They Goin’ Up!

Lotto Texas and Powerball live in different worlds, and Saturday night highlighted just how different they are. The former played an uncommon Pattern while the latter stuck with one of its most common. However, there are nights when these two appear to operate on similar wavelengths.

October 17, 2020 was one of those nights. Both lotteries saw their jackpots increase. Lotto Texas stepped up to $6.25 million and Powerball ascended to $91 million.

It’ll be That Time of Year ™ soon, and Powerball appears to be getting ready before everyone else! There’s a good chance that sometime in the coming week, the prize will be at least $100 million. Will it be thanks to a {2-2-1-1} Pattern streak, or will it be due to something else?

The Grand Combination Explosion

When lotteries get into lofty positions, they’re (usually) not willing to give them up easily. Lotto Texas has had a taste of the lottery high life. What with its jackpot closer to $40 million than it ever has been in a very long time, it’s has no plans to go down so easily! And even though Powerball is no stranger to being in such a comfortable spot, it too must put up the occasional fight to prove its worth.

When you come for lotteries, you best not miss.

Except, everyone missed September 5, 2020. Both lotteries had the insane idea of lobbing at least one repeating Four-Number Combination. Lotto Texas also threw in a similar spread for good measure. Sure, the country club hall is a mess, but Lotto Texas was pleased as punch upon reaching $39 million. Powerball was content with $75 million and thought there was no way that “uppity” Lotto Texas could catch up.

Similar Spread

Saturday night’s numbers had a spread of 05:07:01:03:15. March 18, 2017 had a spread similar to this. That night, the winning numbers were 12, 15, 16, 23, 38 and 43, and their spread was 03:01:07:15:05. Different numbers played both nights but notice that the differences between numbers were the same, although in different orders. A fine specimen of a similar spread, wouldn’t you say?

This Combination debuted in the July 11, 2018 drawing.

Three-Number Combinations

Of course, that repeating Four-Number Combination had four repeating Three-Number Combinations as part of its entourage:

  • 21, 27, 47
  • 21. 27, PB 7
  • 27, 47, PB 7
  • 21, 47, PB 7

The top three Combinations made their debut in the July 11th drawing mentioned earlier. Although the last Combination in the group played on that date (naturally), its debut was January 27, 2018.

But, wait! There’s one more Combination: 15, 22 and 27 debuted June 24, 2020.

Blue and red abound! Source: lotterytrend-powerball.com

As the days grow shorter, the jackpots grow larger. Lotto Texas isn’t going to go down without a fight, and Powerball is content with the gap between them. Of course, if Powerball isn’t careful, it may find itself looking at Lotto Texas from behind. On the other hand, fate may deal Lotto Texas a bad hand, leaving Powerball to gloat as the “uppity” little lottery from down South has to start all over again at $5 million. What awaits these lotteries in the week ahead?

Unshakeable Lotto Texas and Plucky Powerball

This year has been a year of discovery for Lotto Texas. Unlike Mega Millions and Powerball, this lottery is, comparatively speaking, the prim and proper one. Now and again, it indulges but pulls back when things get too hairy. Thing is, Lotto Texas hasn’t pulled back in a while. Since January, the jackpot has climbed from $5 million to over $30 million. August 15, 2020 was yet another winless night, and more money being added to the pot meant $33.25 million up for grabs in the next drawing.

August 15, 2020 was a night of opportunity for Powerball. After getting knocked off its feet earlier this week, it dusted off and hit the ground running. With the help of encores from both the Pattern and the General Order, the jackpot rose to $22 million.

Lotto Texas seems to have fully embraced this “new” self. Will this lottery continue to indulge itself, or will it begin to tone it down a notch?

The Twisted Jackpot Tale

For the longest time, Lotto Texas was the “respectable” lottery. While Mega Millions and Powerball flirted with monstrously large jackpots from time to time, Lotto Texas never dared to go that high.

Sometime over the past few months, it developed an attitude shift. We’re not sure when this change in personality occurred, but June 6, 2020 was another night that the Lotto Texas jackpot resisted a takedown. As a result, it climbed to $20.75 million.

Powerball’s reset point isn’t as high as it once was. Whether that caused a boost in Lotto Texas’s confidence remains to be seen. Regardless, a prize that bumped up to $22 million is plenty to start that (early) retirement nest egg!

Reduced-Strength Encore and a Combination Triple Offense

The weekend is a cherished time. It’s meant to be the two-day reprieve from the grinds of work and school. It’s a time to catch up, a time to hang out, and a time to rest.

Lotto Texas most certainly took the “rest” part to heart. There was indeed a {4-2} Pattern encore, but this appearance wasn’t nearly as explosive. An over-the-top play wasn’t needed to send the jackpot to $17.5 million.

Powerball kept it classy. However, underneath that class was a monster of a jackpot that underwent another growth spurt. The prize climbed to $296 million.

“Wild Wednesday” with Lotto Texas and Powerball

Lull? What lull?

Lotto Texas, known for its chastity and civility (compared to Mega Millions and Powerball anyway) was anything but chaste or civil! When it came to wild and unruly, this lottery reigned supreme. This uncharacteristic behavior sent the jackpot to an even $17 million.

Powerball didn’t act foolish, and perhaps it didn’t need to. The massive jackpot, which rose to $277 million, helped this lottery preserve the appearance of dignity.

The Persuasive Power of Combinations

A different trend has taken hold in the lottery world. Mega Millions has been following it for a while, and Lotto Texas and Powerball came into the fold this past Saturday night. We’ve come to expect Pattern streaks and other wild plays to send the jackpots higher. As we approach a new decade (depending on who you ask), the lotteries appear to be testing out a new strategy: embracing repeating Four- and Three-Number Combinations!

Why not? Bombarding the players with repeating Combinations is a subtle approach to boosting the jackpots’ worth. In fact, unboxing these Combinations was all that was needed to send Lotto Texas’s prize to $13 million and Powerball’s to $160 million.

With 2.5 weeks left before Christmas, there’s plenty of time for Pattern streaks to get established and for jackpots to enter crazy-high territory (like Mega Millions). Will Powerball’s {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern have a streak for the ages, or will another Pattern block its chances of a three-peat Wednesday night? Will Lotto Texas’s {4-2} Pattern do something “uncharacteristic” and go for the encore?

Roasted Playback & Encore Gravy

Thanksgiving Eve is undoubtedly one of the busiest days of the year. Be it braving the roads (or skies) or making that last-minute trip to the store, there’s hardly a dull moment!

Lotto Texas and Powerball were making their own Thanksgiving preparations. They spent the evening roasting up a Pattern playback, with a Pattern encore for dressing. The side dishes were repeating Four-and Three-Number Combinations, and for dessert, rising jackpots. Lotto Texas offered up a jackpot that rose to $9.75 million while Powerball’s was a prize that climbed to $110 million.

Lotto Texas and Powerball Fall Back

After gorging yourself on Halloween candy and jumping onto a holiday sale, what better way to sleep it off than with setting the clock back one hour? If you’re reading this blog from either the U.S. or Canada, you most likely set your clock back one hour this weekend, making the already early sunsets come even earlier.

Lotto Texas and Powerball also “fell back” November 2, 2019. Neither lottery had any big plays in their arsenals. Perhaps this was the opening one Powerball player needed as he (or she) became the sole winner of $150 million! Naturally, the jackpot reset to $40 million. Lotto Texas chugged along, building itself up to $7.75 million.
