The Ghosts of Christmas Seasons Past

Even though we’re at the beginning of a new year, the January 7th, 2017 drawings for Lotto Texas and Powerball were still in 2016 mode. Our analysis showed that both lotteries had Patterns that previously played during this past holiday season. What’s more is that the Specific Orders harkened back to even earlier winter holiday periods.

Lotto Texas

The {4-2} Pattern made its 156th appearance with winning numbers 2, 5, 14, 18, 26, and 27.

This not-often-seen Pattern previously played on Christmas Eve 2016, and has now appeared in 11.1% of the 1410 Lotto Texas drawings.

The 4 2 0 Specific Order made its 31st appearance, and has now played in 19.9% of the 156 drawings where the {4-2} Pattern has appeared and in 2.2% of all drawings. Prior to Saturday, we saw the 4 2 0 Specific Order in the December 19th, 2015 drawing.

Our Lotto Texas coverage concludes this time around with repeating Four-Number Combinations. Three Combinations had the honor of making a repeat appearance:

  • 2, 14, 18, and 27 (debuted April 16th, 2008)
  • 2, 5, 14, and 26 (debuted October 22nd, 2016)
  • 5, 14, 18, and 27 (debuted August 31st, 2013)

Powerball

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern continues to hold on as the most commonly seen Pattern in Powerball. The 46th appearance was thanks to winning numbers 3, 12, 24, 37, 63, and PB 10.

This Pattern has now played in 34.9% of the 132 Powerball drawings to date. Prior to Saturday, we last saw the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern in the December 28th, 2016 drawing.

Next, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its ninth appearance. Like the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, it also previously played in the December 28th drawing. This General Order has now played in 19.6% of the 46 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 6.82% of all drawings.

The 2 1 1 0 1 1 Specific Order made its second appearance, and has played in 22.2% of the nine drawings where the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 4.35% of the 46 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern appeared, and in 1.52% of all drawings. The 2 1 1 0 1 1 Specific Order previously played in the December 12th, 2015 drawing.

Will next week bring more repeating Four-Number Combinations? Will other rarely seen Patterns get to play?

Cranking It Up

New Year’s is right around the corner, and there were no signs of slowing down for either Lotto Texas or Powerball. Both lotteries saw their most commonly played Patterns make an appearance, and Powerball saw a repeating Three-Number Combination. Let’s take a closer look at what the night of December 28, 2016 had to offer.

Lotto Texas

With 733 appearances, the {3-2-1} Pattern is far and away the most commonly seen Lotto Texas Pattern. The occasion was marked by winning numbers 10, 11, 12, 36, 43, and 47.

This Pattern has now played in 52.1% of the 1407 Lotto Texas drawings to date. Prior to Wednesday, the {3-2-1} Pattern previously played in the December 21st drawing exactly one week ago.

Our Lotto Texas coverage concludes with the 3 1 2 Specific Order, now making its 131st appearance. This Specific Order has appeared in 17.9% of the 733 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has played, and in 9.31% of all drawings. We last saw the 3 1 2 Specific Order in the December 10, 2016 drawing.

Powerball

As we mentioned earlier, Powerball also saw its most commonly played Pattern. The {2-1-1-1-1} managed to hold on to its #1 ranking, thanks to winning numbers 16, 23, 30, 44, 58, and PB 4.

Now with 45 appearances, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played in 34.9% of the 129 Powerball drawings. Like the {3-2-1} Pattern in Lotto Texas, Powerball’s {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was also seen just one week ago.

Next, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its eighth appearance, the first since the December 17th, 2016 drawing. This General Order has played in 17.8% of the 45 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and in 6.20% of all drawings. Prior to Wednesday, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order played in the December 17, 2016 drawing.

The 0 2 1 1 1 1 Specific Order made its second appearance. With that said, this Specific Order has appeared in 25% of the eight drawings where the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has played, 4.44% of the 45 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and 1.55% of all Powerball drawings. The 0 2 1 1 1 1 Specific Order made its debut in the May 8, 2016 drawing.

One of the evening’s biggest highlights was the repeat appearance of the Three-Number Combination 16, 30, and 44, which made its debut in the October 12, 2016 drawing.

Saturday’s drawing falls on New Year’s Eve. Will Lotto Texas and Powerball greet the new year with great gusto, or will the fireworks fizzle out?

Resting Up for New Year’s

What better way to kick off the Christmas weekend than with…a mellow night? For anyone who hoped to see an Australia Play or a repeating Three-Number Combination in the December 23rd Mega Millions drawing, we’re sorry to disappoint. Even those who wanted to see a {3-1-1-1} Pattern encore were out of luck. But, we did see the most commonly played Pattern.

Like it is with Powerball (for now), the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern is the most commonly played Mega Millions Pattern to date. The 131st appearance of this Pattern was thanks to winning numbers 21, 30, 39, 60, 69, and MB 15.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played in 25.2% of the 332 drawings. We last saw this Pattern earlier in the month, back on December 6th.

The [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its 33rd appearance, its first since October 25th, 2016. As of Friday’s drawing, this General Order has played in 25.2% of the 131 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 9.94% of the 332 Mega Millions drawings.

Finally, the 0 2 1 1 1 1 Specific Order made its sixth appearance. This Specific Order has now played in 18.2% of the 33 drawings where the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 4.58% of the 131 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and 1.81% of all 332 drawings. We last saw the 0 2 1 1 1 1 Specific Order play in the May 13th, 2016 drawing.

With one week to go before 2017, will Mega Millions end the year with a bang, or keep on its mellow streak?

A Most Common Cause

December 21st, 2016 was the start of winter, or summer if you’re reading our blog from the Southern Hemisphere. It also marked the halfway point in the week before Christmas. This December 21st saw Lotto Texas and Powerball share common ground.

Lotto Texas

The {3-2-1} Pattern made its 732nd appearance, thanks to winning numbers 7, 16, 22, 24, 28, and 54.

As of Wednesday’s drawing, this Pattern has now appeared in 52.1% of the 1405 drawings. We last saw this Pattern a few weeks back in the December 10th drawing. The {3-2-1} Pattern remains far and away the most commonly seen Pattern.

Our Lotto Texas coverage concludes with the 122nd appearance of the 2 3 1 Specific Order. This Specific Order has played in 16.7% of the 732 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has played, and 8.68% of all Lotto Texas drawings. We last saw the 2 3 1 Specific Order in the November 26th, 2016 drawing.

Powerball

Like Lotto Texas, Powerball saw its most commonly seen Pattern. The {2-1-1-1-1} asserted itself with an encore appearance. This occasion was marked by winning numbers 25, 33, 40, 54, 68, and PB 3.

Having now appeared in 44 drawings, this Pattern has now played in 34.6% of the 127 Powerball drawings. Recall that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern previously played in this past Saturday’s drawing.

Next, we come to the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order, now making its eleventh appearance. This General Order has now played in 25% of the 44 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and 8.66% of all Powerball drawings. We last saw the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order in the November 23rd, 2016 drawing.

The 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order made its second appearance. With that said, this Specific Order has appeared in 18.2% of the 11 drawings where the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 4.54% of the 44 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 1.57% of all drawings. The 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order made its debut in the November 18th, 2015 drawing.

There’s only a few more shopping days until Christmas, and the next drawing will occur on Christmas Eve. Will Lotto Texas and Powerball stuff our stockings to the brim, or leave us a lump of coal?

Break? What Break?

With a good chunk of the Northern Hemisphere in the grip of some powerfully cold air, it doesn’t look like much of a warm-up is coming anytime soon. Of course, Lotto Texas and Powerball didn’t get that message. While Mega Millions gave us a quiet start to the weekend on Friday, Saturday night’s lotteries had some noteworthy developments.

Lotto Texas

One of these developments in the December 17, 2016 Lotto Texas drawing was the appearance of the {5-1} Pattern. This rarely-seen Pattern was thanks to 16, 42, 44, 45, 49, 51.

Having now made 49 appearances, the {5-1} Pattern has played in 3.49% of the 1404 drawings to date. We last saw this Pattern in the September 28, 2016 drawing.

The 1 0 5 Specific Order made its ninth appearance, its first since the September 30th, 2015 drawing. This Specific Order has played in 18.4% of the 49 drawings where the {5-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 0.64% of all Lotto Texas drawings.

Our Lotto Texas coverage ends with a repeat appearance of the Four-Number Combination 16, 42, 44, and 51.

This Combination made its debut in the September 24, 2014 drawing.

Powerball

Powerball narrowly averted the (in)famous Pattern Tango between the {2-2-1-1} and {2-1-1-1-1} Patterns. We saw the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern make its 43rd appearance, allowing it to break the tie and hold on to its title as Most Commonly Played Pattern. The winning numbers for this occasion were 1, 8, 16, 40, 48, and PB 10.

With 43 appearance, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played in 34.1% of the 126 Powerball drawings. This Pattern previously played just before (US) Thanksgiving: November 23, 2016.

Next, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its seventh appearance, its first since the August 31, 2016 drawing. This General Order has played in 16.3% of the 43 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played and in 5.56% of all Powerball drawings.

Finally, the 2 1 1 1 0 1 Specific Order appeared for the second time. As of Saturday’s drawing, this Specific Order has played in 28.6% of the seven drawings where the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 4.65% of the 43 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played, and in 1.59% of all drawings. The 2 1 1 1 0 1 Specific Order made its debut earlier this year in the January 30, 2016 drawing.

With one more week until Christmas, and two weeks left in 2016, what does the rest of the year have in store? Will Lotto Texas and Powerball end the year with a bang, or will they be mellow?

Adding a Little Spice

As more cold air enters Lottery Trend country, Mega Millions heated up a bit in the December 6th drawing. Tuesday’s drawing not only gifted us with the most commonly seen Pattern, but a repeating Three-Number Combination!

Unlike the {2-1-1-1-1} in Powerball, the {2-1-1-1-1} in Mega Millions is in no danger of being upstaged anytime soon. With 130 appearances, this Pattern has appeared in 31.5% of the 327 drawings. The 130th appearance was made possible by winning numbers 13, 34, 48, 53, 63, and MB 12.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern previously played last month in the November 15th drawing.

The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order made its 30th appearance, its first since the November 4th, 2016 drawing. As of Tuesday, this General Order has appeared in 23.1% of the 130 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and 9.17% of the 327 drawings to date.

Next, the 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order played for the eighth time. With that said, this Specific Order has now appeared in approximately 26.7% of the 30 drawings where the [1-1-2-1-1] General order has played. The 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order has also appeared in 6.15% of the 130 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and in 2.45% of all Mega Millions drawings. Prior to Tuesday’s drawing, we last saw the 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order on October 28th, 2016.

Last, but certainly not least, we saw the Three-Number Combination 48, 53, and MB 12 make a repeat appearance.

This Combination made its debut in the November 8th, 2016 drawing.

What will Friday’s drawing have in store? Will a rarely-seen Pattern get to play, or will the {2-1-1-1-1} make an encore? Will we see another repeating Three-Number Combination?

A Not-So Quiet Thanksgiving Eve

The date: November 23, 2016. Thanksgiving Eve. Turkeys for deep frying were (hopefully) being thawed out, some people started camping overnight in front of stores, and bets were made as to which teams would win their football games. Meanwhile, there was an upset in the lottery world. Unlike the lull we saw in Mega Millions, we saw a few surprises in Lotto Texas and Powerball now has a true frontrunner for the title of Most Commonly Played Pattern.

Lotto Texas

Recall that in the November 19th drawing, we saw the {3-2-1} Pattern. If you played this on Wednesday, you were in luck! We saw an encore appearance of the {3-2-1} Pattern, bringing its total number of appearances to 728. This encore was brought to us by winning numbers 12, 16, 20, 21, 29, and 41.

Having played in 52.1% of the 1397 Lotto Texas drawings, the {3-2-1} is far and away the most commonly played Pattern.

The 2 3 1 Specific Order made its 120th appearance, its first since the November 2, 2016 drawing. This Specific Order has now played in 16.5% of the 728 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern played and in 8.59% of all 1397 drawings.

Our Lotto Texas coverage concludes with the analysis of not one, not two, but three Four-Number Combinations. Even more amazing is how these Combinations made their debut last decade! The Combinations were as follows:

  • 16, 21, 29, and 41 first played October 7, 2000,
  • 12, 16, 29, and 41 first played June 23, 2001, and
  • 12, 20, 29, and 41 first played December 23, 2000

Seeing the Combinations above was like receiving a visit from old relatives. Said relatives seemed to have gotten stuck in a time warp, debating on whether to buy the VHS or the DVD version of their favorite movies. A couple of them even argued over whether the millennium began in 2000 or 2001. Before we get caught in the time warp ourselves, let’s move on to Powerball.

Powerball

A while ago, there was a phenomenon we called the Powerball Pattern Tango. This involved the {2-2-1-1} and the {2-1-1-1-1} Patterns, which both seemed to be locked into a never-ending one-upmanship. One day, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was the most commonly seen Pattern. Another day, it was the {2-2-1-1} Pattern. Some days, their number of occurrences was tied.

Now, we can say that there is now a true front-runner to the title of Most Commonly Played Pattern. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the {2-1-1-1-1}. With 42 appearances, this Pattern is now the most commonly played. This was made possible with winning numbers 7, 32, 41, 47, 61, and PB 3.

Now with 42 appearances, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared in 35.3% of all 119 Powerball drawings. We last saw this Pattern in the November 9th drawing, which wasn’t that long ago.

The General Order of the evening was [1-2-1-1-1], making its tenth appearance. The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has now played in 23.8% of the 42 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and 8.40% of all Powerball drawings. This General Order, like the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, was last seen in the November 9th drawing.

Finally, we come to the 1 0 2 1 1 1 Specific Order making its second appearance. This Specific Order has now played in 20% of the ten drawings where the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played and 4.76% of the 42 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played. When looking at all 119 drawings, the 1 0 2 1 1 1 Specific Order has played 1.68% of the time. The 1 0 2 1 1 1 Specific Order made its debut in the December 30, 2015 drawing. Talk about a way to ring in the new year!

Now that we’re leaving Thanksgiving Land and entering The Christmas Zone, what presents will Lotto Texas and Powerball leave us in the weeks ahead?

Everything’s Cool Now

We’re halfway through November, and it looks like autumn has finally arrived for us in Lottery Trend country. As some sense of normality tries to break through in the “real world”, the November 15th Mega Millions drawing was about as “normal” as you could get.

For starters, we saw the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, thanks to winning numbers 9, 17, 23, 57, 71, and MB 6. With 129 appearances, the {2-1-1-1-1} is the most commonly played Pattern by a healthy margin.

Winning Mega Millions numbers from lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

With that said, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played in 40.2% of the 321 Mega Millions drawings to date. This Pattern was previously seen earlier this month in the November 4th drawing.

The General Order of the evening was [1-2-1-1-1], making its 39th appearance. As of Tuesday night, this General Order has appeared in 30.2% of the drawings that the {2-1-1-1-1} has played. When taking all 321 drawings into account, we see that the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played 12.1% of the time. Prior to Tuesday, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order was previously seen in the October 21st, 2016 drawing.

We conclude our coverage with the eighth appearance of the 1 2 0 1 1 1 Specific Order. This Specific Order has now played in 20.5% of the drawings where the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has appeared. When looking at the 129 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, this becomes 6.20% of the time. The total percentage, when taking all 321 drawings into account, is 2.49%. To see when the 1 2 0 1 1 1 Specific Order previously played, we need to go back to the September 27th, 2016 drawing.

As we head to the weekend and (US) Thanksgiving preparations get underway, will Mega Millions continue to give off a sense of “normality”, or will there be a surprise?

A Balance in the Force

After the Earth-shattering results of the U.S. election and the rumblings in Mega Millions, we entered calmer waters on November 9th. That is, if seeing repeating Four-Number Combinations, one of which hadn’t been seen since last decade, could be considered calm.

Lotto Texas

For starters, Lotto Texas saw the not-so-common {3-3} Pattern make its 117th appearance. Wednesday’s winning numbers were 2, 9, 18, 42, 51, and 52.

Winning Texas Lotto numbers. From lotterytrend.com.

The {3-3} Pattern has played in 8.40% of the 1393 drawings that have taken place so far. This Pattern was last seen a few weeks ago in the October 22nd, 2016 drawing.

The Specific Order of the evening was 3 0 3, making its 40th appearance. Out of the 117 times the {3-3} Pattern has played, the 3 0 3 Specific Order has played 34.2% of the time. When taking all 1393 drawings into account, this frequency whittles down to 2.87%. We last saw this Specific Order in the August 10th, 2016 drawing.

One highlight of the evening was the repeat occurrence of the following Four-Number Combinations:

  • 2, 9, 42, and 52, which first played way back on January 25th, 2003
  • 18, 42, 51, and 52, which first played March 5th, 2014 and
  • 2, 18, 51, and 52, which first played August 25th, 2010.

Powerball

What we saw in Powerball could end up putting the kibosh on the Powerball Pattern Tango, at least for the time being. The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, having previously played in Saturday’s drawing, made an encore appearance. Now coming in with 41 appearances, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern holds on to its title as Most Commonly Played Powerball Pattern. This encore was thanks to winning numbers 1, 25, 28, 31, 54, and PB 2.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared in 35.7% of the 115 Powerball drawings.

The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order made it is ninth appearance, its first since the October 5th, 2016 drawing. Of the 41 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played 22% of the time. When taking all 115 drawings into account, this Pattern has played 7.83% of the time.

Finally, we come to the 1 2 1 1 0 1 Specific Order, which made its second appearance. In the 9 drawings where the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order appeared, the 1 2 1 1 0 1 Specific Order has played 22.2% of the time. This becomes 4.88% when looking at the 41 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern appeared, and 1.74% of all 115 drawings.  The 1 2 1 1 0 1 Specific Order made its debut in the April 16th, 2016 drawing.

Will the {3-3} Pattern be bold enough to make an encore appearance in Lotto Texas Saturday? Has the Powerball Pattern Tango finally come to an end?

On Familiar Ground

Compared to what we’ve seen for the past few drawings, Lotto Texas and Powerball saw a cool-down on November 5th. How much of a cool-down? Let’s just say that what we saw was *very* common, Pattern-wise, at least.

Lotto Texas

The {3-2-1} Pattern made an encore appearance Saturday, bringing its total number of appearances to 725.The winning numbers were 4, 27, 30, 38, 47, and 49.

Out of the 1392 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played 52.1% of the time, and holds the title of Most Commonly Played Pattern with no competition. Recall that we last saw this Pattern in Wednesday’s drawing.

The 1 2 3 Specific Order made its 135th appearance, its first since the October 19th, 2016 drawing. This Specific Order has played in 18.6% of the 725 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. When we look at all 1392 drawings, this becomes 9.70% of the time.

Powerball

The {2-1-1-1-1} made its 40th appearance, its first since the October 22nd, 2016 drawing. This was thanks to winning numbers 21, 31, 50, 51, 69, and PB 8.

This Pattern has played in 35.1% of the 114 drawings and has once again reclaimed the title of Most Commonly Played Pattern in Powerball.  Whether this is just the rumblings of another Powerball Pattern Tango is anyone’s guess.

Moving on to the General Order, we saw [1-1-2-1-1] make its ninth appearance, the first since the September 17th, 2016 drawing. The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order has played in 22.5% of the 40 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. This becomes 7.89% of the time when we take all 114 drawings into account.

The most stand-out feature of the evening was the debut of the 0 1 1 2 1 1 Specific Order. This Specific Order has now played in 11.1% of the drawings where [1-1-2-1-1] was the General Order of the evening.
