October Heat

The calendar may say “Autumn”, but the summer heat lingers on here in Houston. Sure, it’s not blistering hot, but it’s not exactly pumpkin spice latte weather, either. Mega Millions didn’t get the calendar hint, and things are heating up! There was no grand prize winner October 2nd and the jackpot is now $405 million! There was also a Pattern encore and shades of August past.

General Lottery Analysis

Mega Millions loved the {3-1-1-1} Pattern so much that it made an encore! The 78th appearance of the Pattern was thanks to winning numbers 2, 22, 29, 31, 34, and MB 1.

Given the 398 Mega Millions drawings so far, this Pattern has played 19.6% of the time. Recall that the {3-1-1-1} Pattern was seen on September 28th, 2018.

The [1-1-3-1] General Order made its 20th appearance and has now played in 25.6% of the 78 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also played in 5.03% of all 398 drawings. Prior to Tuesday night, the [1-1-3-1] General Order played on August 28th, 2018.

Now with six appearances, the 1 1 3 0 0 1 Specific Order has played in 30% of the 20 drawings where the General Order was [1-1-3-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 7.69% of the 78 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. When taking all 398 drawings into consideration, this Specific Order has played 1.51% of the time. The 1 1 3 0 0 1 Specific Order accompanied the [1-1-3-1] General Order in the earlier-mentioned August 28th drawing.

Three Number Combination(s)

The lone repeating Three-Number Combination was 29, 31, and MB 1.

This Combination made its debut on August 26th, 2014.

The Mega Millions jackpot has gone sky high. Will someone win that coveted grand prize Friday night, or will the jackpot sore even more?

The End-of-Month Hop-Along

September is over. The beach towels have been replaced with textbooks, the flip flops for shoes, and the holiday decorations are starting to come out in full force. In the lottery world, Lotto Texas and Powerball had their last drawings for the month September 29th. Their grand prizes rose once again, and now stand at $9 million and $229 million, respectively. Saturday night was also a good one for lovers of Australia Plays and (repeating) Combinations.

This General Order has also played in 11.2% of all 312 drawings. When taking all 312 drawings into consideration, this Specific Order has played 3.21% of the time. The 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order previously played on June 27th, 2018.

This Combination debuted on February 11th, 2017.

October is right around the corner and there has yet to be a grand prize winner for either Lotto Texas or Powerball. Likewise, neither lottery is starting the month with a Pattern streak. Will either lottery see an encore, or even see a grand prize winner, in Wednesday’s drawing?

Mega Millions’ September Heights

September for Mega Millions started with a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak. After appearing five times in a row, it was “dethroned” by another Pattern. Since that night, other Patterns took the reins, none of them able to establish a streak, let alone an encore.

September 28th was no different. Friday night saw yet another unique Pattern and a soaring jackpot, now standing at $367 million.

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 39, 45, 52, 56, 59, and MB 15, the {3-1-1-1} made its 397th appearance.

Of the 397 Mega Millions drawings so far, this Pattern has played 19.4% of the time and was last seen on September 21st, 2018.

The [1-3-1-1] General Order made its 29th appearance and has now played in 37.7% of the 77 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. When taking all 397 drawings into consideration, this General Order has played 7.30% of the time. Prior to Friday night, the [1-3-1-1] General Order played on April 3rd, 2018.

Now with three appearances, the 0 0 1 3 1 1 Specific Order has played in 10.3% of the 29 drawings where the General Order was [1-3-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 3.90% of the 77 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when looking at all 397 drawings, this Pattern has played 0.76% of the time. The 0 0 1 3 1 1 Specific Order was last seen on October 17th, 2017. This was reconfigured from the 0 0 2 2 1 1 Specific Order seen that night. The winning numbers were 31, 45, 49, 56, 70, and MB 11.

Three Number Combination(s)

In addition to a crazy-high jackpot, Mega Millions also ended the month with two repeating Three-Number Combinations!

Going into October, we’re looking at a large grand prize and no Pattern streaks. Will the {3-1-1-1} Pattern make an encore? Will someone walk away at least $367 million richer? We’ll just have to wait until Tuesday night.

Never Gone for Long: Lotto Edition

Before we get to today’s lottery analysis, I want to thank guest blogger Romulun Harris for filling in while I was away.

September is almost over, and what a month it has been! Lotto Texas garnered the most attention with a monstrous {3-2-1} Pattern streak. After an astounding eight consecutive appearances, the Pattern was knocked off its pedestal with an Australia Play.

As we look at what happened on September 26th, there were at least a couple of things Lotto Texas and Powerball had in common:

  1. Neither saw a Pattern encore
  2. Both saw their grand prizes grow to $8.25 million and $213 million, respectively

The third “common” thing is a bit subtler and requires further reading.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

The {3-2-1} Pattern didn’t stay off its pedestal for long, coming back strong with winning numbers 6, 13, 18, 30, 48, and 49. This Pattern has now played 832 times.

Down, but not out. Source: lotterytrend.com.

Of the 1589 Lotto Texas drawings, this Pattern has played in 52.4% of them, and was last seen on September 19th, 2018.

Now with 156 appearances, the 3 1 2 Specific Order has played in 18.75% of the 832 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. This Specific Order has also played in 9.82% of all 1589 drawings. Prior to Wednesday night, the 3 1 2 Specific Order played on August 4th, 2018.

Four-Number Combination(s)

In addition to the return of the {3-2-1} Pattern, there were two repeating Four-Number Combinations, both of which appeared ten years ago!

  • 6, 18, 30, 48 (Debuted July 5th, 2008)
  • 6, 13, 18, 49 (Debuted December 6th, 2008)

As much as this blog has gushed over Lotto Texas this month, Powerball still held strong.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 1, 2, 7, 30, 50, and PB 8, the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has now played 62 times.

Last seen not that long ago. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Given the 311 Powerball drawings so far, this Pattern has played 19.9% of

the time. Like the {3-2-1} Pattern in Lotto Texas, this Pattern played on September 19th, 2018.

The [3-1-1-1] General Order made its 17th appearance and has played in 27.4% of the 62 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also played in 5.47% of all 311 drawings. We last saw the [3-1-1-1] General Order on May 30th, 2018.

Another stand-out moment for Powerball was the debut of the 3 0 1 1 0 1 Specific Order! This has now played in 5.88% of the 17 drawings where [3-1-1-1] was the General Order. This Specific Order has also played in 1.61% of the 62 drawings where the winning Pattern was {3-1-1-1} and in 0.32% of all 311 drawings.

Three-Number Combination(s)

There were no repeating Three-Number Combinations Wednesday night.

September 29th will be the last drawing of the month for Lotto Texas and Powerball. Will the grand prizes continue to increase, or will they be won?

Megamillions Gets It Too!

And now, before I leave you all, I would like to thank Freyja Harris for this opportunity to blog to you all for the past three days while she was on a trip in Canada. Freyja will be back tomorrow to fill in on the details while I continue my duties as analyst for lotterytrend-megamillions.com. Until the time comes again when I have to fill in for Freyja, this is Romulun Harris signing off.

The Pattern Encores Cometh

There’s no denying that September is an exciting month. Regardless of how you (or your kids) feel about going back to class, or the start of football season, you can’t deny there’s a buzz in the air.

September 19th was an intense night for Lotto Texas and Powerball. Not only did their respective grand prizes increase to $7.75 million and $178 million, they both saw Pattern encores!

Although, “Pattern encore” is an understatement for Lotto Texas.

Three-Number Combination(s)

In addition to the Pattern encore, there was a lone repeating Three-Number Combination:

Summer is almost over, and it looks like Lotto Texas and Powerball have a big send-off in the works. Will the {3-2-1} Pattern streak continue, and can Powerball get a Pattern streak established Saturday night?

Speaking of transitions, Romulun Harris, our Mega Millions analyst, will be your guide for Saturday night’s drawing. I’ll be away on business.

Changing of the Patterns

A {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern “six-peat” wasn’t meant to be in the September 18th drawing. The changing of the Patterns didn’t just end a Pattern streak, it brought with it another rise in the jackpot. With the grand prize now a robust $275 million, Mega Millions continues to soar.

General Lottery Analysis

The Pattern that knocked {2-1-1-1-1} off its throne was {2-2-1-1}. The 111th appearance of this Pattern was thanks to winning numbers 31, 32, 43, 63, 68, and MB 17.

All it took was six numbers to end a streak. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Given the 394 Mega Millions drawings to date, this Pattern has played 28.2% of the time. Prior to Tuesday night, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern played on August 17th, 2018.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 37th appearance and has now played in 33.3% of the 111 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also played in 9.39% of all 394 drawings. We last saw the [2-1-2-1] General Order on July 13th, 2018.

Now with five appearances, the 0 0 2 1 2 1 Specific Order has played in 13.5% of the 37 drawings where the General Order was [2-1-2-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 4.50% of the 111 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when looking at all 394 drawings, this Specific Order has played 1.27% of the time. The 0 0 2 1 2 1 Specific Order previously played on January 20th, 2015. This was reconfigured from the 0 0 2 2 1 1 Specific Order seen that night, and the winning numbers were 31, 35, 56, 59, 63, and MB 6.

Three Number Combination(s)

This Combination made its debut on August 12th, 2014.

Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing will be the last Mega Millions drawing of the summer, or winter if you’re reading from the Southern Hemisphere. With no Pattern streak, September 21st will certainly keep us on our toes. Will the grand prize continue to soar, or will it be brought back down to Earth?

A change of seasons comes a change of bloggers. Romulun Harris, one of our Mega Millions analysts, will be your guide for Friday and next Tuesday’s drawings. I’ll be out of town for a business trip.

The Great and Powerful Pattern

What can be said about September 15th? Other than it being the halfway mark in September, it’s not that big of a deal, is it? After all, there’s nothing that great about the grand prizes for Lotto Texas and Powerball going up to $7.5 million and $163 million, is there? Nothing that great about the {3-2-1} Pattern playing seven times in a r–.

Who are we kidding!? Saturday night was a mighty big deal and not just because the jackpots rose! It was in Lotto Texas, the “small fry” of the Big Three lotteries, that a Pattern played seven times in a row. Not even the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, King of Mega Millions, has ever performed such a feat!

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

The record-breaking “seven-peat” featured winning numbers 2, 21, 24, 41, 46, and 52. This brings the number of times the {3-2-1} Pattern has played up to 830.

The six numbers that shattered a record. Source: lotterytrend.com.

Of the 1586 Lotto Texas drawings, this Pattern has played 52.3% of the time. Recall that we last saw this Pattern on September 12th, 2018.

Now with 148 appearances, the 1 2 3 Specific Order has played in 17.8% of the 830 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. When taking all 1586 drawings into consideration, this Specific Order has played 9.33% of the time. Prior to Saturday night, the 1 2 3 Specific Order played on September 8th, 2018. How interesting it would’ve been if a playback occurred!

Similar Spread

Instead, another level of awesomeness was applied when a similar spread showed up. The spread for Saturday night’s numbers was 19:03:17:05:06. This is similar to the spread seen on September 25th, 2010. That night, the winning numbers were 1, 7, 26, 43, 46, and 51 and the spread was 06:19:17:03:05. Note how the numbers in the spreads are the same, but the orders are different.

Four-Number Combination(s)

Of course, Lotto Texas couldn’t have just a {3-2-1} Pattern “seven-peat” or a similar spread. There had to be a repeating Four-Number Combination thrown into the mix, too!

And what of Powerball? Was it struck with a touch of Pattern Streak Fever?

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

Powerball remained immune to streak fever, but it had a strong night. With winning numbers 2, 18, 19, 24, 34, and PB 3, the {3-1-1-1} Pattern made its 60th appearance.

On a different journey. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Of the 308 Powerball drawings, this Pattern has played in 19.5% of them, and was last seen on June 23rd, 2018.

The [1-3-1-1] General Order made its 17th appearance and has now played in 28.3% of the 60 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. When taking all 308 drawings into consideration, this General Order has played 5.52% of the time. Prior to Saturday night, the [1-3-1-1] General Order played on February 7th, 2018.

Now with three appearances, the 1 3 1 0 0 1 Specific Order has played in 17.6% of the 17 drawings where the General Order was [1-3-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 5% of the 60 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.97% of all 308 drawings. The 1 3 1 0 0 1 Specific Order was last seen on July 30th, 2016.

Three-Number Combination(s)

Powerball’s contribution to the “awesome sauce” pot was the repeating Three-Number Combination 2, 18, and 19.

Top the heap. Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

This Combination made its debut in the March 4th, 2017 drawing.

It can be said without a doubt that September 15th was one of, if not the biggest night Lottery Binge has covered. Lotto Texas has developed a love affair with the {3-2-1} Pattern and we’ll need to keep an eye on whether the record-breaking streak continues, or there’s a break-up. Powerball hasn’t seen an encore in a while. Could a {3-1-1-1} Pattern encore show up Wednesday night?
