Stepping Over the September Line

Hard to believe that this wild year is two-thirds over, isn’t it? With the start of September comes the end of the summer in two rounds. The first round is Labor Day weekend, and although not as big as the Fourth of July or even Memorial Day, few would pass up one last day at the beach or a three-day weekend. For Mega Millions, this year’s Labor Day weekend means holding on to the feistiness of the summer spirit.

September 1, 2023 meant sticking with a “common” Pattern. However, the results were far from blasé. For starters, the jackpot grew to $101 million.

The results were also the opposite. As Powerball soared to $420 million, Lotto Texas was forced to reset to $5 million.

The Lotto Texas reset is where we begin.

A Different Kind of Shower

August is known for being hot, almost ridiculously so, and the month when many students return to school. This month is also known for another phenomenon: meteor showers. If you look at the right part of the sky, on the right night at the right time, you can see them streak across the sky. Given that so many of us contend with light pollution, we’ll have to deal with another type of shower, the shower of repeating Combinations. Saturday night was prime viewing!

The night of August 26, 2023 was a night for both repeating Combinations and rising jackpots. Lotto Texas grew graciously to $ 6 million. Powerball, powered by a near playback, grew to $363 million.

A (Near) Playback Simmering in the Heat

We are truly living in interesting times. Only three years into the 2020s, and we’ve had to contend with a pandemic, inflation, and wars. This summer is, without a doubt, the hottest summer on record, and there are fears that this may be one of the coolest summers for the rest of our lives.

Meanwhile, the lottery world chugs along, blissfully unaware of the chaos plaguing the human one. Two jackpots worth over one billion dollars were claimed, and their respective lotteries are determined to soar to those heights again! Mega Millions, for example, can show dogged determination in the face of being forced to suddenly reset. Fortunately, that prospect is in the rear-view mirror!

The prospect of a jackpot reset was crushed Friday night, as the jackpot grew to $67 million.

Saturdays and Power Plays

Lottery Patterns have power levels that vary with each drawing. A jackpot that took months to grow can be brought down in a single night. Sometimes, the same Pattern that forces a jackpot reset can bring the jackpot up ever so slightly, only to knock it back down again. Recently, both Lotto Texas and Powerball know all about how a Pattern doesn’t aways act alone.
