End-of-Month Blowout

Like the month of October itself, Lotto Texas and Powerball didn’t cool down much Saturday night. The October 29th drawings provided some interesting developments to mark the end of the month, one such development being how the repeating Four-Number Combinations in Lotto Texas played out. For those of you who were awaiting the next installment of the Powerball Pattern Tango, that has been postponed for the time being.

Lotto Texas

We were treated to the {2-2-2} Pattern, provided to us by winning numbers 11, 18, 20, 28, 41, and 42.

With 190 appearances to date, the {2-2-2} Pattern is currently the second-most commonly played Pattern in Lotto Texas. The {2-2-2} Pattern is a special one; not only is it a Pattern, its corresponding Specific Order is also 2 2 2.  We here at Lottery Binge like to call this scenario an Australia Play. Since we got ourselves here an Australia Play, both the {2-2-2} Pattern and the 2 2 2 Specific Order have played in 6.47% of the 1390 Lotto Texas drawings. The last time we saw an Australia Play was a little over a couple of months ago in the August 17, 2016 drawing.

We saw two Four-Number Combinations repeat. The first one was 20, 28, 41, and 42, which made its debut back in the August 22nd, 2009 drawing.

The second Combination, 11, 20, 28, and 42 has an interesting history behind it. This combination has played not once, but twice before! The Four-Number Combination 11, 20, 28, and 42 played for the first time on June 3, 2006, and again on March 27, 2010.

Powerball

In lieu of the Powerball Pattern Tango, we saw the 18th appearance of the {3-1-1-1} Pattern. The winning numbers were 19, 20, 21, 42, 48, and PB 23.

Like its Lotto Texas friend {2-2-2}, the {3-1-1-1} is currently the second-most commonly seen Powerball Pattern. Unlike its friend, {3-1-1-1} is not capable of being an Australia Play. Out of the 112 Powerball drawings, the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played 16.1% of the time. Prior to Saturday’s drawing, the {3-1-1-1} Pattern previously played two weeks ago in the October 15, 2016 drawing.

The [3-1-1-1] General Order made its fourth appearance, its first since the June 4, 2016 drawing. Out of the 18 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [3-1-1-1] General Order has played 22.2% of the time. This becomes 3.57% when we look at all 112 drawings.

Finally, we come to the debut of the 0 3 1 1 0 1 Specific Order. So far, it has appeared in 25% of the four drawings where [3-1-1-1] was the General Order of the evening. When we look at the 18 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern played, the 0 3 1 1 0 1 Specific Order has played 5.56% of the time. This becomes 0.89% when we look at all 112 drawings.

As we shift gears to November, will Lotto Texas and Powerball continue their hot streak, or will there be a cool down?

For the Love of Three

The number three was quite prominent on October 28, 2016. On one hand, Game 3 of the World Series ended with the Indians leading 2-1. On the other, Mega Millions saw a three-peat of its most commonly played Pattern, and the repeat appearances of three Three-Number Combinations. Just like we saw on October 21st, “3” is a powerful number.

Unlike the {2-1-1-1-1} in Powerball, this {2-1-1-1-1} is in no danger of being overtaken by another Pattern. The three-peat was thanks to winning numbers 7, 38, 46, 57, 66, and MB 2.

The {2-1-1-1-1} has now made 127 appearances. Given that there have been 316 drawings, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played 40.2% of the time. Prior to Friday’s drawing, we last saw this Pattern in the October 25th and October 21st drawings.

The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order made its 28th appearance, its first since the May 10th, 2016 drawing. Out of the 127 drawings where the winning Pattern was {2-1-1-1-1}, this General Order has played approximately 22% of the time. When looking at all 316 drawings, this becomes 8.86% of the time.

We now come to the 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order, which has now appeared in 7 drawings. Given the 28 drawings where the General Order of the evening was [1-1-2-1-1], the 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order has played 25% of the time. As we move on to the 127 drawings where the winning Pattern was {2-1-1-1-1}, this Specific Order has played 5.51% of the time. This shrinks to 2.22% when looking at all 316 drawings. Prior to Friday’s drawing, we last saw the 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order in the February 9, 2016 drawing.

Finally, we come to the Three-Number Combinations. We saw the following Combinations make their second appearance:

  • 7, 38, and 46 which first played June 13, 2014
  • 38, 66, and MB 2 which first played May 29, 2015
  • 7, 46 and 66 which first played August 23, 2016.

What will November have in store for Mega Millions? Will rarely-seen Patterns get to play? Will the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern go for a four-peat?

All Tied Up

The October 26, 2016 drawing for Lotto Texas was mellow. No Australia Play, no Four or Five-Number Combos that first played back when VHS tapes still existed. Powerball had other ideas. As Chicago beat Cleveland in Game 2 to tie up the World Series, the Pattern Tango commenced once again.

Lotto Texas

There is no doubt that the {3-2-1} Pattern is without equal. With 723 appearances, it is far and away the most commonly seen Pattern. This gargantuan lead was solidified by winning numbers 5, 21, 24, 32, 37, and 39.

Winning Texas Lotto Numbers from lotterytrend.com.

How big is this lead? Its nearest competitor, {2-2-2}, comes in with 189 appearances. Given that there have been 1389 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played 52.1% of the time. We last saw the {3-2-1} Pattern a week ago in the October 19, 2016 drawing.

The 1 3 2 Specific Order made its 106th appearance in Wednesday’s drawing. This Specific Order was last seen a couple of months ago in the August 24, 2016 drawing. Out of the 723 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern, the 1 3 2 Specific Order has played 14.7% of the time. When looking at all 1389 Lotto Texas drawings, this becomes 7.63% of the time.

Powerball

Once again, we have become ensnared in another edition of the Powerball Pattern Tango. Wednesday’s drawing saw the 39th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, tying with the {2-1-1-1-1}. This time, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern was thanks to numbers 2, 3, 16, 48, 56, and PB 24.

Now that there have been 111 drawings, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played 35.1% of the time. To see when this Pattern previously played, we’ll need to go back to the beginning of the month. October 1, 2016, to be precise.

October 1st is also the last time we saw the [2-1-2-1] General Order appear prior to Wednesday’s drawing. With 12 appearances, and 39 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 30.8% of the time. This shrinks to 10.8% when we look at all 111 drawings.

The 2 1 0 2 0 1 Specific Order made its second appearance last night. Out of the 12 drawings where [2-1-2-1] was the General Order, the 2 1 0 2 0 1 Specific Order has played 16.67% of the time. When we look at the 39 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, this shrinks to 5.13% of the time. Finally, this becomes 1.80% when taking all 111 Powerball drawings into account.

As the World Series continues, and with last minute Halloween preparations under way, what will Saturday have in store for Lottery Trend Country? Will the {2-2-1-1} be bold enough to steal away the title of Most Commonly Seen Pattern from {2-1-1-1-1}? Will a rarely-seen Pattern play in Lotto Texas?

Mega Millions and the World Series Cooldown

For all of you who are fans of Major League Baseball (MLB), Tuesday was Game 1 of the World Series. For those of you who happen to play Mega Millions, it was a more relaxed atmosphere, at least compared to the last four drawings. No rare Patterns, no repeating Three-Number Combinations, not even an Australia Play to be had. Whether this was so the Indians’ victory over the Cubs wouldn’t be overshadowed, we can’t say.

What we can say with confidence is that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made an encore appearance in the October 25th drawing. This was made possible by winning numbers 8, 9, 24, 49, 67, and MB 13.

Winning Mega Millions numbers from lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

With 126 appearances, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has an iron grip on the title of Most Commonly Played Pattern. Out of the 315 Mega Millions drawings thus far, this Pattern has played 40% of the time. Recall (or if you just don’t feel like clicking that link) that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern previously played in this past Friday’s drawing.

We’ll need to go back to the September 13, 2016 drawing to see when the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order previously played. As of Tuesday, this General Order has now appeared in 32 drawings. Out of the 126 drawings with {2-1-1-1-1} as the winning Pattern, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has played 25.4% of the time. Taking all 315 drawings into account, this becomes 10.2%.

No mellow night is complete without a rundown of the Specific Order! The 2 1 0 1 1 1 Specific Order made its 9th appearance, its first since July 12, 2016. In the 32 drawings where [2-1-1-1-1] appeared, this Specific Order has played 28.125% of the time. When we look at the 126 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern won, this becomes 7.14%. Finally, when taking all 315 drawings into account, the 2 1 0 1 1 1 Specific Order has played approximately 2.86% of the time.

As the World Series continues onward and everyone scrambles to get ready for Halloween, there’s one important question. Will Mega Millions lay low, or will it attempt to upstage the World Series?

Saturday Night Gems

The night of October 22nd was full of joy and sorrow in Lottery Trend Country. For starters, SMU beat UH like it stole something. After this ritualistic beat-down had taken place, Lotto Texas saw a Pattern that hadn’t played since this summer, and Powerball saw the debut of a Specific Order. Also on the Powerball side of things was a disturbance in the Pattern force.

Lotto Texas

The {3-3} Pattern made its first appearance since the August 16th drawing. The numbers that made it all possible were 2, 5, 14, 25, 26, and 30.

Winning Texas Lotto numbers from lotterytrend.com.

Now having played 116 times, and with 1388 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-3} Pattern has played 8.36% of the time.

The 3 3 0 Specific Order made its 37th appearance, and out of the 116 drawings where {3-3} was the winning Pattern, this Specific Order has played 31.9% of the time. When we look at all 1388 drawings, this shrinks to 2.67%. We last saw this Specific Order play a little over a year ago in the October 17, 2015 drawing.

When it comes to Combinations, we saw the Four-Number Combination 5, 14, 26, and 30 make a repeat appearance.

This Combination made its first appearance two years ago in the September 17, 2014 drawing.

Powerball

Once again, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has taken back its title as Most Commonly Played Powerball Pattern. The 39th appearance is thanks to winning numbers 1, 28, 33, 55, 56, and PB 22.

Now, out of the 110 Powerball drawings, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 35.5% of the time. The last time we saw this Pattern was in the October 5th drawing a few weeks ago. In that scenario, it had tied with the {2-2-1-1} Pattern. Hopefully, this is not the start of Pattern Tango: Part Deux!

Moving on, we come to the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order, which has now made 17 appearances. In the 39 drawings that {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played 43.6% of the time. This becomes 15.5% when we look at all 110 Powerball drawings. To see when this General Order previously played, we need to go back to the September 3, 2016 drawing.

Powerball knocked it out of the park with the debut of the 1 1 1 2 0 1 Specific Order. Given the 17 drawings that the [1-1-1-2-1] has appeared in, this Specific Order has appeared in 5.88% of them. When taking the 39 {2-1-1-1-1} drawings into account, the percentage drops to 2.56%. Finally, looking at all 110 drawings, the 1 1 1 2 0 1 Specific Order has played 0.91% of the time.

As the final (full) week of October gets underway, will the {3-3} Lotto Texas Pattern dare to make an encore appearance? Will the {2-1-1-1-1} retain its title or will it be ensnared in another Pattern Tango with {2-2-1-1}?

There Be the Power of Three

No, it’s not International Talk Like a Pirate Day (missed it by a month). We saw this humble number appear in subtle, and not so subtle ways, in the October 21st Mega Millions drawing.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made its 125th appearance, continuing its reign as the Most Commonly Seen Pattern. The numbers 12, 43, 44, 48, 62, and MB 3 made that possible.

Out of the 314 drawings so far, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 39.8% of the time. We last saw this Pattern play a week ago in the October 14th drawing.

The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has now appeared in 38 drawings. Given the 125 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} is the Pattern of the evening, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played 30.4% of the time. When we look at all 314 Mega Millions drawings to date, this becomes 12.1%. This General Order was last seen two weeks ago in the October 7th drawing.

Next, we come to the 1 0 2 1 1 1 Specific Order, now having played seven times. In the 38 drawings where [1-2-1-1-1] was the General Order, the 1 0 2 1 1 1 Specific Order has played 18.4% of the time. Looking to the 125 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the Pattern, the 1 0 2 1 1 1 Specific Order has played 5.6% of the time. Finally, this becomes 2.23% when we look at all 314 drawings.  We last saw this Specific Order during the Rio Olympic Games: August 12th, 2016.

Finally, there were three Three-Number Combinations that made an encore:

  • 43, 66, MB 3, which first played April 29th, 2014
  • 12, 44, MB 3, which first played December 3rd, 2013, and
  • 12, 44, 66, which first played August 9th, 2016

Mega Millions currently shows no signs of slowing down. Will this energetic streak continue as we head into the final (full) week?

The Common and the Rare

Is it the high of life, or a pre-Halloween sugar rush? Whatever it is, Lotto Texas and Powerball showed no signs of slowing down on October 19th. In one way, they were like night and day. Lotto Texas saw its most commonly played Pattern whereas Powerball saw one of its least commonly played Patterns. Nevertheless, that Pattern is a gem in and of itself.

Lotto Texas

For the 722nd time since Lotto Texas went to the 1-54 numbering system, the {3-2-1} Pattern made an appearance. Wednesday’s winning numbers were 16, 22, 31, 38, 43, and 51.

Winning Texas Lotto Numbers. From lotterytrend.com.

Of the 1387 drawings, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played in 52.1% of them. We last saw this Pattern a couple of weeks ago in the October 5, 2016 drawing.

The 1 2 3 Specific order made its 134th appearance, its first since the September 21, 2016 drawing. This Specific Order has appeared in 18.6% of the 722 drawings that have {3-2-1} as the winning Pattern, and in 9.66% of all Lotto Texas drawings.

Two Four-Number Combinations repeated last night, and their debut dates were truly something to behold:

  • 16, 22, 43, and 51, which first played September 23, 2015 and
  • 16, 31, 38, and 51, which first played September 23, 2006.

As you can see from the dates above, the debut dates were exactly nine years apart. That does not happen very often!

Powerball

Although the {3-1-1-1} Pattern didn’t make a four-peat appearance, we saw the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern play for the first time since July 16, 2016. What makes this Pattern special is that its General Order is [1-1-1-1-1-1] and its Specific Order is 1 1 1 1 1 1. When the Pattern and the General Order and the Specific Order are the same in Powerball (and Mega Millions), we call this an Australia Play.

This edition of the Australia Play was brought to you by 10, 16, 38, 43, 63, and PB 23.

The Australia Play has appeared in 11 of the 109 Powerball drawings to date, which means that it has played 10.1% of the time. This statistic applies to not only the Pattern, but the General Order and Specific Order as well.

We saw a repeating Three-Number Combination in the form of 16, 38, and 63, which debuted December 23, 2015. Talk about an early Christmas gift.

Will Saturday’s drawing give us another rarely seen Pattern?

October Surprises

As the daylight hours dwindle and the leaves fall off the trees, October picks up steam. The World Series is about to get in gear, football continues to draw millions of viewers, and Halloween is just around the corner. For a humble lottery trend analysis blog like Lottery Binge, it also means seeing Mega Millions wanting a piece of this excitement. Let it be known that the October 18, 2016 drawing gave us not only a Pattern from last month, but visitors from last year.

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 97th appearance, its first since the September 16th drawing. The lucky numbers in Tuesday’s drawing were 7, 24, 28, 65, 74, and MB 1.

Winning Mega Millions numbers. From lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

Out of the 313 Mega Millions drawings, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played 31% of the time. It has a way to go before it can even dream of overtaking the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern as Most Commonly Played Pattern, which has played 124 times.

Getting back to the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, the [1-2-2-1] General Order has now appeared 26 times. Like the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, it too made a previous appearance in the September 16th drawing. The [1-2-2-1] General Order has now played in 26.8% of the 97 drawings that have {2-2-1-1} as the winning Pattern, and in 8.3% of all 313 drawings.

The 1 2 0 0 2 1 Specific Order made its fourth appearance in Tuesday’s drawing. Given that there have been 26 drawings where [1-2-2-1] was the General Order, the 1 2 0 0 2 1 Specific Order has played 15.4% of the time. This becomes 4.2% when we look at the 97 drawings that {2-2-1-1} was the Pattern, and 1.28% overall. Although it previously played in September, the 1 2 0 0 2 1 Specific Order did not play this past September. This Specific Order in fact made its previous appearance on September 29, 2015.

Finally, we come to the repeat appearances of the following Three-Number Combinations:

  • 7, 24, MB 1, which first played October 13, 2015, and
  • 65, 74, MB 1, which played July 21, 2015.

As we look ahead to Friday’s drawing, will the {2-2-1-1} Pattern make an encore appearance or will it be a rarely-seen Pattern that gets to play? Will there be another Specific Order that makes its first appearance in over a year?

Repeats! Repeats Everywhere

True to form, the October 15, 2016 Lotto Texas and Powerball drawings were full of energy. What better way to mark the halfway point of the month than the encore of Patterns that played on Wednesday? To add even more whipped cream to this sundae, there were Combinations that played for the first time in years, and a Combination that first played not too long ago.

Lotto Texas

The {4-1-1} Pattern made an encore appearance, thanks to winning numbers 2, 7, 12, 15, 24, and 47.

Winning Texas Lotto numbers. From lotterytrend.com.
Winning Texas Lotto numbers. From lotterytrend.com.

With 155 appearances, and 1386 Lotto Texas drawings thus far, the {4-1-1} Pattern has played 11.2% of the time.

The 4 1 1 Specific Order made its 49th appearance, and unlike the {4-1-1} Pattern did not appear in the October 12th drawing. Instead, we have to go back in the early throes of summer to find when this Specific Order previously played: June 1, 2016. With that said, the 4 1 1 Specific Order has now played in 31.6% of the 155 drawings that have {4-1-1} as the winning Pattern. Taking all 1386 drawings into account, we’re looking at 3.54%.

Saturday’s drawing gave us two Four-Number Combinations that haven’t played in quite some time. One of them played almost ten years ago. These Combinations were:

  • 2, 7, 15, and 24, which first played on October 28, 2006, and
  • 2, 12, 15, and 24, which first played on August 30, 2008

Powerball

Just like Lotto Texas, the Powerball Pattern also made an encore appearance. What’s more is that this particular encore is a three-peat. The {3-1-1-1} Pattern’s three-peat was provided by winning numbers 23, 49, 57, 64, 67, and PB 20.

Making its 17th appearance, the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played in 15.7% of the 108 Powerball drawings.

The [1-1-3-1] General Order, although not making an encore, did make a previous appearance not too long ago in the October 8th drawing. Having said that, the [1-1-3-1] General Order has played in 41.2% of the 7 drawings that {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. When we look at all 108 drawings, this becomes 6.48%.

The 0 1 0 1 3 1 Specific Order played for the second time ever and we have to go back a couple of months to August 10th to see when it first played. Out of the 7 drawings with [1-1-3-1] as the General Order, the 0 1 0 1 3 1 Specific Order has played 28.6% of the time. When we look at the 17 drawings that have {3-1-1-1} as the winning Pattern, this becomes 11.8%, and 1.85% when looking at all 108 drawings.

The Three-Number Combination of 23, 64, and 67 made its second appearance, and like the 0 1 0 1 3 1 Specific Order, it too played for the first time in the August 10th drawing.

As the days grow shorter and the World Series kicks it into high gear, will the {4-1-1} go for a three-peat in Lotto Texas? Will Powerball see a four-peat in {3-1-1-1}?

Mega Millions’ Friday Night Groove

Mega Millions had an eventful week. Not only did it get its groove back in Tuesday’s drawing, the October 14th drawing gave us an appearance from the most commonly played Pattern, as well as the debut of a new Specific Order.

Friday’s winning numbers were 7, 27, 60, 64, 74, and MB 5.

Winning Mega Millions numbers. From lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

Unlike its brother Powerball, Mega Millions’ {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern leaves all other Patterns in the dust. With 124 appearances, it retains its title as Most Commonly Played Pattern. Now that there have been 312 drawings, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 39.7% of the time. We actually saw this Pattern last week in the October 7th drawing.

The [1-1-1-2-1] General Order made its 29th appearance, its first since the September 20th, 2016 drawing. Out of the 124 drawings that have the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern as the winning Pattern, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played 19.4% of the time. As we look at all 312 drawings, this becomes 9.29%.

As we mentioned earlier, a Specific Order made its world debut! That Specific Order was 1 1 0 1 2 1. Given that there have been 29 drawings where [1-1-1-2-1] was the winning General Order, this Specific Order has played 3.45% of the time. The 1 1 0 1 2 1 Specific Order has played in 0.81% of the 124 drawings that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and has played 0.32% of the time when we look at all 312 drawings.

Finally, we come to Three-Number Combination 7, 60, and 64.
