May the Pattern Streaks Be With You

Love it or hate it, Star Wars has had lasting appeal. Movies, toys, spin-offs, cartoons and more have kept the franchise in our collective conscious for at least four decades.

What does Star Wars have to do with today’s post, you ask? Aside from the title being a (late) nod to Star Wars Day, lotteries, too, have that appeal. Striking it big just by picking the six winning numbers. What’s not to love about that? Except, it’s not as easy as it sounds, and lotteries have a way of thwarting players, and the most appealing method depends on a lottery’s mood.

On May 6, 2020, we saw that Pattern streaks were very appealing to both Lotto Texas and Powerball! As their flaming hot streaks continued, their jackpots rose to $15 million and $68 million, respectively.

The End-of-April Encore Doubleheader

In yesterday’s blog post, we analyzed the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore in Mega Millions, and the resulting aftermath. Apparently, the urge to end the month with an encore, and with the most commonly seen Pattern no less, was contagious! Not only did Lotto Texas and Powerball end April with Pattern encores, one such encore was a three-peat! With no grand prize winners to be had, the jackpot for Lotto Texas rose to $13.75 million. Powerball, now used to its “slimmer” state, saw its jackpot rise to $51 million.

Pent-Up Lottery Energy

For some people, being made to stay home has been an opportunity to catch up on books they’ve been meaning to read, shows and movies they’ve been meaning to watch, and not worry too much about appearance. But, even the most “homebodiest” of homebodies doesn’t want to stay at home for too long. The longer you’re homebound, the more pent-up energy and without a proper outlet, the results can be explosive.

Thankfully, Lotto Texas and Powerball found a release valve! The night of April 18, 2020 was a night of repeating Combinations doubles and a surge in the jackpots. Well, more like a steady growth. The prize rose to $12.25 million in Lotto Texas and $29 million in Powerball.

A Not-so-Taxing Wednesday

April 15 is traditionally Tax Day in the U.S. All those who haven’t filed their taxes yet can breathe a sigh of relief, as this year’s Tax Day is July 15.

With one lottery embracing a payback and both lotteries forming an attachment to this past January, the night was anything but quiet! No grand prize winners meant rising jackpots. Lotto Texas climbed to $12 million and Powerball crossed over to $24 million. Can you believe the Lotto Texas jackpot is now worth half that of Powerball’s?

Friday Night Substitution

When you hear “substitute” or “substitution”, what comes to mind? We’ve all had substitute teachers or had to make do with a different brand of peanut butter if the one we wanted was unavailable. A substitute isn’t inherently superior or inferior; it’s just something different.

If you played Mega Millions this past Friday (or not), then you should know that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak was terminated. In fact, you could say a repeating Four-Number Combination and the resulting madness was a substitute for whatever the Pattern five-peat would have brought. Regardless of your feelings towards repeating Four-Number Combinations in Mega Millions, it’s highly doubtful you’d turn your nose up at a jackpot that jumped to $145 million!

Will Tuesday night see a {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore or another repeating Four-Number Combination?

Patterns That Start with “3”

Considering that Lotto Texas and Powerball drawings took place April 4, 2020, it would’ve been fitting to see one or both lotteries feature Patterns that start with “4”. Instead, both lotteries opted for Patterns that started with “3”. That move pushed the prize to $10.75 million in Lotto Texas and $190 million in Powerball.

There Be No Fools

In times like these, we could all use a good laugh. Whether it’s sitcoms or jokes, cartoons or pranks, we’d go nuts if we never stopped to laugh at the absurdities of “real life”.

Lotto Texas and Powerball got in a laugh or two Wednesday night. Neither of them showered us with Pattern encores, but there was a repeating Combination of the Three or Four-Number kind somewhere. Even though the lotteries were taking it easy for the most part, they had enough energy to boost the jackpot to $10.5 million in Lotto Texas and $180 million in Powerball.

From a similar spread in Powerball to a newfound love of repeating Four-Number Combinations in both lotteries, this has been quite a week! Will next week be more of the same or will another form of methodical madness take control?

Lotto Texas and Powerball Go Stir Crazy

As toilet paper remains in limited supply and people discover basic hygiene (Seriously, y’all. Wash your hands), Lotto Texas and Powerball are kicking back. They’re above such worries like soap and viruses, since they don’t get sick and all. Even if they can lord it over humans that they’re immune to every disease ever, there is one thing that not even a poised lottery like Lotto Texas is immune to: Going nuts.

Both lotteries thought “Throwing things to a wall and see what sticks” was a fun way to pass the time Wednesday night. Based on our analysis, a lot of things got stuck! During the cleanup process, a couple of jackpot hikes were salvaged. Lotto Texas climbed to $9.5 million while Powerball struck gold at $140 million.

Similar Spread

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore wasn’t all Powerball had in its arsenal. Wednesday night also produced a similar spread!

That night, the winning numbers were 19, 31, 35, 50, 67, and PB 14 and the spread was 12:04:15:17. Remember that when dealing with similar spreads even though the differences between drawn numbers are the same, the order will be different.
