A Thanksgiving Lull

‘Twas two nights before Thanksgiving and all through the land

Preparations began so things wouldn’t get out of hand.

Meat was prepped for smoking and roasting

While Mega Millions saw no need for boasting.

The Pattern and General Order saw nothing new

But a Specific Order made its debut!

The November 22nd drawing saw the 98th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, thanks to winning numbers 1, 43, 45, 66, 69, and MB 7.

As of Tuesday, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played in 30.3% of the 323 Mega Millions drawings. We previously saw this Pattern a little over a month ago, in the October 18th drawing.

The [1-2-2-1] General Order was also last seen in the October 18th drawing. Tuesday’s drawing brought this General Order’s tally up to 27 appearances. The [1-2-2-1] General Order has played in 27.6% of the 98 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and 8.36% of all Mega Millions drawings.

The biggest draw of the evening was the debut of the 1 0 2 0 2 1 Specific Order. This Specific Order has now played in 3.70% of the 27 drawings where the [1-2-2-1] was the General Order of the evening. Additionally, the 1 0 2 0 2 1 Specific Order has played 1.02% of the 98 drawings with the {2-2-1-1} as the winning Pattern, and approximately 0.31% of all 323 drawings.

When Mega Millions plays again, it will be Black Friday

And thousands of people will be pushing each other out of the way.

Will the lull we’ve seen this month stay

Or, will we see a more robust play?

All Tied Up

The October 26, 2016 drawing for Lotto Texas was mellow. No Australia Play, no Four or Five-Number Combos that first played back when VHS tapes still existed. Powerball had other ideas. As Chicago beat Cleveland in Game 2 to tie up the World Series, the Pattern Tango commenced once again.

Lotto Texas

There is no doubt that the {3-2-1} Pattern is without equal. With 723 appearances, it is far and away the most commonly seen Pattern. This gargantuan lead was solidified by winning numbers 5, 21, 24, 32, 37, and 39.

Winning Texas Lotto Numbers from lotterytrend.com.

How big is this lead? Its nearest competitor, {2-2-2}, comes in with 189 appearances. Given that there have been 1389 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played 52.1% of the time. We last saw the {3-2-1} Pattern a week ago in the October 19, 2016 drawing.

The 1 3 2 Specific Order made its 106th appearance in Wednesday’s drawing. This Specific Order was last seen a couple of months ago in the August 24, 2016 drawing. Out of the 723 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern, the 1 3 2 Specific Order has played 14.7% of the time. When looking at all 1389 Lotto Texas drawings, this becomes 7.63% of the time.

Powerball

Once again, we have become ensnared in another edition of the Powerball Pattern Tango. Wednesday’s drawing saw the 39th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, tying with the {2-1-1-1-1}. This time, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern was thanks to numbers 2, 3, 16, 48, 56, and PB 24.

Now that there have been 111 drawings, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played 35.1% of the time. To see when this Pattern previously played, we’ll need to go back to the beginning of the month. October 1, 2016, to be precise.

October 1st is also the last time we saw the [2-1-2-1] General Order appear prior to Wednesday’s drawing. With 12 appearances, and 39 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 30.8% of the time. This shrinks to 10.8% when we look at all 111 drawings.

The 2 1 0 2 0 1 Specific Order made its second appearance last night. Out of the 12 drawings where [2-1-2-1] was the General Order, the 2 1 0 2 0 1 Specific Order has played 16.67% of the time. When we look at the 39 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, this shrinks to 5.13% of the time. Finally, this becomes 1.80% when taking all 111 Powerball drawings into account.

As the World Series continues, and with last minute Halloween preparations under way, what will Saturday have in store for Lottery Trend Country? Will the {2-2-1-1} be bold enough to steal away the title of Most Commonly Seen Pattern from {2-1-1-1-1}? Will a rarely-seen Pattern play in Lotto Texas?

October Surprises

As the daylight hours dwindle and the leaves fall off the trees, October picks up steam. The World Series is about to get in gear, football continues to draw millions of viewers, and Halloween is just around the corner. For a humble lottery trend analysis blog like Lottery Binge, it also means seeing Mega Millions wanting a piece of this excitement. Let it be known that the October 18, 2016 drawing gave us not only a Pattern from last month, but visitors from last year.

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 97th appearance, its first since the September 16th drawing. The lucky numbers in Tuesday’s drawing were 7, 24, 28, 65, 74, and MB 1.

Out of the 313 Mega Millions drawings, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played 31% of the time. It has a way to go before it can even dream of overtaking the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern as Most Commonly Played Pattern, which has played 124 times.

Getting back to the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, the [1-2-2-1] General Order has now appeared 26 times. Like the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, it too made a previous appearance in the September 16th drawing. The [1-2-2-1] General Order has now played in 26.8% of the 97 drawings that have {2-2-1-1} as the winning Pattern, and in 8.3% of all 313 drawings.

The 1 2 0 0 2 1 Specific Order made its fourth appearance in Tuesday’s drawing. Given that there have been 26 drawings where [1-2-2-1] was the General Order, the 1 2 0 0 2 1 Specific Order has played 15.4% of the time. This becomes 4.2% when we look at the 97 drawings that {2-2-1-1} was the Pattern, and 1.28% overall. Although it previously played in September, the 1 2 0 0 2 1 Specific Order did not play this past September. This Specific Order in fact made its previous appearance on September 29, 2015.

Finally, we come to the repeat appearances of the following Three-Number Combinations:

  • 7, 24, MB 1, which first played October 13, 2015, and
  • 65, 74, MB 1, which played July 21, 2015.

As we look ahead to Friday’s drawing, will the {2-2-1-1} Pattern make an encore appearance or will it be a rarely-seen Pattern that gets to play? Will there be another Specific Order that makes its first appearance in over a year?

A Throwback and a Title Snatching

We’re now officially in the month of October. The (US) football season is in full swing and the holiday season is right around the corner. Lotto Texas and Powerball show no signs of easing up. In fact, they live for the weekend! Saturday nights, and the October 1, 2016 round was no exception, are the most likely to give us throwbacks to the pre-smartphone days and Pattern power struggles.

Lotto Texas

The 720th appearance of the {3-2-1} Pattern was provided by winning numbers 10, 16, 17, 20, 22, and 53.

Winning Texas Lottery numbers from lotterytrend.com.
Winning Texas Lottery numbers from lotterytrend.com.

Out of the 1382 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has now played 52.1% of the time. We previously saw this Pattern a few weeks ago in the September 21, 2016 drawing.

The 3 2 1 Specific Order made its 128th appearance, its first since the July 13, 2016 drawing. Of the 720 drawings in which the {3-2-1} Pattern appeared, the 3 2 1 Specific Order has played 17.8% of the time. When looking at all 1382 Lotto Texas drawings, this becomes 9.26%.

The throwback of the evening was brought to us by the encore appearance of a Four-Number Combination. The numbers were 10, 16, 20, and 22.

Yes, this particular Four-Number Combination pre-dates the smartphone days by quite a bit. The first time this Combination played was nearly sixteen years ago! October 14, 2000 to be precise.

Powerball

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern wasn’t satisfied with a tie. Once again, it took the title of Most Commonly Played Pattern away from the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern. This time around, the numbers that propelled {2-2-1-1} above and beyond were 2, 12, 50, 61, 64, PB 1.

Now having played 38 times out of 104, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played 36.5% of the time. This is in contrast to the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, which has appeared in 37 drawings and played 35.6% of the time. To add insult to injury, this is a three-peat appearance for the {2-2-1-1}; this Pattern previously played in Wednesday’s drawing as well as the September 24th drawing.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 11th appearance, its first since the August 24, 2016 drawing. Out of the 38 drawings with {2-2-1-1} as the winning Pattern, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 28.9% of the time. Looking at all 104 Powerball drawings, this becomes 10.6%.

The 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order made its third appearance. Given that there have been 11 instances of the [2-1-2-1] General Order playing, the 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order has played in 27.3% of those drawings. When looking at the 38 drawings that have the {2-2-1-1} as the winning Pattern, 2 0 0 1 2 1 Specific Order has played 7.89% of the time. Finally, this becomes 2.78% when looking at all 104 drawings. We have to go back to the January 6, 2016 drawing to see when this Specific Order previously played.

For the second time in this blog’s history, we saw a Two-Number Combination play for the fourth time. This came in the form of 61 and 64.

In addition to Saturday’s drawing, here were the previous occurrences. Keep in mind that all of them occurred this year:

  • January 16, 2016
  • July 9, 2016
  • August 10, 2016

Looking ahead to the first full week of the month, will Lotto Texas give us another retro throwback? Will {2-2-1-1} hold on to its lead in Powerball and not let go?

Chunks of Pumpkin in the Air

While Mega Million settles down with a pumpkin spice latte, Lotto Texas and Powerball spent the night of September 28th smashing pumpkins.

Lotto Texas saw a Pattern that doesn’t get much play, and the {2-1-1-1-1} and {2-2-1-1} Patterns are neck-and-neck once again in Powerball.

Lotto Texas

The {5-1} Pattern made its 48th appearance thanks to 21, 29, 31, 32, 36, and 48.

Winning Texas Lotto numbers. From lotterytrend.com.

With that said, there have been 1381 drawings in Lotto Texas to date, and the {5-1} Pattern has played 3.8% of the time. We last saw this Pattern in the July 27, 2016 drawing. This Pattern was actually mentioned in a post from early last week. Mary Harris, The Architect of Lottery Trend, used it in her example of how a Pattern improves the odds of winning when said Pattern plays. If you haven’t done so already, give it a read.

Moving on to the Specific Order now, we had 0 5 1 play for the 9th time. Out of the 48 drawings where the {5-1} Pattern has appeared, the 0 5 1 Specific Order has played 18.75% of the time. When we look at all 1381 drawings, this becomes 0.65% of the time. Prior to Wednesday’s drawing the 0 5 1 Specific Order played July 29, 2015. This is actually almost exactly one year prior to the previous date the {5-1} Pattern itself played.

Also making its second appearance was the Four-Number Combination 21, 31, 36, and 48.

We first saw this Combination in the November 26, 2014 drawing, right before Thanksgiving (US).

Powerball

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern just wants to be on top, it seems. Instead, it’ll have to settle for a tie with {2-1-1-1-1} for Most Commonly Played Pattern. The 37th appearance was made possible by winning numbers 30, 38, 52, 53, 62, and PB 1.

Out of the 103 Powerball drawings to date, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played approximately 35.9% of the time. Not only did the 37th appearance create a tie, it’s actually an encore! The {2-2-1-1} Pattern previously played in Saturday’s drawing.

The [2-2-1-1] General Order made its 13th appearance, and out of the 37 drawings the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared, it has played 35.1% of the time. When looking at all 103 Powerball drawings, this becomes 12.6% of the time. We last saw this General Order a couple of weeks ago in the September 14, 2016 drawing.

We were treated to not just a repeat of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, but the debut of the 0 0 2 2 1 1 Specific Order. This Specific Order has played in 7.69% of the 13 drawings where the [2-2-1-1] General Order has played, 2.70% of the 37 drawings when the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played, and 0.97% of all 103 Powerball drawings.

The grand finale of the evening was the second appearance of the Three-Number Combination 30, 52, and 62. It in fact made its first appearance a few months ago in the April 20, 2016 drawing.

How will Lotto Texas and Powerball start off October? Will Lotto Texas see a retro throwback or an Australia Play? Will the {2-2-1-1} snatch away the title of Most Commonly Played Pattern from {2-1-1-1-1} once again?

Warmin’ On Up

Somebody won the jackpot!

First, we’d like to give a shout out to the winner of the September 16th, 2016 Mega Millions drawing. In addition to creating a winner, Friday’s drawing gave us a glimpse back to the earlier, warmer (and hotter) times of the year.

Friday’s drawing saw the 96th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, provided by the winning numbers 13, 21, 28, 34, 40, and MB 15.

Now that there have been 304 drawings, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played 31.6% of the time. Last we saw this Pattern was at the beginning of Labor Day weekend (September 2nd). Unlike in Powerball, this {2-2-1-1} Pattern isn’t close to taking the title of Most Commonly Seen Pattern away from {2-1-1-1-1}.

The General Order of the evening was [1-2-2-1], which previously played on August 19th, 2016. Making its 25th appearance, it has appeared in 26.0% of the 96 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern played. When looking at all 304 drawings, the [1-2-2-1] General Order has played 8.22% of the time.

The 1 2 2 0 0 1 Specific Order made its fifth appearance, having previously played back on May 6th, 2016. Out of the 25 drawings where [1-2-2-1] was the General Order, the 1 2 2 0 0 1 Specific Order has played 20% of the time. When looking at the 96 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, this becomes 5.21%, and becomes 1.64% of the time when looking at all 304 Mega Millions drawings.

Last, but definitely not least, we come to the Three-Number Combination of 21, 40, and MB 15, which first played on December 22nd, 2015.

As we look to the final Mega Millions drawing of the summer, will Mega Millions keep it warm?

Four Prevails

What is generally associated with “four”, besides the number? There’s the four seasons (Vivaldi or hotel?), four directions, four-square, just to name a few things. September 14, 2016 saw quite a bit of “four” in both Lotto Texas and Powerball. Even with “four” making its grand stand, there appears to be yet another power struggle in Powerball.

Lotto Texas

The {4-2} Pattern, a Pattern we don’t see that often, made its 151st appearance. Wednesday’s numbers were 6, 15, 37, 38, 51, and 54.

Winning Texas Lotto numbers from lotterytrend.com.
Winning Texas Lotto numbers from lotterytrend.com.

Out of the 1377 Lotto Texas drawings, the {4-2} Pattern has now played 11% of the time.

The 2 0 4 Specific Order made its 18th appearance, and out of the 151 drawings where {4-2} was the winning Pattern, it’s played 11.9% of the time. When looking at all 1377 drawings, this becomes 1.31%. This Specific Order was last seen on May 21, 2016, which in fact was the weekend before our blog launched.

We saw two Four-Number Combinations each play for the second time. While we didn’t see anything from the previous decade, there was a pretty sizable gap! The Four-Number Combinations were:

  • 6, 37, 38, and 51, which first played July 28, 2010 (For those people who believe the millennium started in 2001, they could say that 2010 was last decade…) and
  • 6, 15, 37, and 54, which first played November 14, 2015.

Powerball

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern just doesn’t know when to quit. With winning numbers 10, 11, 23, 28, 31, and PB 14, this Pattern has now made 35 appearances.

Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend-powerball.com.
Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Given that there have been 99 Powerball drawings, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played 35.4% of the time. Once again, it looks like it’s challenging the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, which has played 36 times, for Most Commonly Played Pattern. To think that the {2-2-1-1} Pattern last played September 7, 2016, exactly one week prior to Wednesday’s drawing! Right now it looks like these Patterns are taking turns, but will it continue?

The [2-2-1-1] General Order, like the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, also previously played on September 7th. Now having played 12 times, and with 35 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [2-2-1-1] General Order has played 34.3% of the time. When looking at all 99 Powerball drawings, this shrinks to 12.1%.

Unlike the Pattern and General Order of the evening, the 2 2 1 0 0 1 Specific Order previously played near the beginning of the year on January 13th. With two appearances, and with 12 drawings where the [2-2-1-1] General Order prevailed, the 2 2 1 0 0 1 Specific Order has played 16.7% of the time. This becomes 5.71% of the time when we look at the 35 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, and 2.02% when taking all 99 drawings into account.

And now for something a little different. Normally, when we talk about repeating Combinations in Powerball, we talk about the Three-Number Combinations. Last night, we saw a Two-Number Combination that has played four times.

The unusual Two-Number Combination. From lotterytrend-powerball.com.
The unusual Two-Number Combination. From lotterytrend-powerball.com.

This Two-Number Combination came in the form of 11, 23, as shown in the boxed section in the picture above. Not only has this Combination played four times, every instance has occurred this year.

The 11, 23 Combination played on the following dates:

  • March 19, 2016
  • March 26, 2016 (exactly one week later)
  • July 30, 2016
  • September 14, 2016 (a.k.a. “The drawing we’re currently discussing”)

As we enter the final weekend of summer (or winter), will the Lotto Texas {4-2} Pattern go for an encore? Will the {2-2-1-1} and {2-1-1-1-1} Patterns continue their power struggle, or will another Powerball Pattern get a chance to play?

September Warm-Up

After a quiet Saturday, Lotto Texas and Powerball were fired up in Wednesday’s drawings. Lotto Texas saw a {3-2-1} three-peat and more. On the Powerball side of things, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern called itself playing catch-up.

Lotto Texas

The September 7th, 2016 winning numbers were 9, 12, 26, 28, 33, and 40.

Winning Texas Lotto numbers. From lotterytrend.com.

Now with its 718th appearance, the {3-2-1} Pattern continues its rock-solid hold on Most Commonly Played Pattern. With 1375 drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has now played 52.2% of the time.

The Specific Order of the evening was 2 3 1, making its first appearance since July 20th. With its 118th appearance, and given the 718 appearances of the {3-2-1} Pattern, the 2 3 1 Specific Order has played 16.4% of the time. Taking all 1375 drawings into account, this becomes 8.58% of the time.

Now it gets a little more interesting. We saw a Four-Number Combination make an appearance for the first time in ten years! This Combination was brought to us by 12, 28, 33, and 40.

Thanks to winning numbers 22, 23, 29, 33, 35, and PB 21, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 34th appearance.

With 97 Powerball drawings to date, the {2-2-1-1} has played 35.1% of the time. The last time we saw this Pattern was back on August 24th.

The [2-2-1-1] General order made its 11th appearance, its first since early in the summer (June 11th). Given the 34 drawings in which the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played, the [2-2-1-1] General Order has played 32.4% of the time. This becomes 11.3% of the time when we look at all 97 drawings.

We now come to the 0 2 2 1 0 1 Specific Order. Making its debut last night, it has now appeared in 1 out of 11 drawings in which the [2-2-1-1] General Order has played, or 9.09% of the time. Looking at the 34 drawings in which the {2-2-1-1} has played, this becomes 2.94% of the time. Finally, the 0 2 2 1 0 1 Specific Order has now played in 1.03% of all Powerball drawings.

As football kicks it into high gear this weekend, will Lotto Texas see a {3-2-1} four-peat? Will the {2-2-1-1} Pattern continue to play catch-up and dethrone the {2-1-1-1-1} in Powerball?

The September 300

September is upon us once again. The days are getting shorter, or longer for those of you reading in the Southern Hemisphere, football is starting back up, and the last group of kids are heading back to class. In Lottery World, September for Mega Millions began as calmly as August ended. There were no major upsets, repeats, or throwbacks to a time long gone on September 2nd. However, Mega Millions quietly reached a milestone: 300 drawings (and counting)! And by “300th”, we mean “The 300th drawing with number balls 1 through 75 and Mega Balls (MBs) 1 through 15.”

Friday’s 300th Drawing Spectacular ™ was thanks to 22, 28, 41, 46, 60, and MB 3.

This was the 95th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, its first since August 23rd. Given the 300 drawings in Mega Millions, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played 31.7% of the time.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order played for the 34th time, and, like the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, made its first appearance since August 23rd. Of the 95 drawings in which the {2-2-1-1} Pattern played, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 35.8% of the time. This becomes 11.3% when we take all 300 drawings into account.

This gave way to the 0 2 1 2 0 1 Specific Order making its fifth appearance. In contrast to the General Order and Pattern of the evening, the 0 2 1 2 0 1 Specific Order was last seen at the beginning of the year (January 22nd). Given the 34 drawings in which the [2-1-2-1] General Order appeared, the 0 2 1 2 0 1 Specific Order has now played 14.7% of the time. This becomes 5.26% of the time when looking at the 95 {2-2-1-1} drawings and 1.67% when looking at all 300.

Finally, we come to the second appearance of the Three-Number Combination 41, 60, and MB 3. The first time this Combination played was back on April 8th, 2014.

As we look ahead to next week, will things pick up for Mega Millions, or will the calmness continue?

Lotto Texas Retro Flirt and Powerball’s New Champion

Both Lotto Texas and Powerball saw their Most Commonly Played Patterns on August 24th, 2016. You’re probably thinking “So? Of course the Most Commonly Played Pattern is going to show up the most. That’s no big deal!” Sure it was no big deal for the Lotto Texas drawing; it’s most commonly seen Pattern has a comfortable lead. The upset was in Powerball.

Making its 715th appearance, the {3-2-1} has no other Pattern that can even come close to taking its title as Most Commonly Played. With 1371 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played 52.2% of the time. Last we saw this Pattern was about two weeks ago on August 13th.

The 1 3 2 Specific Order played for the 105th time, its first since July 9th, 2016. In the 715 drawings which the {3-2-1} Pattern was the winner, the 1 3 2 Specific Order has played 14.7% of the time. This becomes 7.66% when we take all 1371 drawings into account.

While the Lotto Texas drawing appeared “safe”, there was more to it once we popped the hood. A Four-Number Combination that hadn’t seen the light of day in fifteen years made its second appearance!

This Combination was provided by 5, 19, 27, and 31, having first played August 22nd, 2001.

And to think that dial-up was still a thing. Simpler times indeed!

Powerball

Even though Lotto Texas got to have some fun Wednesday night, Powerball was where all the fireworks were this time around. For starters, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has dethroned the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern as the most commonly played Pattern. How, you ask? By the power of these six numbers: 9, 11, 25, 64, 65 and PB 16.

Not only did the {2-2-1-1} make its 33rd appearance, this dethroning was the work of an encore! This Pattern previously played August 20th. With 93 Powerball drawings to date, the {2-2-1-1} has now played 35.5% of the time.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order also made a previous appearance in the August 20th drawing. Now playing for the 10th time, and taking the 33 drawings where {2-2-1-1} has played, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played 30.3% of the time. When looking at all 93 drawings, this becomes 10.8%.

Finally, the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order made its 3rd appearance. When looking at the 10 drawings where [2-1-2-1] was the General Order of the night, the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order has played 30% of the time. This becomes 9.09% when looking at the 33 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and 3.23% when looking at all 93 drawings. Just like the winning Pattern and General Order, the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order previously played in the August 20th drawing.

As we enter the last weekend of August, will other Combinations that haven’t played since the dial-up days make an encore? Will the {2-2-1-1} Pattern retain its lead in Powerball or will {2-1-1-1-1} try to reclaim its title?
