Encore. Three-peat. Four-peat. What do these words have in common? They scream “back-to-back”, that’s what! November 8^th was a good night for those who love seeing Pattern encores. How good?

In our last Lotto Texas/Powerball post, we mentioned the latter’s love of repetition. It was so fond of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern that it played for the third time in a row. This time, the winning numbers were 12, 14, 20, 21, 34, and PB 22.

The [2-2-1-1] General Order made its 25^th appearance. It has now played in 37.3% of the 67 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared. This statistic becomes 11.4% when looking at all 219 drawings. Prior to Wednesday night, this General Order was last seen November 1^st, 2017.

Now with four appearances, the 2 2 1 0 0 1 Specific Order has played in 16% of the 25 drawings where the [2-2-1-1] General Order appeared. When looking at the 67 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern appeared, the statistic becomes 5.97%. Daylight Savings Time ended in the U.S. and Canada earlier this morning. Hope everyone set their clocks back one hour!

Lottery-wise, it appeared Lotto Texas stole the show Saturday night. Powerball may not have been “in-your-face” with action, but it didn’t let Lotto Texas have all the fun. In fact, Powerball was quite fond of repetition. Pattern-wise.

Right off the heels of Wednesday’s drawing, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 66^th appearance. The winning numbers were 12, 14, 26, 48, 51, and PB 13.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 22^nd appearance, and has now played in 33.3% of the 66 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared. It has also appeared in 10.1% of all 218 drawings. Unlike the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, this General Order did not make an encore appearance. We last saw it in the October 14, 2017 drawing.

Now with three appearances, the 2 1 0 2 0 1 Specific Order has played in 13.6% of the 22 drawings where the [2-1-2-1] General Order has appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 4.55% of the 66 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared. Finally, it also played in 1.38% of all 218 drawings. October 28, 2017 was a good night for Netflix, nail-biting World Series games, and lottery. For those of you who enjoy playbacks, Saturday was your night! We saw a playback in Lotto Texas. Powerball was close, but a playback wasn’t meant to be. However, the Specific Order played for the first time in over a year. Which Pattern led the way to a playback in Lotto Texas, and what was that Powerball Specific Order?

“The more things change, the more they stay the same,” as they say. What does this have to do with playing the lottery, you ask? The numbers that play in any given drawing will change, that’s a given. But, there are times where a few things, oh, say a Pattern, will remain the same. Make that two Patterns. On October 25^th, both Lotto Texas and Powerball saw encores for their respective Patterns.

And how fitting that as the drawings happened, the Astros would go on to tie the World Series!

Dodging an Encore

October 24, 2017 was a big night. The Dodgers defeated the Astros in Game 1 of the World Series, and the {3-1-1-1} Pattern didn’t make an encore. The Specific Order was also last seen sometime this year. But, there was a phenomenon that doesn’t happen often in Mega Millions. See if you can guess what it is without scrolling through the post.

Did you know that when the 14^th falls on a Saturday, the chances of wild and crazy things happening goes up?

A Playback and a Storm of (Repeating) Combinations

True to the spirit of Saturday nights, October 7, 2017 was in the throes of parties. Number parties, that is. Lotto Texas saw a three-peat and Powerball? Powerball saw a repeating Four-Number Combination for the first time in seven weeks.

Right off the heels of Tuesday’s drawing, the {3-2-1} Pattern ruled the night. Saturday night’s winning numbers were 2, 12, 28, 31, 32, and 42, bringing the total number of appearances to 775.

This Pattern has played in 52.1% of the 1488 drawings.

The 2 3 1 Specific Order has appeared in 128 drawings, and has played in 16.5% of the 775 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 8.60% of all 1488 drawings. Lately, it appears that this Specific Order is joined at the hip with the {3-2-1} Pattern, as it too was caught in the throes of a three-peat.

Contrary to popular expectations, there were no repeating Four-Number Combinations here. As we hinted at earlier, that happened in Powerball.

For those of you who’ve been following Lottery Binge, you know the rule. First the general analysis, and then the Combinations. Ahem.

The {3-1-1-1} Pattern made its 40^th appearance, with winning numbers 10, 49, 61, 63, 65, and PB 7.

This Pattern has played in roughly 19% of the 210 Powerball drawings, and was last seen about a couple of weeks ago. More specifically, in the September 23, 2017 drawing.

Now with 18 appearances, the [1-1-3-1] General Order has played in 45% of the 40 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared. And, this General Order has played in 8.57% of all 210 drawings. This General Order is not an encore appearance. To see when this General Order previously played, we need to go back to July 15, 2017.

Making its fourth appearance, the 1 0 0 1 3 1 Specific Order has played in 22.2% of the 18 drawings where the [1-1-3-1] General Order has appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 10% of the 40 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 1.90% of all 210 drawings. And, like the [1-1-3-1] Specific Order, we need to go back to an earlier date to see when the 1 0 0 1 3 1 Specific Order previously played. With seventy-five percent of the year gone, the holiday season is right around the corner, and it’s never too early to get a head start on the Christmas shopping list, right? Mega Millions was never one to pass up big plays. Instead of playing an extremely rare Pattern, or even a {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore, another route was taken. For those of you who get a kick out of repeating Three-Number Combinations, September 29^th was your night! Friday saw a whopping six, count ‘em six repeating Three-Number Combinations. What triggered such a large number? We’ll get to that in a minute, but first, this general Mega Millions analysis.

The {3-1-1-1} Pattern made its 68^th appearance, with winning numbers 25, 51, 62, 73, 74, and MB 7.

This Pattern has now played in 16.5% of the 412 drawings and was last seen earlier in the month. More specifically, in the September 8^th drawing.

Now with 26 appearances, the [1-1-3-1] General Order has played in 38.2% of the 68 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 6.31% of all 412 drawings. Prior to Friday night, this General Order played in the August 22^nd, 2017 drawing.

Making its third-ever appearance was the 0 1 0 0 1 3 1 Specific Order. This has now played in 11.5% of the 26 drawings where the [1-1-3-1] General Order has appeared, and in 4.41% of the 68 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 0.73% of all 412 drawings, and previously played on June 13^th, 2017.

And now for the repeating Combinations bonanza. Part of what made this night so full of repeating Combinations was that there was a repeating Four-Number Combination. Repeating Four-Number Combinations are no stranger to Lotto Texas, but in Mega Millions, they don’t come by very often. This Combination was 25, 62, 74, and MB 7.

Of course, with a repeating Four-Number Combination, there are four repeating Three-Number Combinations nestled within:

These Combinations, and of course, the “mother” Four-Number Combination, made their debut in the December 29^th, 2015 drawing.

These weren’t the only Combinations of the evening. In fact, there were two more repeating Three-Number Combinations:
