Some Things are Not Worth Repeating

It finally happened. After 8.5 months, Lotto Texas was brought down. Oh, don’t feel sorry for Lotto Texas; it had to happen sooner or later. Although both the {3-3} Pattern and the 3 3 0 Specific Order were a hit last time, they brought about the crash of September 30, 2020 and made a lone player from Seguin much richer. Mega Millions and Powerball hugged and high-fived each other, happy that the “uppity little lottery” was put back in its place. The prize was reset to $5 million.

Amidst the chaos, Powerball held strong. With the help of an Australia Play, its position in lottery high society was maintained. The jackpot increased to $41 million.

There have now been 1799 Lotto Texas drawings, and this Pattern has played 7.95% of the time.

Now with 45 appearances, the 3 3 0 Specific Order has played in 31.5% of the 143 drawings where {3-3} was the winning Pattern. Once all 1799 drawings have been taken into consideration, this Specific Order has played 2.50% of the time.

Both the {3-3} Pattern and the 3 3 0 Specific Order were last seen September 26, 2020.

Similar Spread

What about a similar spread? That should’ve been enough to keep Lotto Texas in the good graces of lottery high society, right? No. No it wasn’t.

The spread for this past Wednesday night’s numbers was 07:05:03:08:03. This was similar to the spread from the November 1, 2000 drawing. That night, the winning numbers were 27, 30, 35, 38, 45 and 43, with the spread being 03:05:03:07:08. Different numbers played both nights but notice that the differences between numbers were the same, although in different orders.

Four-Number Combinations

A trio of repeating Four-Number Combinations were a part of the scene, one of which played twice before:

  • 4, 11, 19, 27 (Debuted March 15, 2017)
  • 4, 16, 19, 30 (Debuted March 29, 2014)
  • 4, 11, 16, 27 (Debuted October 20, 2012 and previously played December 19, 2015)

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 14, 18, 36, 49, 67 and PB 18, an Australia Play made its 28th appearance.

Given that there have been 521 drawings, the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-1-1-1-1-1] General Order, and the 1 1 1 1 1 1 Specific Order have played 5.37% of the time. We last saw them in the May 9, 2020 drawing.

Three-Number Combinations

There was also room for two repeating Three-Number Combinations!

With Lotto Texas out of the way, Powerball can now focus on other things, like, “How long will it take to have a monster-sized jackpot?” It may a while yet but to Powerball, the natural order has been restored and all is right with the world.

As for Lotto Texas? Well, it had a taste of the high life, and it’s not going to let this setback get in the way! But we must get through Saturday’s drawing first. It isn’t likely that the {3-3} Pattern will make a three-peat, but it is 2020, after all. We’ll need to keep an eye on it!

The Pattern Streak Double Strikedown

Lotto Texas and Powerball have acted like a playground clique these days. They play together, so it’s expected that they’ll copy each other, or even be in sync with each other now and again. Lately, both lotteries have been in the grip of streaks with their most common Patterns.

On May 9, 2020, the Pattern streaks came to an end. Both the {3-2-1} Pattern and the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streaks were struck down with Australia Plays. That is, the Pattern, General Order (applicable to Powerball only) and the Specific Order were the same. This interesting turn of events kept the jackpots climbing. Lotto Texas rose to $15.25 million and Powerball rose to $77 million.

Powerball

General Lottery Analysis

Powerball’s Australia Play was thanks to winning numbers 12, 18, 42, 48, 65 and PB 19. This marked the 27th appearance of the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-1-1-1-1-1] General Order and the 1 1 1 1 1 1 Specific Order.

The Australia Play has occurred in 5.625% of the 480 Powerball drawings, and was last seen October 9, 2019.

Three-Number Combination(s)

Three-Number Combinations were not part of the agenda Saturday night.

The Pattern streaks may be over, but the prizes continue their march ever upward. Will the jackpots continue to climb, or will at least one of them be struck down next week?

Encore and Hops

Today’s title means one of two things. Either Lottery Binge has decided to venture into the world of craft beer brewing (and should quit before even getting started) or there was an Australia Play and a Pattern encore. We’re going to go with the latter.

This past Wednesday night was also good for fans of repeating Four-Number and Three-Number Combinations. As busy as the night was, there were no grand prize winners in either lottery. Lotto Texas’s jackpot climbed to $5.5 million while Powerball waltzed into $373 million.

Lotto Texas

Will a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern three-peat in Powerball send its jackpot to $400 million or close to it? Could Lotto Texas see an Australia Play encore?

The Cleanest Play

The cleanest play in the lottery world is the playback. This phenomenon occurs in Mega Millions when the Pattern, General Order, and Specific Order, share a date when they previously played together. There is yet another level of playback. In this playback is a special Pattern. When this Pattern plays in Mega Millions, there is but one General Order and one Specific Order that show up alongside it.

That special playback is the Australia Play, and it sent the prize to $116 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The Australia Play made its 17th appearance in the January 17, 2020 drawing. The winning numbers were  3, 25, 30, 54, 70, and MB 9.

Will Tuesday’s drawing see a rare Australia Play encore or will another Pattern take center stage?

An Encore for a Hopping Wednesday

Things were toasty, just toasty for Lotto Texas and Powerball. As the colder air pushed through, these lotteries got a fire going by throwing in an encore and an Australia Play! Frustrated players made kindling out of their tickets, however. The jackpots rose to $6 million and $90 million, respectively.

(To all the math nuts out there, the Lotto Texas jackpot is now 1/15th that of Powerball’s. Is this the “natural order” of things, or is Lotto Texas just biding its time, waiting for Powerball to “slip up”?)

Will a Pattern streak form for Lotto Texas on Saturday, and could Powerball’s Australia Play come back like a boomerang?

Hopping Beyond $200 Million

Mega Millions crossed the $200 million threshold, and it took nearly two months to do it! Thanks to a little help from an Australia Play, Mega Millions got a hop in its step and leaped to $211 million.

August-Flavored Australia Play

August is almost over and it has been anything but boring for Mega Millions. As the schools opened their doors once again, things continued to get wild in the lottery world. There was a shakeup for Mega Millions in the August 23, 2019 drawing and the prize leapt up to $103 million.

A Midsummer Night’s Cooldown

July is just about over, and the start of school is right around the corner. Meanwhile, the brutal summer sun beats down on everything. One can only hope for a shower to cool everything off, for a little while at least.

If your name happened to be “Lotto Texas” or “Powerball”, then you cooled off by avoiding earth-shattering plays Saturday night. In fact, the biggest play of July 27, 2019 was an Australia Play. Taking the quiet-ish path helped the jackpots climb to $14 million and $88 million, respectively.

Will Lotto Texas and Powerball stay in cooldown mode as they finish out the month?

Another Bloomin’ Australia Play!

Just because something is unlikely doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.

Mega Millions did something unexpected. By “unexpected”, we mean “Fall in love with the Australia Play”. That’s right: July 12, 2019 saw the return of the ultimate playback! With the encore came yet another jackpot rise; it hopped up to $137 million.

Mega Millions and the Thirteen Tales of {1-1-1-1-1-1}

There are few things that seem to thrive in scorching heat. Red kangaroos are one. Camels are another. These creatures make themselves at home in arid regions like the Outback.

On July 9, 2019, Mega Millions broke the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern streak and embraced the sweltering heat of an Australia Play! Granted, it’s winter in the actual Land Down Under, but lotteries, paying no heed to mortal things like climate, like to shake things up from time to time. With that maneuver came the hopping away of the grand prize; it leapt up to $121 million.

General Lottery Analysis

With winning numbers 12, 26, 40, 48, 64, and MB 1, the {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-1-1-1-1-1] General Order, and the 1 1 1 1 1 1 Specific Order made their 13th appearance together.

Of the 478 Mega Millions drawings, the Australia Play has happened 2.73% of the time. Prior to Tuesday night, an Australia Play was spotted in the April 23, 2019 drawing.

Three-Number Combination(s)

While bounding away, the Australia Play didn’t leave any repeating Three-Number Combinations behind.

Given how rare Australia Plays are, it’s not likely that we’ll see an encore Friday. Still, it’s early yet in the month. There’s plenty of time for other Patterns to get into the streak game. Maybe the {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern will try to create another streak, or perhaps another Pattern will carry that torch?
