Kicking Off with {3-1-1-1}

The days are getting longer and even though the groundhog didn’t see his shadow, winter is not giving up so easily. Other things that don’t give up are the Kansas City Chiefs and Mega Millions Patterns like {3-1-1-1}. It may not have the command presence of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern but when it plays, one best pay attention.

This {3-1-1-1} Pattern was the one that thwarted the players’ efforts this past Tuesday night. The side effect was a jackpot that climbed to $187 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The winning numbers for the February 4, 2020 drawing were 32, 48, 50, 51, 64, and MB 10, making this the 101st appearance of the {3-1-1-1} Pattern.

Will someone claim the prize in Mega Millions Friday night, or will it be knocking on $200 million?

Windin’ ‘er Down

Mega Millions had the honor of signing off 2019 and it had the honor of bidding January farewell this past Friday night. Instead of a night filled with wild plays or even a Pattern encore, it was one of the quietest nights Mega Millions has had in a while. Maybe the pressure of leading into the kickoff of Super Bowl Weekend got to it?

Regardless of the lottery’s feelings on the matter, Friday night was proof that the quietest nights can lead to the biggest disappointments. At least, for all those seeking a quick escape hatch from the rat race. Naturally, the prize rose once again, stopping at $168 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The night of January 31, 2020 saw winning numbers 28, 31, 33, 57, 62, and MB 19. This marked the 148th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern.

We last saw the 0 1 2 0 2 1 Specific Order in the December 27, 2019 drawing.

Three-Number Combination(s)

The lack of repeating Three-Number Combinations was a key ingredient to a quiet night.

Mega Millions will be starting off February with a robust jackpot up for grabs. Will Tuesday’s drawing have those wild and crazy plays, or will it be another quiet night?

Playback?! Whoever Heard of a Playback?

When we prop up the hood of a lottery, we expect to find a Pattern, a Specific Order, and for Mega Millions and Powerball, a General Order. Sometimes we’ll find Pattern streaks or something wilder, like an Australia Play or maybe a playback. With January about to end, what better send off than one of those wild plays?

Well, folks, it happened again. Mega Millions once again flirted with a playback. This was enough to thwart players and the jackpot went unclaimed. It grew, naturally, to $155 million.

General Lottery Analysis

January 28th, 2020 saw the 235th appearance of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern with 17, 36, 47, 51, 62, and MB 21.

Will Friday night see a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore or maybe a true playback for Mega Millions?

Flirting with Playbacks

February is right around the corner and with it comes Valentine’s Day. Regardless of your feelings towards the holiday, it’s a time when lovers and friends send cards and candy. Others try to get their flirt on.

Speaking of flirting, Mega Millions teased the idea of a playback. It was close, but a playback wasn’t meant to be this past Friday night. What we did see was a jackpot that climbed to $141 million.

General Lottery Analysis

Will next week see an actual playback from Mega Millions?

Strange and Remarkable 23

On the surface, 23 doesn’t look like a remarkable number. There are 24 hours in a day, not 23. The answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is not 23 (it’s 42), and 23 is so, so…so odd!

Why then is today’s post about 23? That’s the number of times the {3-2-1} Pattern has played in Mega Millions. This Pattern may not play often in this lottery, but when it showed up this past Tuesday, it made an impact. The grand prize went unclaimed yet again and rose to $130 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The {3-2-1} Pattern of January 21, 2020 was thanks to winning numbers 16, 18, 29, 31, 37, and MB 8.

There have now been 534 Mega Millions drawings and this Pattern has played 4.31% of the time. We last saw the {3-2-1} Pattern October 22nd, 2019.

The [2-3-1] General Order, now with 11 appearances, has played in 47.8% of the 23 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 534 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 2.06% of the time. Prior to Tuesday night, the [2-3-1] General Order played December 21st, 2018.

Now with two appearances, the 0 2 3 0 0 1 Specific Order has played in 18.2% of the 11 drawings where the General Order was [2-3-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 8.70% of the 23 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.37% of all 534 drawings. Three-Number Combination(s)

An uncommon Pattern left a couple of repeating Three-Number Combinations in its wake:

It’s not likely that the {3-2-1} Pattern will make an encore in Mega Millions. Still, there’s the matter of the growing jackpot. Will Friday night’s results make the jackpot grow again?

The Cleanest Play

The cleanest play in the lottery world is the playback. This phenomenon occurs in Mega Millions when the Pattern, General Order, and Specific Order, share a date when they previously played together. There is yet another level of playback. In this playback is a special Pattern. When this Pattern plays in Mega Millions, there is but one General Order and one Specific Order that show up alongside it.

That special playback is the Australia Play, and it sent the prize to $116 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The Australia Play made its 17th appearance in the January 17, 2020 drawing. The winning numbers were  3, 25, 30, 54, 70, and MB 9.

Given that there have been 533 drawings, the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-1-1-1-1-1] General Order, and 1 1 1 1 1 1 Specific Order have played 3.19% of the time. Prior to Friday night, the Australia Play occurred in the September 17, 2019 drawing.

Will Tuesday’s drawing see a rare Australia Play encore or will another Pattern take center stage?

The Great Scaleback

If you partook in Mega Millions last Friday and read our analysis, you’d agree that it was a scorcher! Much like the unseasonable warmth, the onslaught of repeating Three-Number Combinations (half of them thanks to a repeating Four-Number Combination) was relentless. This past Tuesday told a different story: Mega Millions scaled back. An even-tempered play sent the jackpot up to $103 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The January 14, 2020 Mega Millions drawing marked a milestone for the {3-1-1-1} Pattern. With winning numbers 9, 11, 13, 31, 47, and MB 11, this Pattern made its 100th appearance!

The [3-1-1-1] General Order, now with 39 appearances, has played in 39% of the 100 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 532 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 7.33% of the time.

Now with two appearances, the 3 0 1 1 0 1 Specific Order has played in 5.13% of the 39 drawings where the General Order was [3-1-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 2% of the 100 drawings where {3-1-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.38% of all 532 drawings. The 3 0 1 1 0 1 Specific Order was first seen in the March 25, 2016 drawing.

Three-Number Combination(s)

There were only two repeating Three-Number Combinations Tuesday night:

A smaller serving of Combinations. Source: lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

What happened this past Tuesday was the first of many Mega Millions scalebacks to come this year. Even though the number of Combinations was reduced, the jackpot is still high! How much more will it soar?

Part of a Balanced Lottery Diet

One week ago, Mega Millions found itself in the grip of a lull. That Friday night was your “standard” drawing. No encores or other big plays to speak of, and no repeating Three-Number Combinations.

Oh, what a difference a week makes!

We’re not sure what got into Mega Millions this past Friday night, but it decided to indulge in a diet rich in repeating Three-Number Combinations. This was in addition to a {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore. With no one able to match all six numbers, the jackpot rose to $91 million.

General Lottery Analysis

Fresh from this past Tuesday, the {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 146th appearance! The winning numbers for January 10, 2020 were 17, 27, 49, 51, 66, and MB 2.

This Specific Order has also played in 2.05% of the 146 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.56% of all 531 drawings. We last saw the 0 2 0 2 1 1 Specific Order April 19, 2019.

Four-Number Combination

Here’s one source of the indulgence: a repeating Four-Number Combination in the form of 27, 49, 66, and MB 2!

The start of something grand. Source: lotterytrend-megamillions.com.

The Combination you see above made its debut in the May 29, 2015 drawing. If you recall, the last time we saw a repeating Four-Number Combination in Mega Millions was Christmas Eve 2019. How often do we get to witness two repeating Four-Number Combinations within the span of a few weeks?

Three-Number Combinations

Naturally, this repeating Four-Number Combination spawned four repeating Three-Number Combinations:

  • 27, 49, 66

These Combinations debuted in the May 29th drawing mentioned earlier.

Four repeating Three-Number Combinations would be a good place to stop, but Mega Millions had another idea. Why stop at just four when it could have four more?

Will Mega Million continue to include massive helpings of repeating Three-Number Combinations next week?

The Mega Millions Coverage Plan

It’s a new year, but some things never change. There’s always the need and the desire to earn big bucks. No worries. Mega Millions has you covered.

This past Tuesday was most likely your second or even first day back from the holidays. Already, you’re asking yourself, “Is it the weekend yet?!” No, no it’s not, but no worries. Mega Millions has you covered!

Based on the results of this past Tuesday’s drawing, Mega Millions only needed the weekend to rest up. There was a repeating Three-Number Combination, enough to shake off the lull. No one was able to match all six winning numbers; this sent the jackpot to $80 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The winning numbers for January 7th, 2020 were 25, 40, 41, 52, 56, and MB 21. This marked the 145th appearance of the {2-2-1-1} Pattern.

Mega Millions took to heart the idea of easing back into a routine. We’ll see if Friday night brings more repeating Three-Number Combinations or a rising jackpot. A {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore wouldn’t be out of the question, either!

Mega Millions in “Party Hard, Rest Hard”

Another holiday season has come and gone. A collective groan erupts far and wide as it’s time to get back into the work/school routine. Instead of groaning, Mega Millions yawned.

The Christmas-New Year’s timeframe was a busy one for this lottery. Christmas Eve saw a whopping seven repeating Three-Number Combinations! Nothing like that happened this past Friday. The jackpot rose to $69 million and Mega Millions cocooned itself in a blanket as it took a well-earned rest.

General Lottery Analysis

Three-Number Combination

Part of resting up means no repeating Three-Number Combinations.

Mega Millions is off to a quiet start to the year, but does that mean the lull will continue in the foreseeable future?
