July 14^th was a national holiday – in France. It was on that date in 1789 that revolutionaries stormed a medieval armory/political prison known as the Bastille. A symbol of the tyrannical monarchy, the storming triggered the start of the French Revolution. As to be expected, Bastille Day, or Fête Nationale (“National Celebration”)/Le 14 Juillet (“The 14^th of July”), is a grand occasion. Military parades, concerts, and of course, fireworks are in order.

Summer is coming, which means rising temperatures are ahead. Although we like to kick things off with Memorial Day, the true start of the season is on the Summer Solstice, which falls on either June 20^th or the 21^st in the Northern Hemisphere.
