The Graceful and the Shameless

For three days a week, Lotto Texas and Powerball join forces to provide entertainment and a chance at early retirement. Other than that, these lotteries couldn’t be more different. The former lottery tends to take a more graceful approach when it comes to boosting its jackpot. Meanwhile, the latter tends to have no shame, going all out on wild plays and embracing enormous jackpots. Of course, Lotto Texas’s prizes aren’t to be looked down upon, either!

The gracefulness of Lotto Texas and the shamelessness of Powerball were on full display February 5, 2022. Even with a Pattern encore, Lotto Texas’s jackpot climbed to $8.75 million with little fanfare. Meanwhile, Powerball’s jackpot climbed to $147 million in such a way that such an encore wasn’t necessary to go all out.

Mega Millions: All Hopped Up

February means, “Spring is just around the corner. You just have to go through more winter first!” The cold keeps coming, and the hot drink consumption keeps climbing. One way to keep warm is to get your body moving. Running is one way, dancing is another, but there’s one you probably don’t think about much. If you do, then you probably have young kids, or you’re thinking about rabbits or kangaroos.

Yes, we’re talking about hopping, and Mega Millions did just that Friday night! Instead of going with a {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern encore, this lottery hitched its star to an Australia Play. This had the intended effect of pushing the jackpot to $31 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The February 4, 2022 Australia Play was made possible by 7, 16, 34, 44, 61 and MB 24. The {1-1-1-1-1-1} Pattern, [1-1-1-1-1-1] General Order, and 1 1 1 1 1 1 Specific Order have now played 23 times.

The Lottery Groundhog Predicts…

Who would ever think this little guy here has the power to predict the arrival of spring?

Source: Twitter Groundhog Club page

At least, that’s what legend says. Should a groundhog see his shadow on February 2nd, that means six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, then spring is right around the corner. Calendar aside, Phil saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter.

Meanwhile, the lottery groundhog predicted at least six more weeks of lotteries. With February 2, 2022 falling on a Wednesday, that meant the Groundhog Day honors went to Lotto Texas and Powerball. These lotteries were in the business of boosting their jackpots and to do that, they ditched their respective Australia Plays. When all was said and done, the jackpots rose to $8.5 million and $137 million, respectively.

Mega Millions and the February Climb

Mega Millions’ January run had a fitting end. After watching the jackpot grow for several months, it was brought down to size this past Friday night. It stands to reason that starting February with a slow, steady climb in the jackpot totals is also fitting. On that cold February night, the jackpot began its climb upward and rested at $22 million.

General Lottery Analysis

The {2-1-1-1-1} Pattern was spotted February 1, 2022. With winning numbers 11, 24, 38, 62, 66 and MB 1, this Pattern has now played 318 times.

This double Australia Play had the jackpots for both Lotto Texas and Powerball leaping to greater heights. The Lotto Texas jackpot jumped to $8 million, and Powerball’s bounded to $113 million.

With the jackpot reset, Mega Millions will be starting February with a clean slate. The question is, how clean? Will the jackpot begin to grow again Tuesday night, or will someone put a hold on that?

Shades of Christmas…in January

The days are getting longer, it’s the dead of winter, and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Wait, what?! Christmas was last month! True, but it’s colder than it was last month, and there’s always that one person who leaves up Christmas decorations year-round. Let’s not forget that the lottery world doesn’t adhere to our sense of time. Holidays, or shades of them, can strike at any time.

Lotto Texas saw shades of Christmas January 26, 2022, and saw its jackpot rise to $7.75 million. Powerball didn’t see any shades of Christmas (that was last week), but that had no effect on the jackpot. After the dust settled, the Powerball jackpot rose to $104 million.

One word best describes the Mega Millions jackpot so far in 2022: unwavering. Since October, all efforts to bring it down have only made it grow even more. Three months have passed and there has yet to be a winner. Was Tuesday night the night someone could walk off with riches beyond their wildest dreams?

Well, no. The Mega Millions jackpot remained standing January 25, 2022. Once again, the jackpot had another growth spurt, stopping at $421 million.
