Mega Millions’ Climbing Instinct

Animals, and that includes humans, have a little something called “instinct”. What separates humans from the other animals is that we can choose how to respond to our instincts (for the most part). And what of lotteries? Their instinct is to climb back up once they’re inevitably knocked down. The height to which they climb varies, but climb they do.

Mega Millions was no exception July 28, 2020. The penultimate drawing of the month was the beginning of yet another climb cycle. With no one selecting the six winning numbers, the jackpot rose to $22 million.

General Lottery Analysis

A cosmic shift came in the form of playing the {3-2-1} Pattern. With winning numbers 17, 20, 27, 31, 34 and MB 19, this Pattern played for the 29th time.

There have now been 588 Mega Millions drawings, and this Pattern has now appeared in 4.93% of them. Prior to Tuesday night, the {3-2-1} Pattern was seen June 16, 2020.

The [3-2-1] General Order, now with 16 appearances, has played in 55.2% of the 29 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern. Once all 588 drawings have been taken into consideration, this General Order has played 2.72% of the time. We last saw the [3-2-1] General Order in the June 5, 2020 drawing.

Now with two appearances, the 0 3 2 0 0 1 Specific Order has played in 12.5% of the 16 drawings where the General Order was [3-2-1]. This Specific Order has also played in 6.90% of the 29 drawings where {3-2-1} was the winning Pattern and in 0.34% of all 588 drawings. The 0 3 2 0 0 1 Specific Order first appeared September 19, 2014. This was reconfigured from that night’s Specific Order:  0 4 1 0 0 1.

The {3-2-1} Pattern isn’t commonly seen in Mega Millions. Still, with the last drawing of the month happening this Friday, going big wouldn’t be out of the question. What better way to end July than with a {3-2-1} Pattern encore? We’ll have to wait and see!
