April is almost over. Easter and Passover have come and gone, and Tax Day is in the rear-view mirror. The unicorn hype has died down (for now?) and summer is right around the corner. To commemorate this occasion, Mega Millions took it easy April 25th, with no repeating Three-Number Combinations or major plays.
The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 111th appearance, with winning numbers 3, 13, 33, 40, 50, and MB 2.

This Pattern has now played in approximately 30.2% of the 367 Mega Millions drawings. Prior to Tuesday, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern was last seen in the April 14, 2017 drawing.
Next, the [2-2-1-1] General Order made its 40th appearance. This General Order has played in 36.03% of the 111 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared. When looking at all 367 drawings, the [2-2-1-1] General Order has played 10.9% of the time. Like the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, the [2-2-1-1] General Order was also last seen in the April 14th drawing.
The quiet night concluded with the sixth appearance of the 202101 Specific Order. As of Tuesday, this Specific Order has played in 15% of the 40 drawings where the [2-2-1-1] General Order has appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 5.41% of the 111 drawing where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern appeared and in 1.63% of all drawings. To see when the 202101 Specific Order previously played, we need to look at the July 26th, 2016 drawing, which played exactly nine months prior.
With one more drawing before the month closes out, will Mega Millions see a repeating Three-Number Combination or a rare Pattern?
There have been, ahem, unicorn sightings on Instagram and other social media outlets. Of course, I’m talking about the Unicorn Frappuccino, the brightly-colored drink that has sent baristas into rages and has been called, in some circles, “Diabetes in a cup”.

No, I was unable to catch this unicorn; it sold out in a matter of hours. But, there was a unicorn sighting, of sorts, in April 21st’s Mega Millions drawing. It isn’t often that the Pattern and the General Order and the Specific Order were last seen together on the same date!
Unlike the {3-2-1} Pattern in Lotto Texas, the {3-2-1} Pattern isn’t commonly seen in Mega Millions. Friday night’s winning numbers were 1, 12, 13, 32, 34, and MB 10.

With 23 appearances, this Pattern has now played in 6.28% of the 366 drawings.
Making its 11th appearance, the [3-2-1] General Order has played in 47.8% of the 23 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has appeared. This General Order has also appeared in 3.01% of all 366 drawings.
Finally, the 302001 Specific Order made its second appearance. This Specific Order has now played in approximately 18.2% of the 11 drawings where the [3-2-1] Pattern has appeared, 8.70% of the 23 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 0.55% of all Mega Millions drawings.
Tuesday, that day that’s one less to worry about before Friday, and of course, one of the nights when a Mega Millions drawing takes place. Speaking of which, there were no Pattern encores the night of April 18, 2017, nor did any Specific Orders make their debut. Nonetheless, there were a couple of developments that caught the attention of this blog. One such development was the appearance of two repeating Three-Number Combinations. The other development wasn’t so obvious.
The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern remained the most commonly seen Pattern, with Tuesday night’s drawing bringing the number of appearances up to 149. The winning numbers were 8, 29, 30, 43, 64, and MB 6.
Having now made 44 appearances, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played in 29.5% of the 149 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared. This statistic becomes 12.1% when looking at all 365 drawings. The [1-2-1-1-1] played alongside the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern in the April 7th drawing described earlier.
The 121011 Specific Order made its 10th appearance, meaning it has now played in 22.7% of the 44 drawings where the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 6.71% of the 149 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 2.74% of all 365 drawings. Date-wise, this Specific Order did not play alongside the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern and the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order. Prior to Tuesday, the last time the 121011 Specific Order played was in the February 21, 2017 drawing.

Happy Easter, Lottery Binge readers! In the last Mega Millions post, there were no major upsets or big plays to be had. The April 14th drawing continued the trend of a quiet evening. Like Tuesday’s drawing, there were no new Specific Orders or rare Patterns. In one respect, Friday’s drawing was even more low-key; there were no repeating Three-Number Combinations.
The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 110th appearance, with winning numbers 5, 10, 55, 60, 73, and MB 12.
The General Order of the evening was [2-2-1-1]. Now with 39 appearances, this General Order has appeared in 35.5% of the 110 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared. In addition, this General Order has played in 10.7% of all drawings. The [2-2-1-1] General Order previously played in the February 3rd, 2017 drawing.
Next is the 200211 Specific Order, making its fifth appearance. This Specific Order has now played in 12.8% of the 39 drawings where the [2-2-1-1] General Order appeared, and 4.55% of the 110 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared. When taking all 364 drawings into account, this statistic becomes 1.37%. To see when the 200211 Specific Order previously played, we need to go back to the June 24th, 2016 drawing, which was nearly 10 months ago.
As we look to the week ahead, will there be new Specific Orders? Will an Australia Play surface?
April 11th was mostly quiet. No new Specific Order made a debut, and neither the Pattern nor General Order were rare sights. These three did share one thing in common: they were all previously seen at the end of this past March. There was something in the Mega Millions drawing that kept the night from being completely quiet and that was the repeat appearances of three Three-Number Combinations!
First in the Lottery Binge Mega Millions analysis is the {3-1-1-1} Pattern, making its 59th appearance. The winning numbers were 19, 34, 35, 38 49, and MB 8.

This Pattern has now played in approximately 16.3% of the 363 Mega Millions drawings. We last saw this Pattern in the March 31st drawing.
The [1-3-1-1] General Order made its 17th appearance, its first since the March 28th drawing. With that said, this General Order has played in 28.8% of the 59 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played. This General Order has also played in 4.68% of all drawings.
Next is the 013101Specific Order, making its sixth appearance. This means that it has now played in 35.3% of the 17 drawings where the [1-3-1-1] General Order has appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 10.2% of the 59 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 1.65% of all Mega Millions drawings thus far. Like the [1-3-1-1] General Order, the 013101Specific Order previously played on March 28th.
And now for The Big Reveal. These were the Three-Number Combinations that made a repeat performance:

Mega Millions, a Friday night ritual for millions of people. Lotteries and rituals are similar in that repetition is king. Now and then, a Specific Order will make its debut in Mega Millions, but that doesn’t happen often. How repetitious was the April 7, 2017 drawing? For starters, Tuesday’s winning Pattern made an encore appearance, and there was a repeating Three-Number Combination.
The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made its 148th appearance, with winning numbers 30, 33, 43, 47, 69, and MB 15.

This Pattern has played in 40.9% of the 362 drawings Mega Millions has had to date.
Moving on, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order made its 43rd appearance, its first since the March 10, 2017 drawing. With that said, this General Order has now played in approximately 29.1% of the 148 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 11.9% of all Mega Millions drawings.
The 012111 Specific Order made its 7th appearance, and like the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order, it also previously played in the March 10th drawing. This Specific Order has now played in 16.3% of the 43 drawings where the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 4.73% of the 148 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and 1.93% of all drawings.

The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order made its 34th appearance, its first since the February 24, 2017 drawing. This General Order has now played in 23.1% of the 147 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared. The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order has also played in 9.42% of all 361 drawings.
Next in our recap is the 112101 Specific Order, which made its 11th appearance. This Specific Order has now played in 32.4% of the 34 drawings where the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order appeared, 7.48% of the 147 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern appeared, and 3.05% of all Mega Millions drawings. To see when the 112101 Specific Order previously played, we need to go back near the beginning of the year, January 10, 2017 to be precise.

And now, I’m going to take some time to talk about my trip.
On March 19th, I left on a 14-hour flight from Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston bound for Narita in Tokyo.
Just before leaving Houston.
There were two purposes to my trip: to partake in the sights and to see my cousin, who is currently stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa. Our first week was in Tokyo, and our second week was in Okinawa.
Tokyo
I met up with my cousin at Narita and we made our way to the Granbell Hotel Shinjuku via rail, subway, and taxi. Our rooms were small, but the most important thing was that they were clean! The shower had hot water every day and the beds were comfortable.

In addition to walking, the subway/rail system was our main method of transportation. Tokyo was the first time either of us had ever used a subway but we got the hang of it. Whenever we got lost or turned around, there were always people available to help us.
One aspect I truly liked about Tokyo was how the parks and the shrines provided sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city. I found Ikebukuro and Ueno to be more laid back than Shinjuku and Akihabara! Ueno Park is where we found a lone cherry tree in full bloom. The other trees in the park either hadn’t sprouted yet, or were in the middle of such. I can only imagine what the park looks like now!

For our readers who have never been to Tokyo, here are some tips:
Buy either (a) a PASMO card or (b) a ticket that grants you access on the Toei and Tokyo Metro subways/trains. Which option you choose is based on the number of days you’re spending in Tokyo. Since we only stayed for five days, we spent ¥1000 each day, or roughly $9.
The subways stop running at midnight.
If you must catch the subway during rush hour, try to aim for a car that has fewer people.
If you plan to visit other parts of Japan, buy a JR Rail Pass. We didn’t need one since we stayed in Tokyo the first week. Also, the JR Pass is useless in Okinawa.
There will be a lot of walking and standing. Strengthen those legs and don’t forget to stretch before leaving your hotel room!
If you visit in winter/early spring, wear layers. The high rises create wind tunnels, and it will feel at least 5 degrees (Fahrenheit) colder.
The Sony Building in Ginza is in the process of being replaced by a park, which shall be named Sony Park.
Some vending machines will have soda or water in them, while others will have beer, coffee, tea, or even cigarettes. Vending machines are also on just about every corner.

Okinawa
For the second week, we flew from Narita to Naha and bunked at Kadena Air Base.
As a guest, I needed a pass to show that I belonged on site, and my cousin served as my escort whenever we were on base. Off-base, we partook in the wonders of steak ramen (Stripe) and Coco Curry House.
Shuri Castle provided an interesting lesson on the history of the Ryukyu Kingdom (Okinawa is part of the Ryukyu Islands). One of the most breathtaking sites from the castle was looking out and seeing a bit of the East China Sea. We got a close-up when we went to the Sunabe sea wall.

Houston is notorious for its hot and muggy summers, and I got word from my cousin that the summers in Kadena are worse. The mountains block any breeze from the sea from reaching inland. I can only imagine how popular the Sunabe sea wall and the beaches are in the summer months!
Kokusai Dori is a strip full of stores and off-beat shops. One such shop allows you to pet owls and, if you pay a little extra, get to hold one!

The Southeast Botanical Gardens had a variety of plants and animals, and provided a sense of serenity.
When my cousin wasn’t showing me around Okinawa, we’d binge-watch Game of Thrones. Prior to my trip, I had read the first three books, but never watched the show. Let’s just say I’m hooked on the show, and I need to watch seasons 5 and 6 before the next season starts!
Okinawa in general is more laid back than Tokyo, and seeing people drive just about everywhere reminded me of home. Speaking of home, March 30th was when I had bid sayonara to Japan. There were a couple of things I was going to miss:

Melon Fanta (pictured)– I had my first taste of it from a 500 mL bottle I bought at a 7-11 in Tokyo. The result? I started ordering it with just about every meal. It goes great with steak ramen! This drink isn’t available Stateside.
Kit Kats – Yes, Kit Kats are available in the States, but Japanese Kit Kats have a special je n’ais se quoi about them. They come in a variety of flavors, some of which are specific to a region. The beni-imo, or purple sweet potato flavor, is exclusive to Okinawa. Other flavors I had were matcha green tea and wasabi flavor.
Fun fact: “Kit Kat” sounds a lot like きっと 勝つ (kitto katsu), which translated means “You’ll surely win”. It’s not uncommon for students to eat them before a test. I wouldn’t be at all shocked if some of our Japanese readers munch on a Kit Kat or two before picking numbers!
