No Sweeps, No Creeps, No Pattern Streaks

The talk amongst the lotteries is the Pattern streak in Mega Millions. Word has it that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played five times in a row over there, and Mega Millions enthusiasts are waiting to see if the Pattern will return for a sixth time. Pattern streaks, and rumors of such, are absent in both Lotto Texas and Powerball right now. Instead, they have other means of generating buzz, one of which being jackpots that trend up!

June 10, 2023 was kind to the Lotto Texas and Powerball jackpots. Players tried and failed to capture the prizes. Few would turn their noses up at jackpots that grew to $7.5 million and $324 million, respectively.

Two Lotteries Sneak Out the Back Door

Lotteries tend to end a month in two ways. They can either end it with expansive fireworks, or they can sneak out through the back door, so to speak. One technique involves encores, similar spread(s), Combinations, or a combination of these. The other is a more relaxed approach and may very well be the calm before the storm.

Lotto Texas and Powerball felt fanfare was unnecessary Wednesday night. A Pattern encore here and a repeating Three-Number Combination there pushed the respective jackpots to $6.5 million and $262 million just as easily.

The Diversity of Encores

The night of May 27, 2023 showed that encores can come in a variety of forms! There was the standard “Pattern XYZ appeared back-to-back”, and there was yet another. This other kind of encore followed a similar path that was taken this past Wednesday. Both methods boosted the Lotto Texas and Powerball jackpots to $6 million and $226 million, respectively.

Do the lotteries have something big in store for Memorial Day, or will they take that time to chill?

A 3-2-1 of a Different Sort

Mega Millions is no stranger to the {3-2-1} Pattern. Although far more common in Lotto Texas, this Pattern shows up from time to time. However, this isn’t the type of 3-2-1 we mean. Not this time.

Mega Millions, a lottery of many talents, produced another kind of 3-2-1 Tuesday night. There was a Pattern three-peat, a General Order encore, and a Specific Order humming its own tune. All these factors contributed to the prize money growing to $169 million.

Is a {2-2-1-1} Pattern streak in store for the start of Memorial Day weekend?

Powerball’s Double-Up

Long-time readers of our blog know about Powerball’s fondness for going big. Billion-dollar jackpots are one thing, but those don’t come easy! Besides, the jackpot needs to build up to that point. Though it’ll be a while yet before a billion-dollar jackpot looms over the horizon, Saturday night’s results brought the jackpot closer! A {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore raised the jackpot to $179 million.

Lotto Texas was no slouch, either. After being forced to reset this past Wednesday night, its jackpot received a graceful boost to $5.25 million.

Will either the {3-2-1} Pattern or the {2-2-1-1} Pattern dominate next week?

The Tale of the Repetitious Pattern

In the lottery world, repetition is power. A Pattern encore, or better yet, a Pattern streak, increases a Pattern’s tally and influence. Without Pattern encores and streaks, it’s unlikely that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern would hold the title of most common Pattern in Mega Millions. Even better still is when a Pattern encore makes a large impact, and Friday night did not disappoint.

Friday night’s Pattern encore made two impacts. One such impact was the jackpot rising to $150 million. The other involved Combinations, and Lordy, there were Combinations!

General Lottery Analysis

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern returned to Mega Millions with 5, 11, 41, 44, 55 and MB 14, bringing the number of appearances to 247.

This Specific Order has also played in 3.64% of the 247 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 1.02% of all 881 drawings. Prior to Friday night, the 2 0 1 2 0 1 Specific Order played May 27, 2022.

Four-Number Combination

Repeating Four-Number Combination 11, 41, 44 and MB 14 debuted August 26, 2016.

Three-Number Combinations

Naturally, four repeating Three-Number Combinations were found at the site of the repeating Four-Number Combination. In fact, one played twice before!

  • 11, 41, 44
  • 11, 41, MB 14
  • 11, 44, MB 14
  • 41, 44, MB 14

All the above Combinations debuted in the earlier-mentioned August 26th drawing. Additionally, the first Combination in the list above was last seen May 13, 2022.

There was, in fact, one last Combination. Repeating Three-Number Combination 5, 11 and MB 14 debuted in the September 11, 2015 drawing.

Is the {2-2-1-1} Pattern on tap for a three-peat Tuesday night?

The Mansfield Maneuver and The One That Got Away

The rising jackpot train came to a  stop for Lotto Texas Wednesday night. Thanks to a player from the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, Mansfield, to be precise, the jackpot was reset to $5 million. Meanwhile, Powerball managed to give players the slip, and it grew to $162 million.

Will an Australia Play be what forces Powerball to reset Saturday night?

Playback: So Close and Yet So Far

May 16, 2023 seemed like a good night for a playback. The school year’s over, or just about, and the mischief a playback provides would be one way Mega Millions could kick off summer (for those old enough to play, anyway). Somewhere along the way, Mega Millions changed its mind. Even though the playback was aborted, the jackpot grew to $132 million.

General Lottery Analysis

Tuesday night’s winning numbers were 15, 34, 36, 69, 70 and MB 17. This brought the number of appearances by the {2-2-1-1} Pattern to 246. There have been 880 Mega Millions drawings, and this Pattern has played 28% of the time.
