

and

  • 22, 45, and 64 which first played January 14th, 2014.

As the Olympics wind down and more kids head back to school, will Mega Millions mellow out, or will the {2-2-1-1} Pattern be daring enough to establish its own streak? Will another Specific Order make its world debut?

A Visit Down Under and a Series of Firsts

In our last Lotto Texas/Powerball post, we wondered whether or not we’d see the {3-2-1} go for a repeat and if {3-1-1-1} would have a three-peat, respectively. Expectations for these streaks, or the possible beginnings of such, were dashed Wednesday night. Out of the ashes came a Lotto Texas Australia Play and a very rarely played Pattern in Powerball.

Lotto Texas

The winning numbers for the August 17, 2016 were provided by 5, 14, 21, 23, 41, and 53.

With its 189th appearance, the {2-2-2} Pattern played for the first time since June 11, 2016. Given that there have been 1369 Lotto Texas drawings to date, this Pattern has played 13.8% of the time.

This gave way to the 2 2 2 Specific Order, which also previously played on June 11th, 2016. For Lotto Texas, remember that instances where the Pattern and the Specific Order match are called Australia Plays on our blog. Thus, given the very nature of Australia Plays, the 2 2 2 Specific Order has also appeared in 189 drawings and has played 13.8% of the time.

While not an encore of the {3-2-1} Pattern, an Australia Play is nothing to sneeze at. In fact, this Australia Play also saw a repeat of two Four-Number Combinations!

  • 5, 21, 41, and 53, which first played August 29, 2009

and

  • 5, 14, 21, and 53, which first played September 16, 2015.

With these numbers, the {4-1-1} Pattern has now appeared a grand total of two, yes two, times. Given that we’ve had 91 Powerball drawings, this Pattern has played 2.20% of the time. This Pattern played for the first time on April 13, 2016.

The [1-4-1] General Order made its debut, and has appeared in half of all drawings in which the {4-1-1} Pattern has played. Taking all 91 drawings into account, the [1-4-1] General Order has played 1.10% of the time.

The 0 0 1 4 0 1 Specific Order also made its debut in Wednesday’s drawing. Like the [1-4-1] General Order, it’s played in 1.10% of all Powerball drawings.

As we look ahead to Saturday’s drawing, will the Lotto Texas Australia Play and the Powerball {4-1-1} Pattern be bold enough to make an encore?

{2-1-1-1-1} SMASH!

All sorts of records have been smashed this week, and now we can add this. Ladies and gentlemen, for as long as our fair blog has been up, we…we’ve never seen this in Mega Millions. In fact, it seemed unthinkable until Tuesday night.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played six times in a row.

The {2-1-1-1-1} streak was provided by 2, 43, 52, 62, 63, and MB 6. With its 117th appearance and with 295 drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 39.7% of the time. For those of you who have just found this blog, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was last seen August 12, 2016.

In other (non-Earth-shattering) news, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order made its first appearance since July 19, 2016. With 26 appearances and 117 drawings in which the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played 22.2% of the time. When looking at all 295 Mega Millions drawings to date, this becomes 8.81% of the time.

The Specific Order of the night was 1 0 1 1 2 1, now appearing for the tenth time. In the 26 drawings in which the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has appeared, the 1 0 1 1 2 1 Specific Order has now played 38.5% of the time. This becomes 8.55% when looking at the 117 drawings in which the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 3.39% when taking all 295 Mega Millions drawings into account. Like the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order, the 1 0 1 1 2 1 Specific Order previously played on July 19, 2016.

To round out the night, we saw a Three-Number Combination in the shape of 52, 62, and MB 6. This Three-Number Combination first played on June 14, 2016.

What awaits us in this Friday’s Mega Millions drawing? Will the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern continue its unbelievable streak, or will it be toppled?

August Fireworks Continue

Fireworks seem to be a thing for Lotto Texas and Powerball on Saturday nights this month. As Olympians take to the (track and) field and families across the U.S. have mixed feelings about the start of another school year, we saw some big plays Saturday. Lotto Texas saw the return of its most commonly played Pattern and Powerball saw a repeat of a Pattern that doesn’t play often at all.

Lotto Texas

The winning numbers for August 13, 2016 turned out to be 9, 11, 12, 25, 37, and 38.

The {3-2-1} Pattern leaves all other Patterns in the dust, cementing its lead even more so with its 714th appearance. Now with 1368 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played 52.2% of the time. We previously saw this Pattern play exactly one week prior on August 6, 2016.

The 3 1 2 Specific Order made its 128th appearance, and given the 714 times the {3-2-1} Pattern has played, the 3 1 2 Specific Order has played 17.9% of the time. When we look across all 1368 drawings, this becomes 9.38% of the time. The 3 1 2 Specific Order was last seen July 6, 2016.

The August 13th drawing also gave us four Four-Number Combinations. These Four-Number Combinations were first seen anywhere from the infancy of social media to the rise of Game of Thrones memes.

  • 9, 11, 37, and 38, which first played September 29, 2007
  • 9, 11, 25, and 37, which first played October 24, 2015
  • 12, 25, 37, and 38, which first played May 26, 2012

And finally

  • 9, 11, 12, and 25, which first played September 13, 2008

The {3-1-1-1} Pattern made a repeat play, clinching its 13th appearance in Powerball. With 90 Powerball drawings to date, the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played 14.4% of the time. We previously saw this Pattern play in Wednesday’s drawing (August 10, 2016).

The General Order of the night was [1-1-3-1], bringing its total number of appearances to four. Considering the 13 times the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played, the [1-1-3-1] General Order has played 30.8% of the time. This goes down to 4.44% when taking all 90 Powerball drawings into account. Like the {3-1-1-1} Pattern, this General Order was previously seen in the August 10th drawing.

All of this gave way to the 0 0 1 1 3 1 Specific Order, its first appearance since May 4, 2016. With its second appearance, the 0 0 1 1 3 1 Specific Order has played in 50% of the drawings that the [1-1-3-1] General Order has appeared.
