The Great Scaleback

If you partook in Mega Millions last Friday and read our analysis, you’d agree that it was a scorcher! Much like the unseasonable warmth, the onslaught of repeating Three-Number Combinations (half of them thanks to a repeating Four-Number Combination) was relentless. This past Tuesday told a different story: Mega Millions scaled back. An even-tempered play sent the jackpot up to $103 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The January 14, 2020 Mega Millions drawing marked a milestone for the {3-1-1-1} Pattern. With winning numbers 9, 11, 13, 31, 47, and MB 11, this Pattern made its 100th appearance!

Given that there have now been 532 Mega Millions drawings, this Pattern has played 18.8% of the time.

The [3-1-1-1] General Order, now with 39 appearances, has played in 39% of the 100 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 532 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 7.33% of the time.

Both the {3-1-1-1} Pattern and the [3-1-1-1] General Order were last seen in the January 3, 2020 drawing.

Now with two appearances, the 3 0 1 1 0 1 Specific Order has played in 5.13% of the 39 drawings where the General Order was [3-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 2% of the 100 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.38% of all 532 drawings. The 3 0 1 1 0 1 Specific Order was first seen in the March 25, 2016 drawing.

Three-Number Combination(s)

There were only two repeating Three-Number Combinations Tuesday night:

What happened this past Tuesday was the first of many Mega Millions scalebacks to come this year. Even though the number of Combinations was reduced, the jackpot is still high! How much more will it soar?
