Seeing Double

It’s not often that the same Pattern plays across two lotteries at once! Both Lotto Texas and Powerball saw the same Pattern on March 10, 2018. But, due to the nature of each lottery, this was where all similarities ended. Our analysis showed them going onto wildly divergent paths.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

The {3-2-1} Pattern, with winning numbers 5, 15, 27, 32, 36, and 46, has now played 796 times.

Given that there have been 1532 Lotto Texas drawings, this Pattern has played in about 52% of them. Prior to Saturday night, this {3-2-1} Pattern was seen on February 21, 2018.

Now with 130 appearances, the 2 3 1 Specific Order has played in 16.3% of the 796 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. This Specific Order has also played in 8.49% of all 1532 drawings and was last seen at the beginning of the year. More specifically, the January 3, 2018 drawing.

Four-Number Combination(s)

There were also two repeating Four-Number Combinations:

  • 15, 27, 36, 46 (Debuted May 8, 2002)
  • 5, 15, 27, 36 (Debuted March 22, 2017)

The {3-2-1} Pattern is the most commonly seen Pattern in Lotto Texas. This isn’t the case in Powerball.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

Unlike Lotto Texas, the {3-2-1} Pattern in Powerball is one of the least commonly seen Patterns. Its 16th appearance was thanks to winning numbers 43, 44, 54, 61, 69, and PB 22.

One highlight of the evening was the debut of the 0 0 0 3 2 1 Specific Order. This General Order has played in roughly 16.7% of the six drawings where the General Order was [3-2-1], and in 6.25% of the 16 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. This Specific Order has played in 0.39% of all 254 drawings.

Will either, or both, of these {3-2-1} Patterns make an encore in Wednesday’s drawing?

Another Round of Meat Pie

Meat pie!? What does that have to do with lottery analysis? It just so happened that March 7th saw another Australia Play. That, and there’s more to Australian cuisine than Vegemite. As one lottery saw the ultimate playback Wednesday night, another was this close to hopping on the Playback Express.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

Having just recently played this past Saturday, the Australia Play came back for an encore. This time, the winning numbers were 9, 16, 25, 32, 41, and 44.

Will Saturday’s drawing have another Australia Play?

Bounded Together

Lotto Texas and Powerball are stuck together. That’s just the way it is. Every Wednesday and Saturday, they do their thing, and we do our thing by bringing you analysis. Last summer, we saw that these lotteries can be stuck together in other ways. March 3rd saw a shade of that.

Will the {2-2-2} Pattern and {2-2-1-1} Pattern make an encore together in Wednesday’s drawing?

Play That Back

Lotto Texas and Powerball had the honor of playing on February 28, 2018. The month ended with one word: “playback”. In fact, our February analysis for Lotto Texas and Powerball kicked off with not one playback, but two. Which lottery, or lotteries, ended the month the way it started?

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

Wednesday’s winning numbers were 1, 5, 18, 39, 45, and 52, bringing the number of appearances of the {3-3} Pattern up to 129.

A playback could be here, somewhere. Source: lotterytrend.com.

Given that there have been 1529 Lotto Texas drawings, this Pattern has played 8.44% of the time. We last saw this Pattern in the December 27, 2017 drawing.

The 3 0 3 Specific Order, now with 50 appearances, has played in 38.8% of the 129 drawings where {3-3} was the winning Pattern. And, it was seen alongside the {3-3} Pattern in the earlier-mentioned December 27th drawing. When looking at all 1529 drawings, this Specific Order has played 3.27% of the time.

Before moving on to the repeating Four-Number Combination(s) coverage, we would like to point out the Specific Order. Note that even though Lotto Texas saw a playback, it did not see an Australia Play. The 3 0 3 Specific Order was not the only one that could have played.

Four-Number Combination(s)

The repeating Four-Number Combinations of the evening were

  • 1, 18, 45, 52 (Debuted August 18, 2001)
  • 5, 18, 45, 52 (Debuted April 30, 2003)

Although neither went as far as what we saw last time, a near seventeen-year gap is impressive. Was Powerball also bit by the playback bug?

Did the Specific Order allow for a playback in Powerball, too?

This Specific Order has also played in 3.85% of the 52 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Will March see more playback madness?

Bouncing Through a Time Warp

Saturdays wield the power of nostalgia. Be it Saturday morning cartoons, hanging out at the mall, or just sleeping in, there’s something about that day that makes the urge to reminisce hard to suppress. As is the nature of Lottery Binge, we cover past lotteries—the past can be from just a few days ago to a time when Blockbuster Video was where you rented movies and video games. February 24, 2018 was a night when the past truly took over.

Powerball’s journey didn’t go as far back, but it was a trip back in time nonetheless.

Three-Number Combination(s)

There weren’t any repeating Three-Number Combinations this time.

Lotto Texas and Powerball will have the honor of bidding February adieu. Will either the Australia Play or the {2-2-1-1} Pattern make an encore? Will there be another trip back to the “distant” past?

A Pattern’s Icy Grip

In the nearly two years Lottery Binge has been online, one of our favorite things to cover is the Pattern streak. These occur when a Pattern has played at least three consecutive times. Three or four consecutive appearances seems to be the norm, but there have been cases of five or even six appearances.

Although the biggest ones we’ve covered occurred during the summers of 2016 and 2017, February 21st reminded us that these streaks can happen at any time.

Will Saturday night be big, or will there be a slump?

Going In for the Encore

One thing about the weekend is that Friday night is just the practice round, right? Friday nights are party nights, sure, but not like Saturday nights. After all, that’s the true heart of the weekend, isn’t it?

Well, it turned out not to be the case this time in Lottery World.

February 9th and 10th were far different beasts. For those of you who follow Mega Millions, you were certainly in for a treat this past Friday. As for Lotto Texas and Powerball? Saturday night was much quieter. The big events of the evening were a Pattern encore and a repeating Combination.

May We See Your Combinations, Mega Millions?

Mardi Gras (“Fat Tuesday”) season is in full swing. It’s a time of grand parties, flashiness, King Cake, and bingeing. Of course, Mega Millions wanted in on the festivities. After all, it’s no stranger to being flashy. Pattern streaks, playbacks, and the similar spread are just a few tools in its arsenal. Not only was there a similar spread, there was a repeating Four-Number Combination as well. That was not a typo. With this insane mishmash of (repeating) Combinations and a similar spread, we can say without hesitation that February 9, 2018 was one of the grandest nights we’ve analyzed.

General Lottery Analysis

This Specific Order has also appeared in 6.38% of the 94 drawings where the winning Pattern was {2-2-1-1}. Finally, when taking all 331 drawings into account, this Specific Order has played 1.81% of the time. The 0 1 2 2 0 1 Specific Order previously played in the October 6, 2017 drawing. This was reconfigured from the 0 1 3 1 0 1 Specific Order seen that night.

Spread ‘Em

A similar spread happens when the numbers in the spreads are the same, but the orders are different. The spread for Friday night’s numbers are 06:07:05:01. This is similar to the spread that occurred in the May 12, 2017 drawing. That night, the winning numbers were 28, 34, 41, 42, 47, and MB 13, and the spread was 06:07:01:05.

Four-Number Combination(s)

Repeating Four-Number Combinations aren’t all that common in Mega Millions. The lone Combination was 28, 34, 41, and 47.

This made its debut in the May 12, 2017 drawing.

Three Number Combination(s)

The thing about repeating Four-Number Combinations is that there are repeating Three-Number Combinations rolled up inside. Four of them to be precise:

  • 28, 34, 41
  • 28, 34, 47
  • 34, 41, 47
  • 28, 41, 47

These four Combinations debuted alongside “mother” Combination 28, 34, 41, and 47 in the May 12th drawing mentioned earlier.

These weren’t the only repeating Three-Number Combinations of the evening!

The real Mardi Gras is this coming Tuesday. Will Mega Millions keep the momentum going?
