Throwing Three-Peats to the Wind

After a busy first half of April, Mega Millions showed signs of slowing down in the second half. The April 24, 2020 drawing continued that trajectory. The {2-2-1-1} Pattern, having seen two consecutive appearances, looked poised to make a three-peat. Instead, another Pattern made the rounds, and the jackpot ballooned to $186 million.

All Roads Lead to Rising Jackpots

Both Lotto Texas and Powerball saw their jackpots rise to $12.75 million and $37 million, respectively. However, the path each lottery took Wednesday night was fraught with its own perils, er, surprises. One surprise was an Australia Play, the other a Pattern encore.

Lotto Texas

General Lottery Analysis

The April 22, 2020 Lotto Texas drawing had 9, 17, 19, 30, 44 and 50 as the winning numbers. This marked the 238th appearance for both the {2-2-2} Pattern and the 2 2 2 Specific Order. Around these parts, that’s called an Australia Play.

Of the 1753 Lotto Texas drawings, 13.6% of them have been Australia Plays; the last time we saw one was March 14, 2020.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

There was in fact, a double encore in Powerball! First was the {3-1-1-1} Pattern, with winning numbers 1, 33, 35, 40, 69, and PB 24. This Pattern has now played 92 times.

An encore from an unexpected place! Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com.

Given that there have now been 475 Powerball drawings, this Pattern has played 19.4% of the time.

The other encore was the [1-3-1-1] General Order. Now with 32 appearances, this General Order has played in 34.8% of the 92 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 475 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 6.74% of the time.

As April is nearing its end, we’ll need to keep an eye out for Pattern encores. Take the {3-1-1-1} Pattern in Powerball, for example. After its encore, is a three-peat in the cards Saturday night? Will we also see an Australia Play encore in Lotto Texas?

The Short, Sweet Pattern Repeat

Don’t rock the boat! Stay the course! Don’t change racehorses midway! In other words, don’t mess with the status quo. In the April 21, 2020 Mega Millions drawing, the “status quo” was the {2-2-1-1} Pattern. That and a lack of grand prize winners. The jackpot rose to $174 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 155th appearance with winning numbers 13, 15, 24, 67, 70 and MB 17.

There was, in fact, another encore Tuesday night: the [1-2-2-1] General Order! With its 55th appearance, this General Order has played in 35.5% of the 155 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Pent-Up Lottery Energy

For some people, being made to stay home has been an opportunity to catch up on books they’ve been meaning to read, shows and movies they’ve been meaning to watch, and not worry too much about appearance. But, even the most “homebodiest” of homebodies doesn’t want to stay at home for too long. The longer you’re homebound, the more pent-up energy and without a proper outlet, the results can be explosive.

Thankfully, Lotto Texas and Powerball found a release valve! The night of April 18, 2020 was a night of repeating Combinations doubles and a surge in the jackpots. Well, more like a steady growth. The prize rose to $12.25 million in Lotto Texas and $29 million in Powerball.

There are only a couple of weeks left until we get to May. Will either the {3-2-1} or {3-1-1-1} Patterns try to establish a Pattern streak in that time?

The Ol’ {2-2-1-1} Pattern Back n’ Forth

It’s the very nature of lotteries to have their Patterns take turns with one another. Otherwise, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak would never end! What happens when a Pattern plays, then disappears for a drawing, then shows up again? Other than missed opportunity for a Pattern three-peat, of course.

Mega Millions answered that question this past Friday night with its {2-2-1-1} Pattern. In addition to this Pattern’s back and forth action, there were no grand prize winners. As a result, the jackpot rose to $164 million.

A Not-so-Taxing Wednesday

April 15 is traditionally Tax Day in the U.S. All those who haven’t filed their taxes yet can breathe a sigh of relief, as this year’s Tax Day is July 15.

With one lottery embracing a payback and both lotteries forming an attachment to this past January, the night was anything but quiet! No grand prize winners meant rising jackpots. Lotto Texas climbed to $12 million and Powerball crossed over to $24 million. Can you believe the Lotto Texas jackpot is now worth half that of Powerball’s?

Mega Millions’ Nostalgia Pangs

Two months—that’s roughly sixty days. That may not sound like a long time, but that’s long enough for big changes to occur. Sometimes, the changes are so sudden that we want to ease into that brave new world or reminisce about the “good ol’ days”. Normally, said days are from a past long gone, but recent events have many of us pining for life as it was back in February.

The April 14, 2020 Mega Millions drawing was a retrospective of Februarys past. That trip down memory lane spawned a repeating Three-Number Combination and a jackpot that bumped up to $159 million.

Saturday Night Retreat

Stressful times call for stress relievers. Once upon a time, people went out on Saturday nights. Malls, arcades, movie theaters, and restaurants were filled with individuals of all ages and from all walks of life looking to get out of the house and forget about their troubles for a few hours. What with all these places closed, and restaurants open only for delivery or carryout, destressing involves staying home and getting creative.

Lotto Texas and Powerball followed suit April 11, 2020. After a wild Wednesday, the lotteries opted to stay home and chill. There was only enough energy for a {3-2-1} Pattern three-peat and a jackpot rise to $11.5 million in Lotto Texas. Meanwhile, Powerball got *this* close to a playback, though its jackpot did inch up to $22 million.

Will the {3-2-1} Pattern get a Pattern streak going and will Powerball continue to adjust to smaller jackpot rises?

Friday Night Substitution

When you hear “substitute” or “substitution”, what comes to mind? We’ve all had substitute teachers or had to make do with a different brand of peanut butter if the one we wanted was unavailable. A substitute isn’t inherently superior or inferior; it’s just something different.

If you played Mega Millions this past Friday (or not), then you should know that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak was terminated. In fact, you could say a repeating Four-Number Combination and the resulting madness was a substitute for whatever the Pattern five-peat would have brought. Regardless of your feelings towards repeating Four-Number Combinations in Mega Millions, it’s highly doubtful you’d turn your nose up at a jackpot that jumped to $145 million!

Will Tuesday night see a {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore or another repeating Four-Number Combination?

Twice as Strong, Half as High

Something odd happened the night of April 8, 2020. Thanks to an encore from the {3-2-1} Pattern and a little extra help from the similar spread, the Lotto Texas jackpot rose to $11 million. That’s more than half that of Powerball’s! No, that wasn’t a typo.

An intrepid player from New Jersey picked all six numbers and won the $193 million prize. Naturally, the jackpot reset itself. The floor of Powerball jackpots was once $40 million, but after this past Wednesday night, the new reset point became $20 million.
