Play That Back Again

Repetition has many uses. Watching a movie for the 101st time, for example, lets us see what we may have missed the first 100 times (though it’s really due to familiarity and/or nostalgia). For lotteries, repetition can be from either a Pattern repeat, a Pattern streak, or a playback. The result may not be predictable, but there’s a sense of familiarity when a Pattern plays consecutively, or even when everything played together on the same date.

Although neither Lotto Texas nor Powerball saw Pattern encores, there was a playback. August 18, 2021 was a boon for both jackpots, though. The jackpot for Lotto Texas continued to hang on, stopping at $11.75 million, and Powerball settled at $290 million.

Growing Jackpots Are Happy Jackpots

August 14, 2021 marked the end of the {3-2-1} Pattern streak in Lotto Texas. History has shown us that Pattern streaks aren’t necessary in boosting jackpots, and Saturday night proved history right.

An Australia Play was responsible for keeping the Lotto Texas jackpot above $10 million. So much so, in fact, that the prize grew to $11.25 million. Meanwhile, Powerball’s jackpot grew to a fat and happy $274 million.

Streak to Go Upward

Even though summer vacation is (almost) over, it’s still summer. Fall doesn’t arrive until September 22nd, and it’s still hot outside. Maybe not hot enough to cook eggs on the sidewalk, but chances are you’re still seeking shade or a cold drink when you’re outside. You’re still swearing under your breath (or out loud; we won’t judge) when the weatherman says it’s going to get even hotter.

Rising jackpots are nicer than 100-degree (Fahrenheit), 90% humidity days, anyway. Even better when one of those jackpots is now worth a quarter of a billion dollars!

August 11, 2021 was a good night for Lotto Texas and Powerball. Strong showings from both lotteries sent their respective jackpots to $10.75 million and $250 million.

Mega Millions’ Tuesday Night Bummer

Summer is just about over. The kids are heading back to school and your commute to work has gotten longer. Wouldn’t it be nice to forgo the commute or even better, not have to work at all? The freedom, the escapism that summer offers, all that could be available full-time by winning a lottery. The bigger the prize, the better, right?!

Mega Millions got the better of everyone Tuesday night. Anyone who was hoping for an Australia Play encore was sure to be disappointed. Of course, another shot at the jackpot meant a larger prize to be won! In response to no one winning the grand prize, said prize grew to $225 million.

Will Mega Millions’ jackpot grow again Friday night, or will someone get a shot at early retirement?

A Different Game Plan

Things looked promising for Mega Millions. After three repeat appearances from the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern, this lottery was poised and ready for a Pattern streak. An Olympic streak of this nature isn’t unprecedented.

The night of August 3, 2021 was the end. Mega Millions couldn’t grab a hold of the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern and with it, the hopes for a Pattern streak came falling down. This of course led to another Pattern getting a shot at creating a streak of its own. As Mega Millions grabbed hold of another Pattern, it also tried for a playback and saw its jackpot rise to $191 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The {2-2-1-1} Pattern made its 189th appearance with 1, 9, 17, 27, 34 and MB 24.

This Pattern has now played in 27.2% of the 694 Mega Millions drawings.

The [2-2-1-1] General Order, now with 65 appearances, has played in 34.4% of the 189 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 694 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 9.37% of the time.

Both the {2-2-1-1} Pattern and the [2-2-1-1] General Order played July 16, 2021.

With that said, a playback wasn’t favored. The 2 2 1 0 0 1 Specific Order made its first appearance since January 12, 2021. Now with eight appearances, this Specific Order has played in 12.3% of the 65 drawings where the General Order was [2-2-1-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 4.23% of the 189 drawings where {2-2-1-1} was the winning Pattern and in 1.15% of all 694 drawings.

Three-Number Combinations

Dreams of a Pattern streak and a playback were deferred, but there was enough room for a trio of repeating Three-Number Combinations:

Now with the {2-2-1-1} Pattern taking up the reins, will it go on to make an encore Friday night?

Caught Up in the Whirlwind

The unofficial motto of the United States Postal Service (USPS) boils down to this: Nothing can keep a good postal worker down. Well, almost nothing. Postal workers are human after all and like any human, they fall prey to illness, injury, and let’s not forget human error. Deliveries can and do get delayed if Mother Nature doesn’t play nice.

Lotteries are immune to the things that plague humans. Powerball laughs in the face of sick days, and along with its “siblings” Lotto Texas and Mega Millions, keeps on ticking in the face of floods and power outages. Lotteries, see, are often the ones stirring up the trouble, what with Pattern streaks, playbacks, and so forth. While these were absent July 21, 2021, there was a Pattern encore, an important steppingstone in the creation of said Pattern streaks. Both Lotto Texas and Powerball saw their respective jackpots climb to $8.25 million and $174 million.

Mega Millions’ Matter of Repetition

Some things bear repeating. It’s how we as humans tend to remember everything from our times tables to annoying advertisements.

Repetition in the lottery world, in its most basic form, is a Pattern encore. Sometimes that’s as far as it goes, but the potential for a Pattern streak is always there. Now, it’s premature to say that the {2-2-1-1} Pattern encore of July 16, 2021 will lead up to a Pattern streak, but it did help propel the Mega Millions jackpot to $128 million.

The Mid-Week, Mid-Month Playback Shuffle

July 14th was a national holiday – in France. It was on that date in 1789 that revolutionaries stormed a medieval armory/political prison known as the Bastille. A symbol of the tyrannical monarchy, the storming triggered the start of the French Revolution. As to be expected, Bastille Day, or Fête Nationale (“National Celebration”)/Le 14 Juillet (“The 14th of July”), is a grand occasion. Military parades, concerts, and of course, fireworks are in order.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, the celebrations have since ended and most everyone has settled into a more “normal” pattern. Lotto Texas and Powerball appeared to follow suit. However, a closer look at the results from July 14, 2021 indicated otherwise. For starters, Lotto Texas saw a playback, and Powerball came close. Throw in the respective jackpots rising to $7.75 million and $150 million, Wednesday night was far from “normal”. In fact, those lotteries were downright festive!

Mega Millions’ Sense and Civility

Last time in Mega Millions, the {3-1-1-1} Pattern was on the verge of a Pattern streak. The momentum of the Fourth of July holiday certainly helped! To put it another way, once the holiday (week) ended, Mega Millions threw out the cans and dressed properly. Most everyone has gone back to work, and “Back to School!” sales started to rear their heads.

If anything carried over from the previous week, it was the rising jackpot. With no one selecting the six winning numbers, the prize jumped to $117 million.

General Lottery Analysis
