Decembering Onward

“What are you, crazy!?” you’re wondering. December’s over! Well, yes, it’s over on the calendar, but it didn’t go by the wayside in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing. The January 10, 2017 drawing had many callbacks to December, regardless of the year.

Tuesday’s winning numbers were 11, 20, 40, 41, 59, and MB 15.

Now with 132 appearances, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played in 39.2% of the 337 Mega Millions drawings, and remains the most commonly seen Pattern. Prior to Tuesday, we last saw this Pattern in the December 23, 2016 drawing.

The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order made its 31^st appearance, its first since the December 6, 2016 drawing. This General Order has now appeared in 23.5% of the 132 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 9.2% of all drawings.

Next in our lottery coverage is the 1 1 2 1 0 1 Specific Order. With ten appearances to date, this Specific Order has now appeared in 32.3% of the 31 drawings where the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order has appeared, 7.58% of the 132 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 2.97% of all drawings. Unlike the Pattern and General Order of the evening, the 1 1 2 1 0 1 Specific Order was previously seen in the November 4, 2016 drawing.

Our Mega Millions coverage ends tonight with a repeat appearance of the following Three-Number Combination: 11, 40, and MB 15.

Tuesday’s drawing, while somewhat low-key, had some interesting developments. Will the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern make an encore on Friday, or will a rarely seen Pattern appear? Will there be another repeating Three-Number Combination?

A (Not So) Chilly Start to the Weekend

Here in Lottery Trend country, January is typically the coldest month of the year. Snow and ice storms take hold in the north and Midwest, while those in the south who enjoy the cold hope some of that chilly air comes their way. Thankfully, lotteries generally aren’t at the mercy of Mother Nature’s whims!

Mega Millions started the weekend with an encore appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern. The January 6, 2017 drawing provided us with 6, 10, 44, 47, 54, and MB 6.

Friday’s drawing now brings the total number of appearances for this Pattern to 105, and has played in 31.3% of the 336 drawings. Recall that the {2-2-1-1} Pattern appeared in this past Tuesday’s drawing.

The [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 37^th appearance, its first since the December 13, 2016 drawing. This General Order has now appeared in 35.2% of the 105 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} drawing has played, and in approximately 11% of all drawings.

Finally, we come to the 2 0 1 2 0 1 Specific Order, having now played five times. This Specific Order has now appeared in 13.5% of the 37 drawings where the [2-1-2-1] General Order has played, 4.76% of the 105 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played, and in 1.49% of all drawings. Interestingly, the 2 0 1 2 0 1 Specific Order was previously seen almost exactly one year prior, in the January 5, 2016 drawing.

As next week shows a warm up for us weather-wise, will Mega Millions continue to crank it up or will it cool down?

And That Number Was 27

Now that the confetti has been swept away and the kids have gone back to school, it’s time to put away the Long Island Iced Teas and focus. Mega Millions started the year with the appearance of a commonly seen Pattern, and upon closer observation, a few instances of “27”. Date-wise, that is.

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 104^th appearance, with winning numbers 14, 16, 23, 49, 53, and MB 12.

As of the January 3, 2017 drawing, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has now played in 31% of the 335 drawings. We last saw this Pattern exactly one week prior in the December 27, 2016 drawing. Unlike the {2-2-1-1} Pattern in Powerball, this {2-2-1-1} Pattern won’t overtake the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern any time soon.

The [1-2-2-1] General Order made its 31^st appearance, and like the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, it also was last seen in the December 27^th, drawing. This General Order has now played in 29.8% of the 104 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern appeared, and in 9.25% of all drawings.

The 1 2 0 2 0 1 Specific Order has now played five times. With that said, this Specific Order has appeared in 16.1% of the 31 drawings where the [1-2-2-1] General Order has appeared, 4.81% of the 104 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} has appeared, and in 1.49% of all drawings. Prior to Tuesday, the 1 2 0 2 0 1 Specific Order had played in the January 13, 2015 drawing.

We saw a repeating Three-Number Combination in the form of 14, 16, and 53.

This Combination, believe it or not, made its debut in the September 27, 2016 drawing.

Will Mega Millions spice things up this Friday night?

Visits from Holidays Past

What a year it has been for Mega Millions! When we launched Lottery Binge back in May, we saw mellow periods, and an unprecedented “six-peat”. The December 30^th, 2016 drawing not only ended the year with a bang, but had another surprise when we looked at everything closely.

The {3-1-1-1} Pattern made its 54^th appearance, thanks to winning numbers 6, 21, 33, 39, 43, and MB 2.

As of Friday, this Pattern has appeared in 16.2% of the 334 Mega Millions drawings. We last saw this Pattern a little before Christmas, in the December 20^th drawing.

The [1-1-3-1] General Order made its 21^st appearance, and has now played in 38.9% of the 54 drawings that the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 6.29% of all drawings. Prior to Friday, the [1-1-3-1] General Order previously played in the November 29^th, 2016 drawing.

The 1 1 3 0 0 1 Specific Order made its fourth appearance. With that said, this Specific Order has now played in 19% of the 21 drawings where the [1-1-3-1] General Order has played, 7.41% of the 54 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and in 1.20% of all Mega Millions drawings. What makes the 1 1 3 0 0 1 Specific Order interesting is that this Specific Order was last seen in the January 1^st, 2016 drawing! We can certainly say that Mega Millions ended 2016 the way it started.

Another quirk in Friday’s drawing was the repeat appearance of the Three-Number Combination 33, 39, and MB 2.

This Combination made its debut on July 4^th, 2014. What a way to end the year!

Will Mega Millions begin the new year as strongly as it finished 2016, or will it decide to mellow out?

The Shape of Things to Come?

Now that Christmas is over, it’s almost time to say goodbye to 2016 and look forward to the future. After a quiet weekend, Mega Millions went full steam ahead in the December 27^th drawing. The prospect of a big blowout to end the year seemed promising.

One hint of the blowout came from the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, now having made 103 appearances. The winning numbers this time around were 2, 28, 30, 38, 39, and MB 11.

As of Tuesday, this Pattern has now played in 30.9% of the 333 Mega Millions drawings, and has appeared more than any other Pattern save the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern. The {2-2-1-1} Pattern was last seen in the December 13^th, 2016 drawing.

The [1-2-2-1] General Order made its 30^th appearance, its first since the December 2^nd, 2016 drawing. This General Order has now played in 29.1% of the 103 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 9.01% of all Mega Millions drawings.

Next, the 1 2 2 0 0 1 Specific Order made its sixth appearance. As of Tuesday, this Specific Order has played in 20% of the 30 drawings where the [1-2-2-1] General Order appeared, 5.83% of the 103 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 1.80% of all Mega Millions drawings. The 1 2 2 0 0 1 Specific Order was previously seen in the September 16^th, 2016 drawing.

Another hint, and possibly the largest one, was three Three-Number Combinations making their second appearance. Every one of these Combinations made their debut at least a year ago. The Combinations were

28, 30, and 38, which debuted in the September 22^nd, 2015 drawing
28, 30, and MB 11, which debuted in the November 11^th, 2014 drawing and
2, 30, and 38, which debuted in the November 24^th, 2015 drawing.

Friday will be the last Mega Millions drawing of 2016. Will Mega Millions truly go out with a bang, or were all suggestions of it premature?

Resting Up for New Year’s

What better way to kick off the Christmas weekend than with…a mellow night? For anyone who hoped to see an Australia Play or a repeating Three-Number Combination in the December 23^rd Mega Millions drawing, we’re sorry to disappoint. Even those who wanted to see a {3-1-1-1} Pattern encore were out of luck. But, we did see the most commonly played Pattern.

Like it is with Powerball (for now), the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern is the most commonly played Mega Millions Pattern to date. The 131^st appearance of this Pattern was thanks to winning numbers 21, 30, 39, 60, 69, and MB 15.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played in 25.2% of the 332 drawings. We last saw this Pattern earlier in the month, back on December 6^th.

The [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its 33^rd appearance, its first since October 25^th, 2016. As of Friday’s drawing, this General Order has played in 25.2% of the 131 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 9.94% of the 332 Mega Millions drawings.

Finally, the 0 2 1 1 1 1 Specific Order made its sixth appearance. This Specific Order has now played in 18.2% of the 33 drawings where the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 4.58% of the 131 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and 1.81% of all 332 drawings. We last saw the 0 2 1 1 1 1 Specific Order play in the May 13^th, 2016 drawing.

With one week to go before 2017, will Mega Millions end the year with a bang, or keep on its mellow streak?

A Fireball to Welcome Winter

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re in the home stretch. It’s the last week before Christmas and things started warming up in Mega Millions. In fact, the December 20^th, 2016 drawing was fiery compared to Friday’s drawing. So grab your wassail and pull up a chair as we go into the belly of the Mega Millions beast.

Tuesday’s drawing presented the {3-1-1-1} Pattern to us. Now with 53 appearances, this Pattern isn’t commonly seen. The 53^rd appearance was made possible by winning numbers 1, 12, 14, 48, 65, and MB 2.

The {3-1-1-1} Pattern has now played in 16.0% of the 331 Mega Millions drawings. We last saw this Pattern in the November 29^th, 2016 drawing.

The [3-1-1-1] General Order made its 18^th appearance, its first since the October 4^th, 2016 drawing. As of Tuesday, this General Order has played in approximately 34% of the 53 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern appeared, and in 5.44% of all drawings.

We now come to the 3 0 0 1 1 1 Specific Order, making its third appearance. This Specific Order has played in 16.667% of the 18 drawings where the [3-1-1-1] General Order has appeared, 5.66% of the 53 drawings where the {3-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and in 0.91% of all drawings. The 3 0 0 1 1 1 Specific Order previously played in the February 20^th, 2015 drawing.

Last, but not least, we saw a repeating Three-Number Combination. The lucky numbers were 14, 48, and MB 2.

With one more Mega Millions drawing left before Christmas, what will Mega Millions gift us with?

Mid-Month Breather

Christmas is fast approaching. Kids have been let out for the holiday, or soon will be, and Christmas shopping madness will be ratcheting up. Perhaps it was a good thing that Mega Millions decided to gift us with a breather.

The December 16^th drawing was the 22^nd appearance of the {3-2-1} Pattern. This not oft-seen Pattern was thanks to winning numbers 1, 8, 15, 36, 43, and MB 6.

The {3-2-1} Pattern has now played in 6.67% of the 330 Mega Millions drawings to date. Prior to Friday’s drawing, we last saw this Pattern on November 18, 2016.

The [3-2-1] General Order made its 10^th appearance, its first since the November 8, 2016 drawing. As of Friday’s drawing, this General Order has appeared in approximately 45.5% of the 22 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern played, and in 3.03% of all drawings.

The highlight of this otherwise quiet evening was the debut of the 3 0 2 0 0 1 Specific Order. With that said, this Specific Order has now appeared in 10% of the 10 drawings where the [3-2-1] General Order has played, 4.55% of the 22 drawings where the {3-2-1} Pattern has played, and 0.30% of all drawings.

As we look ahead to the last week of Christmas shopping, will Mega Millions gift us with more rarely-seen plays? Will another Specific Order make its debut?

Night of the (Almost) Rhyme

The number of days until Christmas continues to wind down and Mega Millions added a little more fuel to the fire. Although the December 13^th drawing wasn’t as explosive, it still stirred things up a bit.

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made an encore Tuesday night. Its 102^nd appearance was made possible by winning numbers 2, 15, 26, 34, 41, and MB 14.

This Pattern has now played in 31% of the 329 Mega Millions drawings to date. Since this is an encore and all, we saw the {2-2-1-1} Pattern previously play in this past Friday’s drawing (December 9^th).

The [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 36^thappearance and it too played previously in the December 9^th drawing. This General Order has now played in 35.3% of the 102 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, and in 10.9% of all drawings.

Finally, we come to the 2 1 2 0 0 1 Specific Order, making its third appearance. As of Tuesday, this Specific Order has played in approximately 8.33% of the 36 drawings where the [2-1-2-1] General Order has appeared, 2.94% of the 102 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has appeared, and in 0.91% of all Mega Millions drawings. Prior to Tuesday’s drawing, we last saw the 2 1 2 0 0 1 Specific Order on November 14^th, 2014.

As we look ahead to the last Friday of sane Christmas shopping (the 23^rd will be a nightmare), will the {2-2-1-1} go for a three-peat? Will someone get a huge Christmas bonus?

Spreadin’ That Christmas Spirit

December 9^th was an explosive start to the weekend. The Mega Millions drawing of the evening saw a development that heated things up. How hot did it get?

For those of you who were expecting an encore of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, we’re sorry to disappoint you. Instead, we saw the {2-2-1-1} Pattern play for the 101^st time. The winning numbers were 19, 27, 47, 67, 68 and MB 1.

As of Friday, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern has played in 30.8% of the 328 Mega Millions drawings. We recently saw this Pattern last weekend in the December 2^nd drawing. It’ll be a while yet before {2-2-1-1} challenges the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern for Most Commonly Played Pattern!

The [2-1-2-1] General Order made its 35^th appearance, its first since the September 2^nd, 2016 drawing. With that said, the [2-1-2-1] General Order has now played in 34.7% of the 101 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern, and in 10.7% of all drawings.

Next, the 0 2 0 1 2 1 Specific Order made its second appearance. Currently, this Specific Order has played in 5.71% of the 35 drawings where [2-1-2-1] was the General Order of the evening, 1.98% of the 101 drawings where the {2-2-1-1} Pattern played, and in approximately 0.61% of all Mega Millions drawings. To see when the 0 2 0 1 2 1 Specific Order debuted, we need to go back to the December 19^th, 2015 drawing.

Now, about that development.

Friday night saw something so hot, so spectacular, that it’s never been seen before. At least, with the 1-75 white-ball and MB 1 – 15 system.

Mega Millions saw its first similar spread!

For those of you who are new to Lottery Trend/Lottery Binge, a spread is the difference between adjacent numbers. A similar spread happens when the differences between numbers in separate drawings are the same, but the order is different. For instance, the winning numbers for the January 10^th, 2014 drawing were 8, 28, 36, 37, 57, and MB 8. The spread that appeared that evening was 20:08:01:20. The spread that appeared Friday night was 08:20:20:01. Note that with Mega Millions, the Mega Ball is not included when determining the spread. We can also see, upon closer inspection, that the spreads for January 10^th, 2014 and Friday were similar.
