That Time When There Was Nearly a Playback Encore

Mega Millions may have felt the urge to roll out a playback this past Tuesday night. However, that itch wasn’t scratched, at least not completely. There were two encores, enough to help boost the jackpot to $266 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The first encore, or rather three-peat, came from the {2-2-1-1} Pattern! With winning numbers 7, 16, 27, 44, 52 and MB 5, the May 12, 2020 drawing saw the 158th appearance of this Pattern.

Given that there have now been 566 Mega Millions drawings, this Pattern has played 27.9% of the time.

The [1-2-2-1] General Order joined the {2-2-1-1} Pattern on the repeat appearance train! Having now played 57 times, this General Order has played in 36.1% of the 158 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 566 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 10.1% of the time.

Prior to Tuesday night, both the {2-2-1-1} Pattern and the [1-2-2-1] General Order played May 8, 2020.

Now with six appearances, the 1 2 0 2 0 1 Specific Order has played in 10.5% of the 57 drawings where the General Order was [1-2-2-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 3.80% of the 158 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 1.06% of all 566 drawings. We last saw the 1 2 0 2 0 1 Specific Order December 14, 2018.

With a three-peat under its belt, is the {2-2-1-1} Pattern setting up for a streak?

The Pattern Streak Double Strikedown

Lotto Texas and Powerball have acted like a playground clique these days. They play together, so it’s expected that they’ll copy each other, or even be in sync with each other now and again. Lately, both lotteries have been in the grip of streaks with their most common Patterns.

On May 9, 2020, the Pattern streaks came to an end. Both the {3-2-1} Pattern and the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streaks were struck down with Australia Plays. That is, the Pattern, General Order (applicable to Powerball only) and the Specific Order were the same. This interesting turn of events kept the jackpots climbing. Lotto Texas rose to $15.25 million and Powerball rose to $77 million.

The Australia Play has occurred in 5.625% of the 480 Powerball drawings, and was last seen October 9, 2019.

Three-Number Combination(s)

Three-Number Combinations were not part of the agenda Saturday night.

The Pattern streaks may be over, but the prizes continue their march ever upward. Will the jackpots continue to climb, or will at least one of them be struck down next week?

Back in the Encore Game

Mega Millions did it! Sure, it took eight days and three drawings, but a Pattern encore showed up on the radar. The encore provided an opportunity to set up for another Pattern streak. Additionally, it had no denting effect on the jackpot. With no one able to pick all six numbers, the prize climbed to $248 million.

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 5, 20, 22, 61, 70 and MB 4, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore of May 8, 2020 was possible. This Pattern has now played 157 times.

As promising as the {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore was, nothing is promised in Mega Millions. The current Pattern streaks in Lotto Texas and Powerball are with their most commonly seen Patterns. Of course, we’ve seen Pattern encores and three-peats from Patterns we never expected! We’ll need to keep an eye out for the {2-2-1-1} Pattern and see if it makes that three-peat appearance Tuesday night.

May the Pattern Streaks Be With You

Love it or hate it, Star Wars has had lasting appeal. Movies, toys, spin-offs, cartoons and more have kept the franchise in our collective conscious for at least four decades.

What does Star Wars have to do with today’s post, you ask? Aside from the title being a (late) nod to Star Wars Day, lotteries, too, have that appeal. Striking it big just by picking the six winning numbers. What’s not to love about that? Except, it’s not as easy as it sounds, and lotteries have a way of thwarting players, and the most appealing method depends on a lottery’s mood.

On May 6, 2020, we saw that Pattern streaks were very appealing to both Lotto Texas and Powerball! As their flaming hot streaks continued, their jackpots rose to $15 million and $68 million, respectively.

May Mega Millions Grow Ever Larger

Cinco de Mayo, like St. Patrick’s Day, is a holiday that’s bigger in the United States than in its country of origin (Mexico and Ireland, respectively). Large celebrations that may or may not involve tacos, but a lot of drinking, are a highlight. This year, Cinco de Mayo coincided with a Mega Millions drawing!

Although Mega Millions didn’t start the month with a Pattern three-peat, and this past Tuesday night was “encoreless”, this lottery continued to have the largest jackpot out of The Big Three. If you recall, these are Lotto Texas, Powerball, and Mega Millions, the star of today’s post. A lack of grand prize winners meant more money to be won in a future drawing. The jackpot grew to $231 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The May 5, 2020 Mega Millions drawings saw the 156th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, with winning numbers 7, 13, 17, 21, 45 and MB 14.

Will Friday night see an encore from the {2-2-1-1} Pattern?

Some Streaks are Stronger Than Others

Lotto Texas, Mega Millions and Powerball. One of these lotteries was not like the others these past couple of days. During that time, we saw appearances from the most commonly seen Patterns, solidifying the streak in one lottery and setting one up for the other. Those lotteries also saw their jackpots rise to $14.25 million and $59 million.

Those lotteries were Lotto Texas and Powerball, respectively.

“May”-king Way for Another Pattern

There was a change in the Mega Millions Pattern roster. The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was not only the last to play in April, this appearance had the distinction of being an encore. Given this Pattern’s past with streaks, a three-peat to kick off May wouldn’t have been unusual.

Alas, another Pattern pushed the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern aside. This bold move was just one of two big events May 1, 2020. The other was a Pattern encore. With no grand prize winners, the jackpot rose to $215 million.

The End-of-April Encore Doubleheader

In yesterday’s blog post, we analyzed the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore in Mega Millions, and the resulting aftermath. Apparently, the urge to end the month with an encore, and with the most commonly seen Pattern no less, was contagious! Not only did Lotto Texas and Powerball end April with Pattern encores, one such encore was a three-peat! With no grand prize winners to be had, the jackpot for Lotto Texas rose to $13.75 million. Powerball, now used to its “slimmer” state, saw its jackpot rise to $51 million.

An Encore Worth 200 Million Cheers

Can you believe that we’re nearly one-third of the way into 2020? As wild as the year has been so far, it made sense that Mega Millions decided to end April in a powerful, yet low-key way. This past Tuesday hosted the final Mega Millions drawing for the month. This lottery bid farewell with a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore and a jackpot that climbed to an even $200 million.

Pushing Ever Upward

Lotteries are resilient beasts. Little if anything can stop them and their jackpots grow wherever there’s an open space. Only having at least one player choose all six winning numbers acts as a wall to uncontrollable growth.

April 25, 2020 was a testament to that resilient nature. With no grand prize winners, the jackpots naturally continued their climb. Lotto Texas, ever dignified, rose to $13.25 million. Meanwhile, Powerball rose to $43 million.
