The Ghosts of Christmas Seasons Past

Even though we’re at the beginning of a new year, the January 7^th, 2017 drawings for Lotto Texas and Powerball were still in 2016 mode. Our analysis showed that both lotteries had Patterns that previously played during this past holiday season. What’s more is that the Specific Orders harkened back to even earlier winter holiday periods.

Lotto Texas

The {4-2} Pattern made its 156^th appearance with winning numbers 2, 5, 14, 18, 26, and 27.

This not-often-seen Pattern previously played on Christmas Eve 2016, and has now appeared in 11.1% of the 1410 Lotto Texas drawings.

The 4 2 0 Specific Order made its 31^st appearance, and has now played in 19.9% of the 156 drawings where the {4-2} Pattern has appeared and in 2.2% of all drawings. Prior to Saturday, we saw the 4 2 0 Specific Order in the December 19^th, 2015 drawing.

Our Lotto Texas coverage concludes this time around with repeating Four-Number Combinations. Three Combinations had the honor of making a repeat appearance:

2, 14, 18, and 27 (debuted April 16^th, 2008)
2, 5, 14, and 26 (debuted October 22^nd, 2016)
5, 14, 18, and 27 (debuted August 31^st, 2013)

Powerball

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern continues to hold on as the most commonly seen Pattern in Powerball. The 46^th appearance was thanks to winning numbers 3, 12, 24, 37, 63, and PB 10.

This Pattern has now played in 34.9% of the 132 Powerball drawings to date. Prior to Saturday, we last saw the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern in the December 28^th, 2016 drawing.

Next, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its ninth appearance. Like the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, it also previously played in the December 28^th drawing. This General Order has now played in 19.6% of the 46 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 6.82% of all drawings.

The 2 1 1 0 1 1 Specific Order made its second appearance, and has played in 22.2% of the nine drawings where the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order appeared. This Specific Order has also played in 4.35% of the 46 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern appeared, and in 1.52% of all drawings. The 2 1 1 0 1 1 Specific Order previously played in the December 12^th, 2015 drawing.

Will next week bring more repeating Four-Number Combinations? Will other rarely seen Patterns get to play?

3-2-1 All Around!

If the results of January 4^th, 2017 were anything to go by, both Lotto Texas and Powerball began the year with a bang. Wednesday night’s results were rare in more ways than one.

Lotto Texas

The {3-2-1} Pattern had a three-peat, and continues to be the most commonly seen Pattern by a long shot. The winning numbers were 5, 7, 36, 39, 40, and 44.

Now with 735 appearances, this Pattern has played in 52.2% of the 1409 drawings. Recall that both the December 28^th and December 31^st drawings from last week were the last times we saw the {3-2-1} Pattern.

The 2 1 3 Specific Order made its 109^th appearance, and has now played in 14.8% of the 735 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has played, and in 7.74% of all Lotto Texas drawings. Prior to Wednesday, we last saw the 2 1 3 Specific Order in the September 3^rd, 2016 drawing.

Powerball

Wednesday’s Powerball also had the {3-2-1} Pattern. The winning numbers were 16, 17, 29, 41, 42, and PB 4.

Unlike the {3-2-1} in Lotto Texas, this {3-2-1} Pattern is one of the least commonly seen Patterns in Powerball. In fact, this Pattern has played so few times that Wednesday’s drawing brought the total number of appearances of the {3-2-1} Pattern to four. Powerball’s {3-2-1} Pattern has now played in 3.05% of the 131 Powerball drawing, and had previously played in the March 16^th, 2016 drawing.

Next, the [2-3-1] General Order made its first appearance in over a year. Now having played three times, this General Order has appeared in 75% of the four drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has played, and in 2.29% of all Powerball drawings. To see when the [2-3-1] General Order previously played, we need to go back to October 17^th, 2015.

Finally, the 0 2 3 0 0 1 Specific Order made its second appearance, its first since the October 14^th, 2015 drawing. This Specific Order has now appeared in 66.7% of the three drawings where the [2-3-1] General Order has appeared, 50% of the four drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern appeared, and in 1.53% of all drawings.

Having Lotto Texas and Powerball play the same Pattern is not a common sight! As we look ahead to Saturday’s drawing, will we see another uncommon sight, or will we see something a bit more “normal”?

Ending the Year With Flare

Happy New Year! As the world greeted 2017 with firecrackers, fireworks, and sparklers, Lotto Texas and Powerball said goodbye to 2016 with fireworks of their own.

Lotto Texas

Lotto Texas saw an encore of the {3-2-1} Pattern in the New Year’s Eve drawing. The 734^th appearance was thanks to winning numbers 2, 5, 11, 33, 39, and 51.

This Pattern has now appeared in 52.1% of the 1408 Lotto Texas drawings to date. Recall that the {3-2-1} Pattern previously played in Wednesday’s drawing.

Like the {3-2-1-} Pattern, the 3 1 2 Specific Order made an encore as well. That is, it too previously played in this past Wednesday’s drawing. With 132 appearances, this Specific Order has played in approximately 18% of the 734 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 9.375% of all Lotto Texas drawings.

Powerball

The {2-2-1-1} made its 44^th appearance, and previously played in the Christmas Eve 2016 drawing. The winning numbers this time around were 1, 3, 28, 59, 67, and PB 9.

As of Saturday, this Pattern has played in 33.8% of the 130 Powerball drawings.

Next, the [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 13^th appearance, its first since the October 26, 2016 drawing. This General Order has played in 29.5% of the 44 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} General Order appeared, and in 10% of all drawings.

The 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order made its fourth appearance. With that said, this Specific Order has played in 30.8% of the 13 drawings where the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played, 9.09% of the 44 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern played, and in 3.08% of all Powerball drawings. Prior to Saturday, we last saw the 2 1 0 0 2 1 Specific Order in the August 24, 2016 drawing.

Powerball ended 2016 with a repeat appearance of the Three-Number Combination 1, 28, and 67.

This Combination made its debut a few months prior, in the September 21, 2016 drawing.

With 2016 behind us, we wait with baited breath for all the twists and turns that Lotto Texas and Powerball will have in store for the year ahead.

A Modest Stocking Stuffer

It’s not every year that the Lotto Texas and Powerball drawings fall on Christmas Eve! While the parties were commencing and little kids found it hard to sleep, things went on as scheduled in the lottery world. Thankfully, we weren’t left with a lump of coal.

Lotto Texas

The {3-2-1} Pattern decided to take a break and let the {4-2} Pattern play instead. The winning numbers were 5, 8, 13, 15, 39, and 42.

Now with 155 appearances, this Pattern has played in 11.0% of the 1406 Lotto Texas drawings. Also of note is how the {4-2} Pattern is now tied with the {4-1-1-1} Pattern. We last saw the {4-2} Pattern play a while back in the December 14, 2016 drawing.

The 4 0 2 Specific Order made its 22^nd appearance, its first since the August 20, 2016 drawing. This Specific Order has now played in 14.2% of the 155 drawings where the {4-2} Pattern has appeared, and in 1.56% of all drawings.

Powerball

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 43^rd appearance, thanks to winning numbers 28, 38, 42, 51, 52, and PB 21.

This Pattern has now played in 33.6% of the 128 Powerball drawings to date. While it appears that the {2-2-1-1} is playing catch-up (again) to the {2-1-1-1-1}, it’s premature to assume that it will catch up in the next drawing. Like with the Lotto Texas Pattern we just discussed, Powerball’s {2-2-1-1} Pattern previously played in the December 14, 2016 drawing.

Next, the [1-2-2-1] General Order made its 15^th appearance, the first since the September 24, 2016 drawing. This General Order has now played in 34.9% of the 43 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 11.7% of all drawings.

Our Christmas coverage concludes with 0 1 2 2 0 1 Specific Order, now having appeared three times. This Specific Order has now played in 20% of the 15 drawings where the [1-2-2-1] General Order appeared, 6.98% of the 43 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern appeared, and in 2.34% of all drawings. The 0 1 2 2 0 1 Specific Order previously played in the August 6, 2016 drawing.

With Christmas come and gone, we start to say goodbye to 2016 and look ahead to the future. Will Lotto Texas and Powerball go out with a bang, or will they end the year with a murmur?

A Most Common Cause

December 21^st, 2016 was the start of winter, or summer if you’re reading our blog from the Southern Hemisphere. It also marked the halfway point in the week before Christmas. This December 21^st saw Lotto Texas and Powerball share common ground.

Lotto Texas

The {3-2-1} Pattern made its 732^nd appearance, thanks to winning numbers 7, 16, 22, 24, 28, and 54.

As of Wednesday’s drawing, this Pattern has now appeared in 52.1% of the 1405 drawings. We last saw this Pattern a few weeks back in the December 10^th drawing. The {3-2-1} Pattern remains far and away the most commonly seen Pattern.

Our Lotto Texas coverage concludes with the 122^nd appearance of the 2 3 1 Specific Order. This Specific Order has played in 16.7% of the 732 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has played, and 8.68% of all Lotto Texas drawings. We last saw the 2 3 1 Specific Order in the November 26^th, 2016 drawing.

Powerball

Like Lotto Texas, Powerball saw its most commonly seen Pattern. The {2-1-1-1-1} asserted itself with an encore appearance. This occasion was marked by winning numbers 25, 33, 40, 54, 68, and PB 3.

Having now appeared in 44 drawings, this Pattern has now played in 34.6% of the 127 Powerball drawings. Recall that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern previously played in this past Saturday’s drawing.

Next, we come to the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order, now making its eleventh appearance. This General Order has now played in 25% of the 44 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and 8.66% of all Powerball drawings. We last saw the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order in the November 23^rd, 2016 drawing.

The 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order made its second appearance. With that said, this Specific Order has appeared in 18.2% of the 11 drawings where the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 4.54% of the 44 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 1.57% of all drawings. The 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order made its debut in the November 18^th, 2015 drawing.

There’s only a few more shopping days until Christmas, and the next drawing will occur on Christmas Eve. Will Lotto Texas and Powerball stuff our stockings to the brim, or leave us a lump of coal?

Break? What Break?

With a good chunk of the Northern Hemisphere in the grip of some powerfully cold air, it doesn’t look like much of a warm-up is coming anytime soon. Of course, Lotto Texas and Powerball didn’t get that message. While Mega Millions gave us a quiet start to the weekend on Friday, Saturday night’s lotteries had some noteworthy developments.

Lotto Texas

One of these developments in the December 17, 2016 Lotto Texas drawing was the appearance of the {5-1} Pattern. This rarely-seen Pattern was thanks to 16, 42, 44, 45, 49, 51.

Having now made 49 appearances, the {5-1} Pattern has played in 3.49% of the 1404 drawings to date. We last saw this Pattern in the September 28, 2016 drawing.

The 1 0 5 Specific Order made its ninth appearance, its first since the September 30^th, 2015 drawing. This Specific Order has played in 18.4% of the 49 drawings where the {5-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 0.64% of all Lotto Texas drawings.

Our Lotto Texas coverage ends with a repeat appearance of the Four-Number Combination 16, 42, 44, and 51.

This Combination made its debut in the September 24, 2014 drawing.

Powerball

Powerball narrowly averted the (in)famous Pattern Tango between the {2-2-1-1} and {2-1-1-1-1} Patterns. We saw the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern make its 43^rd appearance, allowing it to break the tie and hold on to its title as Most Commonly Played Pattern. The winning numbers for this occasion were 1, 8, 16, 40, 48, and PB 10.

With 43 appearance, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played in 34.1% of the 126 Powerball drawings. This Pattern previously played just before (US) Thanksgiving: November 23, 2016.

Next, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its seventh appearance, its first since the August 31, 2016 drawing. This General Order has played in 16.3% of the 43 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played and in 5.56% of all Powerball drawings.

Finally, the 2 1 1 1 0 1 Specific Order appeared for the second time. As of Saturday’s drawing, this Specific Order has played in 28.6% of the seven drawings where the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 4.65% of the 43 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played, and in 1.59% of all drawings. The 2 1 1 1 0 1 Specific Order made its debut earlier this year in the January 30, 2016 drawing.

With one more week until Christmas, and two weeks left in 2016, what does the rest of the year have in store? Will Lotto Texas and Powerball end the year with a bang, or will they be mellow?

A Night of Polar Opposites

The December 14, 2016 Lotto Texas and Powerball drawings couldn’t be any more different. Lotto Texas saw a Pattern that has played a respectable amount of times. Meanwhile, Powerball saw a Pattern that plays quite often, and has been known to go back-and-forth with another Pattern in terms of the most number of times played.

Lotto Texas

Wednesday’s Lotto Texas drawing gave us the {4-2} Pattern, brought about by winning numbers 29, 35, 38, 39, 49, and 53.

Now with 154 appearances, the {4-2} Pattern has now played in approximately 11% of the 1403 Lotto Texas drawings. Prior to Wednesday, we last saw this Pattern a couple of months ago; October 8^th, to be precise.

Our Lotto Texas coverage concludes with the 28^th appearance of the 0 2 4 Specific Order. This Specific Order has now played in 18.2% of the 154 drawings where the {4-2} Pattern was the winning Pattern and in 2% of all Lotto Texas drawings. The 0 2 4 Specific Order previously played in the May 25, 2016 drawing.

Powerball

Once again, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has tied with the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern when it comes to the number of times played. The 42^nd appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern is thanks to winning numbers 18, 26, 37, 39, 66, and PB 15.

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played in 33.6% of the 125 Powerball drawings. We last saw this Pattern about a couple of weeks ago in the December 3, 2016 drawing.

The [2-2-1-1] General Order made its 16^th appearance, and it too was last seen in the December 3^rd drawing. This General Order has now appeared in 38.1% of the 42 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 1.28% of all Powerball drawings.

Finally, we come to the 0 2 2 0 1 1 Specific Order, which has now played three times. As of Wednesday’s drawing, this Specific Order has played in 18.75% of the 16 drawings where [2-2-1-1] was the General Order of the evening, 7.14% of the 42 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern played, and 1.28% of all drawings. What a week! Wednesday’s drawing had an Australia Play and repeating Three-Number Combinations in Lotto Texas and Powerball, respectively. The gift explosion continued Saturday in more ways than one.

Lotto Texas

The December 10, 2016 drawing was the 731^st appearance of the {3-2-1} Pattern. The occasion was marked by winning numbers 1, 9, 14, 26, 37, and 46.

As of Saturday, this Pattern has appeared in 52.1% of the 1402 Lotto Texas drawings to date. We previously saw the {3-2-1} Pattern last weekend in the December 3, 2016 drawing.

The 3 1 2 Specific Order made its 130^th appearance, its first since the October 5, 2016 drawing. This Specific Order has played in 17.8% of the 731 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern, and in 9.27% of all drawings.

Powerball

Remember in our coverage of Wednesday’s drawings that Lotto Texas saw an Australia Play? Powerball got in on the action with the appearance of the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern. The winning numbers were 12, 21, 32, 44, 66, and PB 15.

With 13 appearances, the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played in 10.5% of 124 Powerball drawings to date. As is the nature of the Australia Play, these statistics also apply to the [1-1-1-1-1-1] General Order and the 1 1 1 1 1 1 Specific Order. Powerball last saw an Australia Play in the November 2, 2016 drawing.

As parents (and teachers) brace for the upcoming Christmas break, will we see an unprecedented Australia Play streak? Will either Lotto Texas or Powerball see a similar spread?

Mid-Week Fireballs

We’re only a week into December and so far, it’s shaping up to be quite a month! December 7, 2016 gave us a Pattern in Lotto Texas that we haven’t seen in a while, and Powerball had an interesting play as well.

Lotto Texas

Although we didn’t see a repeating Four-Number Combination this time around, we saw an Australia Play. That is, the {2-2-2} Pattern and the 2 2 2 Specific Order made their 191^st appearance. The winning numbers were 4, 5, 29, 34, 40, and 53.

As of Wednesday, the {2-2-2} Pattern has played in 13.6% of the 1401 Lotto Texas drawings. As is the nature of the Australia Play, this statistic also applies to the 2 2 2 Specific Order. We last saw both the {2-2-2} Pattern and the 2 2 2 Specific Order in the October 29, 2016 drawing.

Powerball

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern did not make an encore appearance. Instead, we saw the {3-1-1-1} Pattern play. The 23^rd appearance of this Pattern was made possible by winning numbers 41, 48, 49, 53 64, and PB 20.

The {3-1-1-1} Pattern has now played in 18.7% of the 123 Powerball drawings to date. Prior to Wednesday, this Pattern previously played in the November 26, 2016 drawing.

The [1-3-1-1] General Order made its 9^th appearance, its first since the November 12^th, 2016 drawing. This General Order has now played in 39.1% of the 23 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 7.32% of all Powerball drawings.

Next, the 0 0 1 1 3 1 Specific Order made its second appearance Wednesday night. This Specific Order has now played in 22.2% of the 9 drawings where the [1-3-1-1] General Order has appeared, 8.70% of the 23 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and 1.63% of all 123 drawings. The 0 0 1 1 3 1 Specific Order made its debut in the November 21, 2015 drawing.

Finally, Powerball saw two Three-Number Combinations repeat. These were

49, 64, and PB 20, which first played August 27, 2016, and
48, 49, and PB 20, which first played October 15, 2016

Looking ahead to Saturday’s drawing, will Patterns not commonly seen in either Lotto Texas or Powerball continue to have their play? Will we see another Australia Play?

December Warm-Up

December is marked by the change of seasons. In Lottery Binge country, it means the transition from autumn to winter. As cold and stormy weather takes hold, there were developments in Lotto Texas and Powerball on the night of December 3^rd that brought some welcome warmth.

Lotto Texas

Lotto Texas reached a milestone Saturday night; it was the 1400^th drawing with balls numbered 1 through 54. This special occasion was marked by the 730^th appearance of the {3-2-1} Pattern. The winning numbers were 15, 24, 31, 47, 51, and 52.

The {3-2-1} Pattern has now played in 52.1% of the 1400 Lotto Texas drawings. This Pattern played previously in the November 26^th drawing, which was in fact one week prior.

Next, the 1 2 3 Specific Order made its 136^th appearance, its first since the November 5^th, 2016 drawing. This Specific Order has now played in 18.6% of the 730 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern played, and in 9.71% of all drawings.

The biggest development for Lotto Texas was the repeat appearance of the following Four-Number Combination: 15, 24, 47, and 52.

This Four-Number Combination made its debut on February 4^th, 2012.

Powerball

Powerball saw an encore appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, thanks to winning numbers 8, 10 26, 27, 33, and PB 22.

Now with 41 appearances, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played in 33.6% of all 122 Powerball drawings. Recall that the {2-2-1-1} Pattern recently played in the November 30^th drawing. Is this encore appearance a prelude to yet another Tango with the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern?

Moving on, the [2-2-1-1] General order made its 15^th appearance, and it also previously played in the November 30^th drawing. The [2-2-1-1] General Order has now played in 36.6% of the 41 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared and 12.3% of all Powerball drawings.

Our Saturday coverage concludes with the 2 2 1 0 0 1 Specific Order, now having played three times. This Specific Order has now appeared in 20% of the 15 drawings where the [2-2-1-1] General Order has played, 7.32% of the 41 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played, and 2.46% of all Powerball drawings. Prior to Saturday, the 2 2 1 0 0 1 Specific Order previously played in the September 14^th, 2016 drawing.
