Mega Millions Springs into August

The August 3, 2018 Mega Millions drawing was a bit different from last time. There was no {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern three-peat and the only similarity, if it can be called that, was an inching upward of the grand prize. With the jackpot now at $55 million, the one thing we can’t shake here at Lottery Binge is how for the first time since the spring, an Australia Play showed up.

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 9, 28, 30, 54, 60, and MB 2, Mega Millions saw its ninth Australia Play.

Could the Australia Play pull an upset and make an encore appearance in Tuesday’s drawing?

An Encore and Crazy-Large Jackpot Fever

August 1st was not only Hump Day this year, it was also Lottery Night! Lotto Texas kicked off the month with a Pattern encore and a jackpot now at $14.5 million. Meanwhile, Powerball caught that “crazy large jackpot fever” from Mega Millions. The jackpot for Powerball crossed just over the $200 million mark: $203 million to be precise.

Slow and Steady (Pattern) Ends the Month

What a month it was! From holidays to a jackpot that was worth over half a billion dollars, July was festive. What with those Back to School ads and the calendar, July 31st means only a few weeks left of summer. For Mega Millions, it meant another night of recuperation. Even without a big show, $50 million does go a long way.

General Lottery Analysis

The biggest event of the evening was the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore. With winning numbers 12, 15, 35, 64, 69, and MB 9, this Pattern has now played 167 times.

Given the 380 Mega Millions drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 43.9% of the time. As is the nature of encores, this Pattern previously played July 27, 2018.

With 39 appearances, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played in 23.4% of the 167 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also played in 10.3% of all 380 drawings. Prior to Tuesday night, this General Order played on June 1, 2018.

Now with eight appearances, the 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order has played in 20.5% of the 39 drawings where the General Order was [1-1-1-2-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 4.79% of the 167 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 2.11% of all 380 drawings. The 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order previously played on May 8, 2018.

Given the nature of a “recovering” lottery, there were no repeating Three-Number Combinations this time.

Could Mega Millions stir up a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern three-peat Friday night, or will it continue to chill out?

The End-of-Month Double Repeat (Sort of)

Summer’s almost over, but don’t worry! There are still a few weeks left of sleeping in before panic-shopping for Back to School. One thing that is over is July for Lotto Texas and Powerball. July 28, 2018 marked the last drawings of the month for both, and with no grand prize winners, their respective jackpots are now $13.75 million and $187 million. Despite their many differences, they did share one thing in common.

Lotto Texas

Given that there have been 1572 Lotto Texas drawings to date, this Pattern has played 52.2% of the time.

Now with 153 appearances, the 3 1 2 Specific Order has played in 18.7% of the 820 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. When taking all 1572 drawings into consideration, this Specific Order has played 9.73% of the time. Both the {3-2-1} Pattern and the 3 1 2 Specific Order played together in the July 18, 2018 drawing. When the Pattern and Specific Order played together on a previous date in Lotto Texas, this is called a playback.

Of the 294 Powerball drawings, this Pattern has played 29.3% of the time and was last seen on July 18, 2018.

With 35 appearances, the [2-2-1-1] General Order has played in 40.7% of the 86 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This General Order has also played in 11.9% of all 294 drawings and played alongside the {2-2-1-1} Pattern in the earlier-mentioned July 18th drawing.

So far, it looks like Lotto Texas and Powerball were joined at the hip. Pattern-wise at least. Question is, was Powerball’s Specific Order also last seen on July 18, 2018?

Now with four appearances, the 0 2 0 2 1 1 Specific Order has played in 11.4% of the 35 drawings where the General Order was [2-2-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 4.65% of the 86 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Finally, when taking all 294 drawings into consideration, this Specific Order has played 1.36% of the time. Coming Down From a (Jackpot) High

Mega Millions came back down to Earth in the July 27th drawing. With no grand prize winner, the jackpot inched up to $45 million. This (understandably) quiet night saw an appearance from the lottery’s most commonly seen Pattern.

The Australia Play Double Feature

Someone became at least $522 million richer after the July 24, 2018 Mega Millions drawing. Any lottery that had a drawing the next night would have its work cut out for it. Both Lotto Texas and Powerball rose to the occasion July 25th. Not only did their jackpots rise to $13 million and $168 million, respectively, they both saw an Australia Play! To learn more about what an Australia Play is, click here. Although the post covered Lotto Texas, the same principle applies to Powerball and Mega Millions.

All bubbles eventually burst.

Cliched yes, but these statements were true in the aftermath of the July 24th Mega Millions drawing. The sole winner of the grand jackpot hailed from the Golden State! The prize has simmered down to $40 million, which itself is none too shabby.

Now to unmask the Pattern and its General/Specific Order cohorts.

Lotto Texas and Powerball’s Attention-Grabbing Patterns

The biggest story of Lottery Binge this summer has been Mega Millions. This lottery’s grand prize has soared into the stratosphere and is close to half a billion, yes billion dollars! Even though Mega Millions has had the lion’s share of buzzworthy news, Lotto Texas and Powerball are not down for the count. After July 21st, Powerball is feeling the urge to rise, and its jackpot is now $147 million. Lotto Texas isn’t likely to see a prize that large anytime soon ($12.25 million ain’t too shabby), but it had its own way of generating buzz—throwing a rarely-played Pattern into the ring.
