The title of today’s post would suggest that someone won the Mega Millions jackpot. We can assure you that wasn’t what happened. This lottery entered October 2020 with a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern three-peat, a necessary stepping-stone for a Pattern streak. There were other plans for October 6, 2020, and the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was cast aside. As a result, the jackpot rose to $60 million.
General Lottery Analysis
The Pattern streak was blocked by the {3-1-1-1} Pattern. With winning numbers 15, 16, 18, 39, 59 and MB 17, this Pattern made its 114th appearance.
The [3-1-1-1] General Order, now with 44 appearances, has played in 38.6% of the 114 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 608 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 7.24% of the time. We last saw the [3-1-1-1] General Order in the September 1, 2020 drawing.
Now with eight appearances, the 031011 Specific Order has played in 18.2% of the 44 drawings where the General Order was [3-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 7.02% of the 114 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 1.32% of all 608 drawings. The 031011 Specific Order was last seen July 19, 2019.
Three-Number Combinations
Repeating Three-Number Combination 16, 39 and 59 debuted November 27, 2015.
Will the {3-1-1-1} Pattern be bold enough to make an encore Friday night?
‘Tis better to have been at the top and lost it, than to have never been at the top at all. At least, that’s the conclusion Lotto Texas came to after all that’s happened over the past 8.5 months. The road to $47 million will be an arduous one, though this past Saturday night was a step in the right direction. With no one matching the six winning numbers, the prize inched up to $5.25 million.
Powerball had reason to be excited. Lotto Texas was forced to reset, and the jackpot leapt from $43 million to $52 million.

Three-Number Combinations
There were two repeating Three-Number Combinations:
Mega Millions had reason to celebrate October 2, 2020:
It was Friday night
Lotto Texas was dethroned
Mega Millions became the one with the highest jackpot
To celebrate this “restoration”, there was the offering of a playback, and this one had plenty of goodies wrapped inside! One such goody was the very reason Mega Millions has the highest jackpot right now. With no one picking all six winning numbers, the prize jumped to $50 million.
General Lottery Analysis
Ask and ye shall receive! For all those hoping for a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern three-peat, your wish was granted with 9, 38, 47, 49, 68 and MB 25. This Pattern has now played 267 times.
It turns out that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern wasn’t the only one who came back. The [1-1-2-1-1] General Order decided to make its 81st appearance this past Friday night! This General Order has now played in 30.3% of the 267 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 13.3% of all 607 drawings.
Oh, we’re not done yet.
The 101211 Specific Order got a touch of the encore itch. Now with 19 appearances, this Specific Order has played in 22.2% of the 81 drawings where the General Order was [1-1-2-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 7.12% of the 267 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 3.13% of all 607 drawings.
The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-1-2-1-1] General Order, and 101211 Specific Order were last seen together in the September 29, 2020 drawing.
Four-Number Combination
Mega Millions was in such a happy state that a repeating Four-Number Combination was added to the mix! Combination 9, 38, 47 and 49 made its debut July 1, 2014.
Three-Number Combinations
Naturally, this repeating Four-Number Combination gave birth to four repeating Three-Number Combinations, all of which debuted in the same July 14th drawing:
9, 38, 47
9, 38, 49
38, 47, 49
9, 47, 49
Why not add one more? Three-Number Combination 47, 49 and 68 debuted June 29, 2018.
With Lotto Texas out of the picture for the foreseeable future, there’s still the matter of frenemy Powerball. That lottery is known to take large leaps with jackpot boosts and the jackpot over there may very well eclipse Mega Millions’. Will Mega Millions and Powerball be locked in a battle of who can get the largest jackpot, or will one get knocked out of the ring early?
It finally happened. After 8.5 months, Lotto Texas was brought down. Oh, don’t feel sorry for Lotto Texas; it had to happen sooner or later. Although both the {3-3} Pattern and the 330 Specific Order were a hit last time, they brought about the crash of September 30, 2020 and made a lone player from Seguin much richer. Mega Millions and Powerball hugged and high-fived each other, happy that the “uppity little lottery” was put back in its place. The prize was reset to $5 million.
Amidst the chaos, Powerball held strong. With the help of an Australia Play, its position in lottery high society was maintained. The jackpot increased to $41 million.
Lotto Texas
General Lottery Analysis
The {3-3} Pattern made its 143rd appearance with winning numbers 4, 11, 16, 19, 27 and 30.
There have now been 1799 Lotto Texas drawings, and this Pattern has played 7.95% of the time.
Now with 45 appearances, the 330 Specific Order has played in 31.5% of the 143 drawings where {3-3} was the winning Pattern. Once all 1799 drawings have been taken into consideration, this Specific Order has played 2.50% of the time.
Both the {3-3} Pattern and the 330 Specific Order were last seen September 26, 2020.
Similar Spread
What about a similar spread? That should’ve been enough to keep Lotto Texas in the good graces of lottery high society, right? No. No it wasn’t.
The spread for this past Wednesday night’s numbers was 07:05:03:08:03. This was similar to the spread from the November 1, 2000 drawing. That night, the winning numbers were 27, 30, 35, 38, 45 and 43, with the spread being 03:05:03:07:08. Different numbers played both nights but notice that the differences between numbers were the same, although in different orders.
Four-Number Combinations
A trio of repeating Four-Number Combinations were a part of the scene, one of which played twice before:
4, 11, 16, 27 (Debuted October 20, 2012 and previously played December 19, 2015)
Fine showings all around, but they just weren’t enough.
Powerball
General Lottery Analysis
With winning numbers 14, 18, 36, 49, 67 and PB 18, an Australia Play made its 28th appearance.
Given that there have been 521 drawings, the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-1-1-1-1-1] General Order, and the 111111 Specific Order have played 5.37% of the time. We last saw them in the May 9, 2020 drawing.
Three-Number Combinations
There was also room for two repeating Three-Number Combinations!
With Lotto Texas out of the way, Powerball can now focus on other things, like, “How long will it take to have a monster-sized jackpot?” It may a while yet but to Powerball, the natural order has been restored and all is right with the world.
As for Lotto Texas? Well, it had a taste of the high life, and it’s not going to let this setback get in the way! But we must get through Saturday’s drawing first. It isn’t likely that the {3-3} Pattern will make a three-peat, but it is 2020, after all. We’ll need to keep an eye on it!
September 26, 2020 featured strong showings from both Lotto Texas and Powerball. Having been on top for the past 1.5 weeks, Lotto Texas wasn’t ready to give that up! The players were thwarted once again, and the jackpot hit $47 million.
Meanwhile, Powerball also saw a jackpot boost. The prize jumped from $25 million to $34 million, closing the gap between the two lotteries.
Lotto Texas
General Lottery Analysis

Four-Number Combinations
Lotto Texas was so content that repeating Four-Number Combinations weren’t necessary.
Powerball
General Lottery Analysis
Powerball’s jackpot boost got a little help from a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak! With winning numbers 11, 21, 27, 36, 62 and PB 24, this Pattern played for the fourth time in a row. Saturday night also marked the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern’s 200th appearance.
There have now been 520 Powerball drawings, and this Pattern has played 38.5% of the time. Recall that the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was last seen September 23, 2020.
The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order, now with 50 appearances, has played in 25% of the 200 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 520 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 20% of the time. The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order was last seen August 29, 2020.
Now with 11 appearances, the 121011 Specific Order has played in 22% of the 50 drawings where the General Order was [1-2-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 5.5% of the 200 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 2.12% of all 520 drawings. We last saw the 121011 Specific Order in the March 7, 2020 drawing.
Three-Number Combinations
A trio of repeating Three-Number Combinations also came to Powerball’s aid:
Given the current rate things are going, it won’t be much longer before Powerball has the largest jackpot. Lotto Texas will either have to start seeing larger jackpot increases or will have to get reacquainted to not being top dog. Will Powerball’s dream come true soon?
Roughly 1.5 weeks ago, Mega Millions was dethroned. As you’d expect, there was a bruised ego but most importantly, the jackpot was reset. Over this time period, Mega Millions began the climb back to the top. Gradually, the jackpot grew. Come September 25, 2020, the jackpot took a leap! The six winning numbers weren’t matched, and the prize jumped from $24 million to $32 million. It was thanks to that boost that, for the time being, Mega Millions doesn’t have the smallest prize.
General Lottery Analysis
With winning numbers 20, 36, 37, 48, 67 and MB 16, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made its 265th appearance.
The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order, now with 62 appearances, has played in 23.4% of the 265 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 605 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 10.2% of the time.
Now with 17 appearances, the 012111 Specific Order has played in 27.4% of the 62 drawings where the General Order was [1-2-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 6.42% of the 265 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 2.81% of all 605 drawings.
Prior to Friday night, the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-2-1-1-1] General Order, and the 012111 Specific Order played September 18, 2020.
Three-Number Combinations
The playback wasn’t the only standout feature Friday night! A duo of repeating Three-Number Combinations made their way through:
The jackpot boost was a much-needed boost to Mega Millions’ self-esteem! The climb back to the top won’t be so arduous. Will the climb continue next week, or is another jackpot reset right around the corner?
It’s been exactly one week since the Powerball jackpot was won. Since that time, Powerball continues to pick up the pieces, and Lotto Texas remains on top. The prize in that lottery is now worth $45.5 million. The natural order hasn’t been restored in Powerball’s mind. No way that Lotto Texas stayed on top! What’s a “disgraced” lottery to do?
A {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern three-peat was part of Powerball’s arsenal, though that wasn’t enough to soothe the fevered desire to be back on top. Even with a volley of repeating Three-Number Combinations, the jackpot rose just a bit, from $22 million to $25 million. Patience, dear Powerball. Patience.
Lotto Texas
General Lottery Analysis
The gulf between the Lotto Texas and Powerball jackpots was as expansive as the Outback. With winning numbers 10, 11, 22, 32, 45 and 54, the {2-2-2} Pattern and the 222 Specific Order gave the jackpot a leap forward. An Australia Play has occurred 244 times.
There have now been 1797 Lotto Texas drawings, and an Australia Play has been featured in 13.6% of them. Prior to September 23, 2020, an Australia Play was last seen September 9, 2020.

Both the [1-1-2-1-1] General Order and the 110211 Specific Order were last seen in the August 19, 2020 drawing.
Three-Number Combinations
The members of the repeating Three-Number Combination trio were
Lotto Texas was in a world of its own. Powerball was forced to reset, and Lotto Texas was now on top. And, after what happened September 19, 2020, it extended its stay until at least the next drawing. The players failed once more to match all six numbers. Rather than go all out, a sliver of that old-time Lotto Texas respectability shone through. The jackpot rose to “just” $44 million.
Powerball began the task of rebuilding its clout. Things got off to a nice start, for players there failed to match all the numbers as well. In fact, $22 million isn’t a bad prize. Although, it was a reminder to Powerball that Lotto Texas had a jackpot now worth twice as much. A bitter pill to swallow for a lottery notorious for monster-sized jackpots, to be sure.
Lotto Texas
General Lottery Analysis

28, 31, 36, 46 (Debuted May 21, 2011)
3, 5, 28, 36 (Debuted July 17, 2010)
Powerball
General Lottery Analysis
Powerball also had a touch of the encore itch! The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern made its 198th appearance with winning numbers 11, 14, 23, 47, 57 and PB 14.
This Pattern has now played in 38.2% of the 518 Powerball drawings.

Both the [2-1-1-1-1] General Order and the 210111 Specific Order were last seen in the August 26, 2020 drawing.
Three-Number Combinations
A couple of repeating Three-Number Combinations got caught up in the shuffle:
Neither Mega Millions nor Powerball are strangers to being the ones on top, but for Lotto Texas, it’s a wondrous, yet terrifying experience. Staying on top can either be long-lasting, or short-lived. And, Lotto Texas hasn’t forgotten that when the time comes for its reset, the climb back to the top will be much harder and much longer. Will it be able to hold off the reset for at least another drawing?
So began another cycle of build->win->rebuild! That is:
Build – build up the jackpot
Win – at least one player picks the six winning numbers
Rebuild – starting over; Mega Millions (and Powerball) start at $20 million
After being dealt a blow to the jackpot (and ego), Mega Millions focused on building up again. Fortune favored Mega Millions, for no one picked the six winning numbers. Imagine the uproar, the scandal, of being knocked down twice in a row! A jackpot whose worth jumped to $22 million is as good a start as any.
General Lottery Analysis
The September 18, 2020 drawing saw the 264th appearance of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, with winning numbers 26, 29, 41, 52, 64 and MB 22.
The [1-2-1-1-1] General Order, now with 61 appearances, has played in 23.1% of the 264 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 603 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 10.1% of the time. Prior to Friday night, the [1-2-1-1-1] General Order played July 24, 2020.
Now with 16 appearances, the 012111 Specific Order has played in 26.2% of the 61 drawings where the General Order was [1-2-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 6.06% of the 264 drawings where {2-1-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 2.65% of all 603 drawings. The 012111 Specific Order was last seen June 26, 2020.
A special thanks to guest blogger Romulun Harris for filling in on such short notice this past weekend!
Nothing says “sophisticated” like a cheese platter served with wine! But, there’s a catch. Velveeta and Kraft singles are a no-no, and the finest wines come from far and wide. Of course, we’re partial to wines from the Texas Hill Country, wot wot.
Mega Millions, see, is a sophisticate. The trendsetter, not the follower. For a while, it had the largest jackpot of The Big Three. It was the guile (or “gall” in Mega Millions’ view) of a Wisconsinite that changed everything. With the prize having been won, the jackpot naturally reset itself to $20 million. And it was with that reset that Mega Millions looked on with scorn at that “uppity” Lotto Texas, hobnobbing with Powerball.
General Lottery Analysis
September 15, 2020 saw the 165th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern, with winning numbers 25, 28, 38, 59, 62 and MB 22.

Three-Number Combinations
A duo of repeating Three-Number Combinations dealt extra blows:
Mega Millions may have been brought down to size, but there are a couple of lottery drawings coming up soon. Will Mega Millions have to contend with having the smallest jackpot this coming Friday, or will its time at the “bottom” be short-lived?
