Coolin’ On Down

It’s official. The September 20th Mega Millions marked the official end of summer with little fanfare. Although the {2-2-1-1} Pattern didn’t make an encore, the Specific Order of the evening made its first appearance in over a year. As the daytime continues to grow shorter up here, gather ‘round the computer screen and follow along with the recap of Tuesday’s drawing.

The winning numbers for the 305th drawing were 2, 22, 34, 62, 72, and MB 2.

Now having appeared 121 times, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played 39.7% of the time. Last we saw this Pattern was exactly one week prior on September 13th. In our Lotto Texas/Powerball post, we talked about how the {2-1-1-1-1} and {2-2-1-1} Patterns in Powerball seem to be locked into a neverending dance of alternating. Has Mega Millions caught this bug?

The [1-1-1-2-1] General Order played for the 28th time, and out of the 121 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, this General Order has played 23.1% of the time. When taking all 305 Mega Millions drawings into account, this becomes 9.18% of the time. The [1-1-1-2-1] General Order previously played on September 6th, exactly two weeks prior to Tuesday’s drawing.

We round up the night with the 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order, which made its 5th appearance. With 28 drawings where the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has appeared, the 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order has played 17.9% of the time. This becomes 4.13% when looking at the 121 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 1.64% when looking at all 305 drawings. The last time the 1 1 1 0 2 1 Specific Order played was back on May 5th, 2015.

As we look ahead to fall, will Mega Millions continue to keep it cool, or will it get fired up?

Saturday Night Milestones

The September 17th Lotto Texas and Powerball drawings were truly something. On the Lotto Texas front, the {4-2} Pattern made a three-peat appearance. Powerball had its 100th drawing, and by 100th, we mean “The 100th drawing using number balls 1 through 69 and Powerballs 1 through 26.” What better way to mark the 100th drawing than for someone to win the jackpot?

Lotto Texas

The {4-2} three-peat was provided by the winning numbers 24, 32, 33, 34, 48, and 51.

Now having played 152 times, and with 1378 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {4-2} Pattern has played 11.0% of the time. This Pattern previously played in Wednesday’s drawing  as well as the September 10th drawing.

The 0 4 2 Specific Order made its 30th appearance, and out of the 152 drawings where {4-2} was the winning Pattern, this Specific Order has played 19.7% of the time. When we look at all 1378 drawings, this becomes 2.18%. Unlike the {4-2} Pattern, the 0 4 2 Specific Order was last seen at the beginning of the year: January 16th, 2016.

The last Lotto Texas highlight of the evening was the Four-Number Combination of 24, 32, 33, and 48, which made its first appearance October 13th, 2012.

Powerball

Even though Powerball had its 100th drawing, and somebody won, it appears that the {2-2-1-1} and {2-1-1-1-1} Patterns are locked in a dance. The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played for the 37th time, thanks to numbers 9, 19, 51, 55, 62, and PB 14.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played 37% of the time, and remains the most commonly played Pattern. This Pattern was last seen in the September 10th drawing.

Like the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, the [1-1-2-1-1] Pattern was last seen in the September 10th drawing. Making its eighth appearance, it has appeared in 21.6% of the 37 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played. Taking all 100 drawings into account, this shrinks to 8% of the time.

September 10th appears to be a popular date, for the 1 1 0 2 1 1 Specific Order also made its last appearance on that night! Now having played three times, it has appeared in 37.5% of the 8 drawings where the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order has played. This becomes 8.11% of the 37 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, and 3% when taking all 100 drawings into account.

With the last summer (or winter) Lotto Texas and Powerball drawings coming up this Wednesday, will the {4-2} Pattern be daring enough to go for a four-peat? Will the {2-1-1-1-1} and the {2-2-1-1} Patterns be locked in their dance, alternating between who gets to play?

Lucky 13

Of course, Mega Millions decides to spice things up on the 13th! On the surface, Tuesday’s drawing pointed to yet another mellow evening. Sure, the most commonly played Pattern came back after a week of absence, but, things get more interesting when you look deeper. One point of interest is that the Specific Order of the evening hadn’t played in almost a year.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made its 120th appearance in the September 13, 2016 drawing thanks to 6, 15, 17, 39, 56, and MB 15.

Given that there have been 303 Mega Millions drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 39.6% of the time, and remains second-to-none.

The [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its 31st appearance, its first since the August 2, 2016 drawing. Out of the 120 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has played 25.8% of the time. Taking all 303 drawings into account, this becomes 10.2%.

The 2 1 1 1 0 1 Specific Order made its fourth (ever) appearance, having last played in the October 13, 2015 drawing. With 31 drawings where [2-1-1-1-1] is the General Order, the 2 1 1 1 0 1 Specific Order has played 12.9% of the time. This shrinks to 3.33% when looking at the 120 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the Pattern and 1.32% when looking at all 303 Mega Millions drawings.

The other spectacle of the evening was that not one, not two, but three Three-Number Combinations repeated! We had

  • 39, 56, MB 15, which first played August 19, 2014,
  • 17, 56, MB 15, which first played October 30, 2015, and
  • 6, 17, MB 15, which first played July 17, 2015.

As summer (or winter for you Southern Hemisphere readers out there) officially draws to a close, was Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing a warm-up or will it settle back into a chilled approach?

Streak Smashing Soiree

So far, September has been unkind to streaks. The highest ranking achieved has been “three-peat”. Neither the Lotto Texas nor Powerball Patterns that appeared Wednesday night played on Saturday. But, with the appearance of a Pattern that doesn’t get much play, and another Pattern that wants to retain its title, one would be tempted to ask “Who needs streaks?”

Lotto Texas

The September 10, 2016 Lotto Texas drawing graced us with 2, 12, 25, 27, 29, and 30, and giving us the 150th appearance of the {4-2} Pattern. We last saw this Pattern this past August on the 20th.

Now with 1376 drawings to date, the {4-2} Pattern has played 10.9% of the time. The stats show that this is not a commonly seen Pattern.

The 2 4 0 Specific Order made its 26th appearance, its first since August 3rd. Out of the 150 drawings where {4-2} was the winning Pattern, this Specific Order has played 17.3% of the time. When taking all 1376 drawings into account, the 2 4 0 Specific Order has played 1.89% of the time.

One highlight of the evening was the repeat appearance of the Four-Number Combination 2, 12, 25, and 27.

This Combination made its debut back on April 12, 2008. Eight years is quite a bit of time!

Powerball

Although Powerball didn’t have any Three-Number Combination callbacks, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern may as well have said “I don’t think so” to the {2-2-1-1} Pattern. Recall that {2-2-1-1} dethroned the {2-1-1-1-1} as Most Commonly Played Powerball Pattern and that it wasn’t that long ago that {2-1-1-1-1} reclaimed its title…and that last time {2-2-1-1} played. Never mind that {2-1-1-1-1} has played the Saturday prior (September 3rd)!

With its 36th appearance, the {2-1-1-1-1} can still lay claim to its title thanks to the following winning numbers: 3, 17, 49, 55, 68, and PB 8.

Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend-powerball.com.
Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend-powerball.com.

With 98 Powerball drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 36.7% of the time.

The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order made its 7th appearance, its first since August 27th, 2016. Out of the 36 drawings with the {2-1-1-1-1} Winning Pattern, the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order has played 19.4% of the time. When looking at all 98 Powerball drawings, this becomes 7.14%.

The 1 1 0 2 1 1 Specific Order made its second-ever appearance, and has played 28.6% of the time when looking at the 7 drawings where [1-1-2-1-1] was the General Order. This becomes 5.56% when looking at the 36 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played, and 2.04% of all Powerball drawings. As to when this Specific Order first played? March 19, 2016.

As we approach the middle of the month, will there still be uncommonly played Patterns? Will another power struggle ensue in Powerball?

Summer Callbacks

Even after achieving a milestone in last Friday’s drawing, Mega Millions continued to keep its composure Tuesday night. Homework’s being assigned in droves and the football displays clash with the fall/Halloween décor. And yet, in spite of the inevitable change of seasons, Mega Millions asserts that summer isn’t over yet. The September 6th, 2016 drawing had not just a Pattern, but a General Order and a Specific Order that played some time during the summer.

The winning numbers from Tuesday’s drawing were 25, 37, 58, 69, 75, and MB 8.

Now having made its 119th appearance, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern holds onto its position as the most commonly seen Mega Millions Pattern, making its first appearance since August 30th.  With 301 drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played 39.5% of the time.

The [1-1-1-2-1] General Order played for the 27th time, making its first appearance since August 16th. Out of the 119 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern played, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played 22.7% of the time. This becomes 8.97% of the time when we look at all 301 drawings to date.

The 0 1 1 1 2 1 Specific Order made its 7th appearance, and out of the 27 drawings where the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order played, this Specific Order has played 25.9% of the time. When looking at the 119 drawings in which the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, the 0 1 1 1 2 1 Specific Order has played 5.88% of the time. Finally, when looking at all 301 Mega Millions drawings to date, we get 2.33%. The 0 1 1 1 2 1 Specific Order actually played just a couple of days before our humble little lottery blog launched: May 27th, 2016. While not technically summer, it’s pretty darn close.

We now come to the Three-Number Combination of 25, 58, and 69, making its second appearance.

The first time this Combination played was back on February 3rd, 2015.

Will Mega Millions continue to keep a cool head as we head into Friday, or will it get its own frenzy going?

Same(ish) Script, New Cast

It’s a holiday weekend here at Lottery Trend headquarters, and it looks like Lotto Texas and Powerball decided to take it easy on September 3rd. We didn’t see any callbacks to a time pre-smartphone. The big draw of the night was that the winning Patterns from Wednesday’s drawing repeated for both lotteries. Not only that, the Specific Order for Lotto Texas had a repeat as well.

Lotto Texas

Saturday’s winning numbers were 11, 15, 19, 46, 47, and 49, making this the 717th appearance, and encore of the {3-2-1} Pattern.

Winning Texas Lotto Numbers from lotterytrend.com.
Winning Texas Lotto Numbers from lotterytrend.com.

With 1374 Lotto Texas drawings to date, the {3-2-1} Pattern has now played 52.2% of the time and sits comfortably as Lotto Texas’s most commonly played Pattern.

The Specific Order of the night was a 2 1 3 and with its 108th appearance, it has now played in 15.1% of the drawings in which the {3-2-1} Pattern has played. When looking at all 1374 drawings, this becomes 7.86% of the time.

Remember, both the {3-2-1} Pattern and the 2 1 3 Specific Order had just played in Wednesday’s drawing.

Powerball

The {2-1-1-1-1} retained its recently reclaimed title as Most Commonly Played Pattern with 7, 39, 50, 59, 67, and PB 25.

Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend-powerball.com.
Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend-powerball.com.

With its 35th appearance out of 96 Powerball drawings, the {2-1-1-1-1} has now played 36.5% of the time.

Unlike the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order did not appear in Wednesday’s drawing. Instead, it made its first appearance since July 20th. With its 16th appearance, and with 35 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, the [1-1-1-2-1] has played 45.7% of the time. This becomes 16.7% of the time when we look at all 96 drawings.

Last, but not least, we come to the debut of the 1 0 1 1 2 1 Specific Order. With its first-ever appearance, and with 16 drawings where the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played, the 1 0 1 1 2 1 Specific Order has played 6.25% of the time. Looking at the 35 drawings where the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, the 1 0 1 1 2 1 Specific Order has played 2.86% of the time. Finally, this becomes 1.04% of the time when taking all 96 Powerball drawings into account.

Will Lotto Texas and Powerball continue to take it easy, or will we see both of their Most Commonly Played Patterns go for a three-peat?

August’s Last Stand

Unlike Mega Millions, Lotto Texas and Powerball ended the month with a grand splash! Lotto Texas oozed nostalgia and the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern reclaimed its title as Powerball’s Most Commonly Played Pattern.

Lotto Texas

The August 31, 2016 winning numbers were 2, 14, 31, 38, 46, and 52, marking the 716th appearance of the {3-2-1} Pattern. No nail biters here; it will be a very long time before any other Pattern comes close to challenging it. And to think it was only exactly a week prior (August 24th) when this Pattern previously played!

Winning Texas Lotto numbers from lotterytrend.com.
Winning Texas Lotto numbers from lotterytrend.com.

Now that there have been 1373 drawings, the {3-2-1} Pattern has played 52.1% of the time.

The 2 1 3 Specific Order made its 107th appearance, its first since the August 6, 2016 drawing. Out of the 716 drawings in which the {3-2-1} has played, the 2 1 3 Specific Order has played 14.9% of the time. This becomes 7.79% when we take all 1373 drawings into account.

“Wait a minute!” you’re yelling at the screen. “You said Lotto Texas was brimming with nostalgia.”

Well, it is…because a Four-Number Combination that hasn’t been seen since October 11, 2000 played for the second time ever!

This is so last decade and at the beginning (or end, depending on who you ask) of a new century/millennium.The special numbers that made up the Combination were 2, 14, 38, and 46.

You can just hear the handshake.

Powerball

As we hinted at earlier, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern was dethroned and the {2-1-1-1-1} became the most commonly played Pattern again. That was all thanks to the numbers 5, 10, 24, 56, 61, and PB 12.

Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend.powerball.com
Winning Powerball numbers from lotterytrend-powerball.com

Now with 34 appearances and 95 Powerball drawings, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 35.8% of the time. A week can literally make a difference; this Pattern previously played in the August 24th drawing as well.

The [2-1-1-1-1] General Order made its sixth appearance, its first since May 18, 2016. Given that there have been 34 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has played 17.6% and 6.32% of the time when all 95 drawings are taken into account.

Powerball surprised us with the debut of a new Specific Order: 2 1 0 1 1 1. Even though it’s a first-timer, the 2 1 0 1 1 1 Specific Order has played 16.7% of the time when the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order has played. Looking at the 34 {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern drawings, this Specific Order has played 2.94% of the time. Finally, the 2 1 0 1 1 1 Specific Order played in 1.05% of all Powerball drawings.

Lotto Texas wasn’t the only one to have fun with repeating Combinations. In fact, Powerball had two Three-Number Combinations repeat. Both of them actually debuted just a short time ago; one of them actually made their debut this August! The Combinations were as follows:

  • 10, 61, PB 12 which first played July 9, 2016 and
  • 56, 61, PB 12 which first played on August 10, 2016

Now that September has officially rolled in, will the Powerball {2-1-1-1-1} hold on to its title, and will Lotto Texas see another retro callback?

Out Like a Lamb

And so we’ve finally come to the end of August. In contrast to what we saw earlier this month, the August 30th Mega Millions drawing was very calm. Although, we did see a Specific Order that hadn’t played in almost a year.

Tuesday’s winning numbers were 28, 32, 41, 51, 71, and MB 11, making it the 118th appearance of the {2-1-1-1-1} drawing.

Winning numbers from lotterytrend-megamillions.com
Winning numbers from lotterytrend-megamillions.com

Given that there have been 299 Mega Millions drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} has played 39.5% of the time. Last we saw this Pattern was during its sixth consecutive appearance on August 16th, 2016.

The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order made its 35th appearance, its first since August 12th. In the 118 drawings which the {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played 29.7% of the time. This becomes 11.7% of the time when we take all 299 drawings into account.

Finally, the 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order played for the third time. Out of the 35 drawings in which the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order has played, this Specific Order has played 8.57% of the time. This becomes 2.54% when we look at the 118 drawings in which {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern, and 1% when looking at all 299 drawings. Prior to Tuesday’s drawing, the 0 1 2 1 1 1 Specific Order last played September 18th, 2015.

What will September have in store? Will rarely played Patterns get their time in the sun? Will we see a Specific Order that’s never played before?

August Doldrums or The Calm Before the Storm?

Before we begin, we’d like to say “Thank you” to all the commentators out there! There appears to be an issue with our Comments Section. For some reason, a large chunk of comments were sent under one long email on August 23rd and it wound up in our Spam filter. We’re currently looking into this.

And so it’s come to this: the final weekend of August. One would think the August Doldrums are a thing now with no callbacks to the dial-up days in either Lotto Texas or Powerball on Saturday, or watching your favorite (U.S.) football team lose spectacularly during preseason. Nevertheless, there were some rumblings in Powerball. Perhaps {2-2-1-1}’s reign as Most Commonly Played Pattern may be short-lived.

Lotto Texas

On August 27th, 2016, Lotto Texas graced us with the following winning numbers: 5, 30, 37, 42, 45, and 49, marking the 152nd appearance of the {4-1-1} Pattern.

With 1372 drawings to date, the {4-1-1} Pattern has played 11.7% of the time, and was last seen June 18th.

The 1 1 4 Specific Order made its 50th appearance, its first since February 27th, 2016. When we look at the 152 drawings which {4-1-1} was the winning Pattern, this Specific Order has played 32.9% of the time and 3.64% if we look at all 1372 drawings.

Powerball

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made its 33rd appearance thanks to winning numbers 4, 32, 48, 49, 63, and PB 20.

Powerball_20160827

Last time, we watched the {2-2-1-1} Pattern claim the title of Most Commonly Played in Powerball. With the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern making its first appearance since July 20th (link), these Patterns are now tied yet again. With 94 drawings, they have both played 35.1% of the time.

Getting back to the {2-1-1-1-1}, the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order made its sixth appearance, its first since April 27th (link). This General Order has now played in 18.2% of the 33 drawings the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 6.38% of all Powerball drawings.

The 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order made its second appearance, its first since January 20th, 2016. Given the six (6) appearances of the [1-1-2-1-1] General order, the 1 0 1 2 1 1 Specific Order has played 33.3% of the time. This becomes 6.06% of the 33 drawings in which the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 2.13% of all Powerball drawings.

As we come to the end of the month (Psst! It’s Wednesday), will the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern reclaim its title?

{2-1-1-1-1} SMASH!

All sorts of records have been smashed this week, and now we can add this. Ladies and gentlemen, for as long as our fair blog has been up, we…we’ve never seen this in Mega Millions. In fact, it seemed unthinkable until Tuesday night.

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has now played six times in a row.

The {2-1-1-1-1} streak was provided by 2, 43, 52, 62, 63, and MB 6. With its 117th appearance and with 295 drawings to date, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played 39.7% of the time. For those of you who have just found this blog, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was last seen August 12, 2016.

In other (non-Earth-shattering) news, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order made its first appearance since July 19, 2016. With 26 appearances and 117 drawings in which the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played, the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has played 22.2% of the time. When looking at all 295 Mega Millions drawings to date, this becomes 8.81% of the time.

The Specific Order of the night was 1 0 1 1 2 1, now appearing for the tenth time. In the 26 drawings in which the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order has appeared, the 1 0 1 1 2 1 Specific Order has now played 38.5% of the time. This becomes 8.55% when looking at the 117 drawings in which the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern has played and 3.39% when taking all 295 Mega Millions drawings into account. Like the [1-1-1-2-1] General Order, the 1 0 1 1 2 1 Specific Order previously played on July 19, 2016.

To round out the night, we saw a Three-Number Combination in the shape of 52, 62, and MB 6. This Three-Number Combination first played on June 14, 2016.

What awaits us in this Friday’s Mega Millions drawing? Will the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern continue its unbelievable streak, or will it be toppled?
